I admire Tammy & her husband's spirit in running this size operation. What's needed is one person to act as farm manager and treat it like a business... which it is. There is no order anywhere. It's unkempt and unsafe. There's no dependable scheduling or communication system. Lesson time slots are not honored, which becomes a cycle where no one respects anyones' time. My granddaughter enjoyed a few lessons but we cannot continue here. We wish Tammy and her family the best of luck. read more

Really disappointed in this place. Would absolutely not return. The booking process is a mess and they practice back business. I like the instructor Tammy but the owner needs to step down for the process to be revised. Lost an entire lesson that they are not refunding or honoring because they dont have a voicemail set up and dont check their voicemail. read more

I'd give zero stars if I could. not sure how the lessons or people are who work here because nobody answers the phone, responds to email, and there's no voicemail option, I purchased 3 lessons for my daughter for Christmas via Groupon and not only can I not schedule these lessons that expire next week due to nobody answering or responding, I can't cancel the Groupon because they are still claiming to honor Groupons. That's fantastic, but only if you can actually SCHEDULE THE LESSONS!! I'm about to be out $100+ with zero lessons and I've been trying. What a nightmare! Carol is unbelievably unprofessional. After trying to schedule a Groupon lesson for three weeks, she finally answered the phone only to tell me to call back. I called back 3 more times and finally got through to someone. She was immediately rude and unprofessional. In the end she refused to honor my groupon and told me to go elsewhere because I had purchased two instead of 1 or 3 lessons. When I told her I would pay the difference, she still turned me away. Wow. Just wow. I chose to come here to surprise my little brother for his birthday, making an attempt to try new things and I left feeling like I ruined his birthday. I purchased my tickets through Groupon and it was almost instantly the worst place I've ever gone to. Carol was extremely rude, yelling at me and my little brother the entire time, speaking to us as if we were stupid- knowing that it was our first time seeing a horse up close, let alone riding one. We never even made it to the outside. I don't know what I expected for $25 and hour each, but it was not this. I left the place and made it clear I was never coming back. If are not capable of teaching first timers or Atleast be a decent human, then I don't understand why a "business" would do it. Not to mention I had to call 5 times because every time she said she would call me back, she never did. never again. I won't let this experience break my spirit when it comes to trying new things. If I could give this place zero stars I would. My boyfriend called to book an appointment for me and his 5 year old daughter, we are both nurses who work opposite shifts so we have to take time off for family trips. The woman gave us no other info except that we needed an adult and child together. Showed up in sneakers and shorts not knowing we needed boots and pants. The lady was SO rude about how we were inappropriately dressed. We literally had no clue because she didn't tell us. We apologized and asked if we could go buy another outfit and come back. She said her appointment after us canceled and we could. We went to the store bought new shoes and pants. Came back in time for the lesson and she was no longer there. There was another man in the barn and we tried to talk to him to tell him we had an appointment and he blatantly kept ignoring us although we were 5 feet away from him. After about 10 minutes of this disrespectfulness we left. Not only did we waste money on this groupon but wasted our time driving back and forth and outfits that we now couldn't return because we had walked around a barn in them. BEYOND UPSET. read more

I don't understand where the negative reviews are coming from. I had a great experience. Carol was a wonderful teacher. Like others I bought a Groupon for three beginners lessons. Yes they can be a little difficult to get a hold of because they're still very old school... Only a landline phone. Luckily I'm old enough to remember a time before mobile phones so I had no problem calling at night until I spoke with Carol. When I got to the farm everyone was friendly and the horse I rode, Soner was wonderful. I would like to continue my lessons in the spring. Brought the little one here with a Groupon ( her turn). It was so cheap how could I not? Don't waste your money like I did. Walked in for her lesson and walked right out after I looked around. This is the dirtiest barn I've ever been in in all my years of riding! Unfixed sick looking cats everywhere. Filthy dogs. Trash all over. Some woman screaming at a girl on a horse. The horse used in the lesson was extremely skinny and so were the others I saw in the dirty, tiny, cramped stalls they were tied in. I want to report them to MSPCA it was that bad! I took my 6 year daughter there with a groupon she had received for her birthday. The lady was rude from the second we got there. She yelled at my daughter the entire time. I ended up taking my daughter off the horse and we left early. I could not get out of there fast enough. There is no way this place should be giving riding lessons to children. Purchased through Groupon for my 4 year old. The instructor was 30 minutes late & left us standing outside even though I had called twice to let her know we were there. Instructor seemed annoyed with us being there & had a harsh tone teaching the lesson. Will not be returning. read more

This place is disgusting, All you can smell is urine. The indoor ring is dark and dangerous. When we arrived no one even acknowledged we were there. The owner was very rude and wouldn't accept my printed Groupon. My 7 yr. old Grand daughter was in tears. We had a 4 pm lesson that didn't start until after 5. After an hour of trying to get Carol to take our Groupon we were all freezing. Carol spent at least 30 minutes of the 1 hour the lesson having my Grand daughter groom the horse, which hadn't seen a brush in a very long time, but never really gave her any direction as to how to groom. Then it was another 10 minutes to tack the horse. The 20 minutes left for my Grand daughter to ride was spent with Carol barking out commands to keep the horse out on the circle. Carol has no business teaching any one let alone a child. I know grooming and tacking are part of learning how to ride, but you would have needed a crew to groom these horses so they could be tacked. I should have reported her to the MSPCA but at the time I was more concerned with my Grand daughter. I must say though, Groupon was very quick to refund my money but they still offer Groupon's for this horrible place. read more

I brought my 4 year old son on an amazingly priced Groupon for a 1hour lesson. This stable is well worth the trip. Carol was extremely tender with my child, who had never been on a horse before. She showed him general horse husbandry and maintenance before riding. He was on the horse for a solid 45 min and loved every minute in the barn. These animals are neglected to say the very least. I wish I hadn't ever gone here. Smells so bad of cats, and the dogs left outside and the starved looking horses in stalls that they can't turn around in. Horrible conditions. She is a hoarder of animals and needs help. read more

I understand that this barn may not be the best. I have been riding here for about 5 years, I am a experienced rider, and have been riding for about 10 years now, and traveled from barn to barn. Hawkswood Farm is by far my favorite of them all. Carole, the owner is about 60 years old, but very capable. She is very independent and firm, but very loving. She has a son, who she has adopted. He has very severe autism. But, I have never seen someone more motivated, kind, and capable than him. He has always been there to help me. Even though many people say it is the worst experience they have had in riding, they don't see the barn the way I do. Sure, it may be dirty, but after you get to know the people, the horses, it makes up for all the dust. All of the horses there are very trustworthy. One time, I even left one of the horses Blaze in the middle of the ring to get my water bottle, and he stood right there! When Carole gives me a lesson, it is supposed to go on for an hour, but I end up being there for 3. Carole has a way of getting her point across by yelling, but that is just the way she is. She only wants that student to do the best they can. This barn truly, truly deserves 5 stars. All of the other people who have rated this have only been there one time, but I have been here for over 5 years. I hope you decide to go here. You wont regret it! read more

Horrible experience! I bought a groupon for my 8 year old daughter who wanted to try horseback riding lessons. She was so excited for the lessons and now completely turned away by horseback riding because of the teacher, the owner Carol. Carol has no teaching skills or patients for kids. I told her from the beginning that this is her first time on a horse and that she knows nothing about it. Carol was so rude to my kid the whole entire time , kept speaking to my kid like she has been doing this for years. Never explained anything and even yelled and made my kid cry so I had to step in and we just left in the middle of the lesson and I bought 3 , I couldn't believe that this is the way they operate. My daughter was so dassapointed by the experience , now she doesn't even want to try horseback riding lessons from another farm. read more

On the phone with the owner - went to check her book and never came back on the phone. When we got there they were less than friendly. I bought my lesson ( 3 lesson $75) through groupon. I booked my lesson and the lady was so rude on the phone I booked my lesson anyway considering Ive already paid for it. When we arrive there were no direction or signs as to were to go . My 12 year old gets on the horse and shes riding the horse in circles for an hour while the instructor is shouting and screaming at her . " Sit up straight ! " , " steer the horse ! " , " omg ! Are you kidding me ? " , " hurry up ! " , " I guess we're going to be here ALL day ! ". After her awful lesson she had my daughter walk the horse for an hour to dry off the horse and had her groom him as well which was fine because it stated on her website however screaming and shouting at her for 2 hours about everything shes doing wrong isnt going to teach her anything . My 12 yr old was almost in tears as the instructor rolls her eyes. Its one thing if it was Constructive criticism but it seem like the instructor was annoyed we was there . My daughter became acquainted with Hawkswood farm as a little girl. She began taking lessons from them around the age of 9. We can't say enough about the quality of training, both for riding instruction and horsemanship. The owners/managers are the most knowledgeable, understanding and kind instructors we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. They were patient with our daughter and brought her from beginner through D-2 in the U. S. Pony Club. The only reason we didn't continue is because we moved from Massachusetts. We missed having their generosity and considerate instruction tremendously. Anyone fortunate enough to have lessons and/training at this facility can consider themselves in the lucky few read more
