Our stay at 425 was a special time of our trip which we valued as equal to any of the attractions of KC. It was to converse and get to know Stephan and Carl, the owners. Here are the details: - This is a fine location that is close to attractions of KC: WWI Museum, Truman Library and Steamboat Arabia exhibit were our favorites. - Taking Lyft to dinner is quick and easy. (We enjoyed Q29 BBQ.) - The details I appreciated: coddled eggs served in beautiful coddlers, quality cutlery being placed perfectly (knife side in!), tasteful placement of antiques that give the room warmth and character. - Clean! I mused the bathroom floor was clean enough to eat off of... but I did not. - Attentive service! I brought back a six pack of ale and put into the cooler. At that time, there were only wine glasses standing by, but in the morning, Weizen glasses appeared in the collection. - I can't say enough of the quality! The food was real! Thick slices of real ham, fresh fruit; and even the capers were high end. There is a lot to see and do in KC. Ten of us recently rented out the whole Inn for a Junior High School reunion. Carl and Stephan worked hard to make sure everything was just right for us. My family and I entered and weren't greeted, despite there only being one other table seated. We ended up walking across the dining room ourselves before eventually being acknowledged. Not the strongest start. Once inside, the atmosphere had its ups and downs. The space itself is beautiful, but some details--like visible weeds and black tablecloths--took away from the overall polish. That said, things started to turn around once we got settled. I had the chance to meet the chef, who was incredibly personable and clearly passionate about his craft. We kicked things off with appetizers, and this is where the kitchen really began to shine. The lobster rangoons and tempura shrimp were both excellent--crispy, flavorful, and well-executed. For entrées, my daughter and sister-in-law both ordered the chef's burger and really enjoyed it. My niece had the steak frites and absolutely loved it. My wife ordered the lemon brick chicken with gnocchi and olive tapenade. After tasting it, I felt the gnocchi could have benefited from a quick sauté in clarified butter, finished with a squeeze of lemon and fresh herbs to bring out the depth the dish promised. I went with the Wagyu burger. The cook on it was spot-on, but the execution fell short. It came topped with three large slabs of bacon hanging well over the sides, making it difficult to eat without taking it apart. After adjusting it myself, I noticed it was under-seasoned--something as simple as a finishing salt would have elevated the richness of the Wagyu significantly. Overall, Ophelia's has a lot of potential. The food shows promise, the chef clearly knows his craft, and the space is visually appealing. With a few adjustments in both service and execution, this could easily become a top-tier spot. I'll be back--and I'd still recommend giving it a try. 4 out of 5 forks.

The room was welcoming with the door sign- Don and Anne plus the Mr & Mrs sign on the bed with chocolate truffles. There were 4 of us with 8 very different glasses. This alone impressed me. 3. The place was decorated with Antiques and pictures, flowers and baskets and all sorts of knick knacks. She said the B&B was decorated in the same style. 4. The wines were all really good. I don't think there was any one I really didn't like. I ended up buying 3 bottles and with a purchase of 3 you get a free wine tote bag that seperates the wines for you. 5. Prices were great. Around $10 per bottle. The finally thing that I loved about this place is that they let you come out and help them pick the grapes and provide a lunch for you . You can sign up and they will let you know when the harvest will take place and you can go experience what it is like to harvest grapes for wine. Just splendid. We will be back.

The day of the wedding we were able to all get ready together, have breakfast, and take some photos in the house. Breakfast was delicious and included gluten free options. There was also a fridge available for guests to use which was helpful for keeping our mimosa ingredients nice and cold. The house itself is a beautiful older home that's been so nicely updated and decorated. The house has so much character! I'd highly recommend Halcyon to anyone stopping in Lawrence. The house is located near Mass Street, and there's plenty of street parking available.
