The rooms have plenty of character, and the valets work really hard here. They bring your car up super fast. The staff at the restaurant is super friendly, and they're good with kids too. It is important to note that the bar area comes to life on weekend nights (you have to walk by it to get to your room), but kids need to see what adults are like after the sun goes down at some point in their lives. But there is an art display on the ground floor of the hotel, so if your kids cannot resist touching something like that, this might not be the place for you. My boyfriend was one of the groomsmen, so his weekend was already packed. We checked into the hotel on Friday so we could help the bride and groom if needed. When we got to our room, I noticed the door didn't close all the way. I'm usually pretty cautious about hotels and Airbnbs, so I asked the front desk to fix it right away. My boyfriend had to leave for the rehearsal shortly after dropping off our luggage. A maintenance worker came quickly, but after 45 minutes, he removed the metal latch plate on the doorframe so the door would shut. I told him that didn't seem right and completely defeated the purpose of the lock, but he didn't speak English and was using Google Translate. He said it was a temporary fix and that the front desk would assist us later. The door did close, but it felt like anyone could easily break in. Since we had a busy schedule, we left for the rehearsal dinner around 6. After dinner, we returned and asked the front desk whether the door would be properly fixed that night or if we could switch rooms. The front desk agent said they had multiple weddings that weekend, so all rooms were booked and nothing was available. She also said, "Our hotel is very safe, nothing happens." That's not something you want to hear as a guest. If I'm paying for a room, I expect to feel safe, not wonder if I'll be the first to experience a problem, especially since I had multiple expensive camera gear with me. We insisted on having the door fixed before bed, so they sent an "engineer" upstairs. When we explained the issue, he told my boyfriend that the metal piece on the doorframe was just for "aesthetics." At that point, my boyfriend was pissed. He grabbed the room key and a plastic spoon, propped the door open in front of the engineer, and demonstrated the issue. The engineer ended up calling two more maintenance workers and told us to leave for our event while they worked on it. We had to go downstairs for a late-night meet-and-greet, so they stayed to fix the door... again. When we came back around 11:30 PM, someone was still working on it. They reinstalled the metal plate and told me to slam the door hard for it to close. We had to do it multiple times, at midnight, while our neighbors were sleeping. He said it was the best they could do since no other rooms were available. We were exhausted and just went to bed. Saturday morning, the day of the wedding, my boyfriend left at 8 AM for suit fitting and to get ready with the groom. He asked me to check with the front desk, and they said we could switch rooms, but not until around 3 PM (normal check-in time). I reminded them that the wedding would already be happening then, and they apologized for the inconvenience. They sent yet another maintenance worker around 9 AM, this time with a drill, loudly working on the door and frame. I couldn't stay in the room with that noise (video), so I ended up spending time in the groom's suite. It was frustrating to pay for a hotel and barely have any time to relax in the room. There were constantly maintenance workers coming in and out, and I never felt safe being there alone. They finally moved us to a new room at 1 PM, right in the middle of the bridal party photos around the hotel. I couldn't carry all our luggage myself, so my boyfriend had to help me while wearing his groomsman suit. After everything, the hotel never apologized for the inconvenience or offered any kind of compensation. Overall, I'm extremely disappointed with their service. If this had been my wedding weekend, I would not have been this nice..

We enjoyed talking with her and saying hello to Sebastian, the friendly house dog. Her husband was also very helpful and set up the basement theater so we could enjoy a movie on the projector with surround sound! We stayed in Paschal's Suite which was nothing short of amazing! The bed was comfortable, decor was warm and inviting, and the large jacuzzi tub was very relaxing and spacious. Breakfast in the morning was homemade french toast and we enjoyed it on the sunny indoor porch complete with koi pond. We wished we could have stayed longer than one night but definitely have a new favorite in terms of local places to stay. For the price and hospitality I would recommend staying here even if you live nearby like we did and just want to get away. If you're in the area visiting Lawrence or Kansas City this isn't far from either cities and is worth the drive. Everything surrounding this experience is online - including check in and check out. Guests receive emails and text messages regarding their reservation and access information for the hotel and their guest room. There are no "on site" personnel (at least none that I saw) but that in no way takes away from the experience. The shared areas are beautifully appointed with small treats (including a Nespresso coffee maker, small bites and we also noticed a bottle of wine from our return back after the concert). There are three common areas that I noticed, the outdoor patio that is "upstairs", and two sitting areas inside the main warehouse. Additional for guests to access in the warehouse space are an ice machine and an armoire with additional toiletries. Everything was meticulously decorated and very VIBEY. We booked room 1, the king suite. It was very spacious and the bed/linens were very comfortable. We received two bottles of water and an artisanal box of two chocolates for free in the room. Now, we are uncertain of maybe some dynamic pricing because of the concert (the city was pretty sparse on accommodations likely because of the concert) but the room was $380 for one night. Again, the space was large, comfortable and very vibey but that is for sure a very luxury per night price. So just be aware of that. The toiletries were high end and there was an optional area of snacks and beverages at cost in the room. The only slight downfalls of this room were the TV being Roku so we had to log in to various apps in order to just have some background news on in the morning. The room also let in a lot of ambient noise from the shared space as well as light from the outside/street. The communication from the remote staff was very thorough and prompt. Despite not being "onsite" all my questions and requests were attended to immediately. I was able to get an early check in and when I was confused about how to access my room Ryan was super helpful and very quick to support me. Overall, this is a gorgeous and incredibly comfortable spot in KC. It was very conveniently located for the concert and I'd highly recommend it.

With any spa service purchase, you also have access to The Sanctuary - their quiet waiting/relaxation room complete with hot tea, snacks, coconut water, coloring books with pencil sets , encouraging short reads, cozy blankets and more. The lobby is gorgeous and has that early 20th century arcade feel, when each nook felt like it held its own mysteries. The rest of the property is badly in need of a renovation. The pool is too small for the throngs of people using it. My hotel room was dirty and nasty. Tears on the furniture, stains on the carpet, linens and bedding that smelled. Actually shortened my stay as a result. Same with most of the other public spaces. They just haven't invested enough in upkeep over the years. Everything else was overpriced and underwhelming: the restaurant, room service, the spa, even the town itself. There's so much potential to build out a lovely walkable village around the hotel, but like with most such places in Missouri, the opportunity is squandered. It's another impoverished small town that time has forgotten. Bottom line, it has lasted this long because of reputation and because there's not really anything else like it in the area. But that doesn't make it good. If you're in the area, stop by and take a picture and get a coffee at the lobby coffee bar. Then be on your way.
