Hidden gem of a restaurant in Noe Valley!! My parents have been coming here since their childhood and as an SF Bay Area native who's tried many pizzerias, I can hands down say Haystack's remains at the top of my list. Absolutely delicious pizza, soft doughy crust, flavorful sauce, and pasta are equally delicious. The Penne pollo e pesto is a must-try! Cozy ambiance and very friendly service. March Madness is here and everyone got their basketball team brackets are filled out and the weather in San Francisco is heating up this week. There is no better place to cool down and heal from after the St. Patrick's Day hangover with beer and pizza. There is a pizza institution in SF which has been offering hearty and cheesy dishes for decades. This pizzeria is a Noe Valley institution which outlived most pizza places throughout San Francisco. There is no Michelin star cook creating a trendy pizza. This place just offers the classic San Francisco pizza pies and it's called Haystack. If you haven't tried Haystack then you don't know about San Francisco pizza. This place having been offering hearty thick crust pizza pies to Noe Valley resident along with some tasty pasta dishes for over a half a century and it's located next to the Noe Valley Town Square. Inside the have pizzas named after Old McDonald ( no Big Arch or happy meal with crocs available), Luigi the Italian( some say this pizza is to die for), and their San Francisco classic The Haystack ( Not the city of Hayward which just turned 150 years). I got their mushroom pizza and it was tasty. It was a bit cheesy with a cheese pull and the amount of sauce was just right. The crust was a bit doughy but overall a good pizza place in Noe Valley. Go to a Winter stroll in San Francisco over 80 "degrees" some will enjoy and carpe momentum also known as "seize " the moment as others waiting for the "breeze" some grab a cold beer and grab something to eat in SF with a lot of "cheese " Although it's the Year of the Horse when it comes to pizza they don't horse around like a horse "race track" this place is located in San Francisco and not Hayward but it's called "Haystack" and its a "fact" it's a San Francisco classic pizzeria for over half a century history which goes "way back" read more

Friendly staff, however, the pizza has majorly declined in flavor and appearance. Our family has lived in the neighborhood since the 60s and our family has supported Haystack throughout the years. Unfortunately, our last pizza order would be the final. I don't mind paying for the increase in price if I knew I was going to receive a phenomenal pizza, however, that was definitely not the case this last time. One of our orders was a vegetarian pizza, and the appearance alone was a disappointment as it was mostly covered in olives! I never check the pizza when I left the establishment, so I didn't realize this until I arrived home. Other pizza was a pepperoni pizza and there were barely any pepperoni. read more

Haystack pizza has always been the neighborhood go-to for a great salad and pizza. I get why the prices went up but when you order your traditional pizza for 2 and it's barely the length of your iPhone, it's not quite worth the price hike anymore. The family and I went to Haystacks -- a place I've been visiting for over 40 years. The pizza is fantastic, and every entrée is always delicious. You can never go wrong there. We were there recently and had Ryan as our waiter. He was courteous, professional, and took great care of us. We left with happy tummies. In the back/event room of Haystack's, I hosted a birthday party for my daughter with a total of 12 teen girls. It was fantastic, fun and memorable! I highly recommend Haystack's Pizza especially for an event. Service - Throughout the event, Ryan and Tina went out of their way to accommodate us. It really made the party very special. They are just really kind and friendly people. Atmosphere - Haystacks has a genuine and comfy feel to it. It is not trying to be hip, cool or fancy. Sometimes just being in a space with character (and not just white walls and soft colored wood) plus a down to earth feel, feels nice. The back room feels like your in a New York Little Italy restaurant with one of those pretty murals on the wall. We pushed tables together so that all the girls could face one another in a "circle" arrangement. It really worked out well. I also brought some of my own decorations that upleveled it. Pizza - We ordered 3 regular cheese Haystack pizza's (14 slices each) with some bread and a salad (for adults). The pizza sauce was yummy. Only 4 pieces of pizza were left! Everyone enjoyed it. We recently celebrated my son's birthday at Haystack Pizza and I can't say enough good things about Tina and her team. We had a large party and reached out on short notice, and they were so attentive and accommodating from the moment we arrived. Tina set us up in a nice private room, made sure our orders came out quickly, and checked in often to be sure everyone had what they needed. The service felt genuinely caring, and our guests were really impressed. And the pizza, absolutely delicious. Everyone at the table kept talking about how good it was! Not even ONE star! Have been coming here for over 40 years! We came tonight for a quiet dìnner. We were not told that there would be a large party with many LOUD and boisterous young and UNSUPERVISED children, running up and down the restaurant, yelling and none of the parents did anything to stop them. Only ONE waitress who was stressed and overwhelmed. When I complained to the waitress (which took a long time to get her attention), she said "sorry" and no more. I think it's been 20 years since the last time i was here so i thought i would come and get a pizza with my cousin before he took me home. well i was disappointed in the service the old man that served me was rude as fuck rushing me to order a pizza and he was very grump. Then when the pizza came they changed the sauce because it was too sweet it was horrible i love all the toppings but i only ate two pieces and i gave one to my cousin and he thought the samething and it was too sweet. I used to come here as an teenager because i knew the family and i went to school with the Son. But i think they changed not sure if it's by the same family different generation? But they need to get a different cook because that pizza sauce if it's the same for the spaghetti it's horrible and i definitely will never come back I'd rather go to Domino's and get a $8 Pizza instead of spending 20 bucks. LOL The restaurant did an upgrade so it was really nice and they have a lot of different beers and wine. Lost me as a customer. I use to love this place....not sure what the deal is now'. The wings and fried I ordered were inedible. Old overcooked pieces of meat. Not even wings just pieces of broken bones. The garlic fried has zero garlic, soaked in oil. Just wasted my $. Very disappointing complete rip off. Hadn't been inside Haystack restaurant for quite some time but it did not disappoint. Started with appetizers (bruschetta and a plate of calamari). The calamari was so good and tasted so fresh, first time I've ordered calamari that it didn't taste like it had been refried numberous times. Ordered Fettuccine Alfredo (I know fairly simple dish) but it was yummy and the herbs used really enhanced the flavor. My companion had Cordon Blue (surprised me) but again another delicious dish as my friend did share a bite. I have not stopped talking about how good our meals were. It was unbelievably slow, they failed to make the right pizzas for some (& not just forgetting one topping, but an entirely different pizza type!) and then tried to overcharge! I had an amazing meal at the haystack. We had a custom pizza with thin crust, salami, bacon and light cheese, which was delicious. My wife loved the home made sauce it had. I had the veal scaloppine, and it was tender, well cooked with a tasty sauce with mushrooms. We had a pair of red wine glasses it paired well with our meal. Listen - haystack is an institution. They've been around since before the dinosaurs, a noe valley staple. I'll be blunt, the pizza is very underwhelming. I suggest you come here if you want a nice cozy place to sit, you and your friend order two personal pizzas, or a medium, whatever, drink some coke, talk. I love the interior it feels like a family restaurant (and it is!) Cannot reccomend the sandwiches, or really anything else on the menu, and I've tried a lot. Haystack pizza is an institution and Noe Valley staple! We came here on a Monday night for a third grade end of season soccer celebration and it hit all the marks. The pizza, pasta and salads were delicious. The staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. The location was perfect with a post meal playground right next door. We definitely came in hot with 40+ people, but they handled it. Ordered an eggplant parmesan sandwich just because we could. Delivered and, while the amount of actual eggplant was prodigious (which was good, but unusual) the top and bottom were absolutely burned! Hidden Gem. I had the ravioli with meat sauce and the chef accommodated my husband's request for shrimp with garlic, butter, and extra capers on linguine. Outstanding! Great service. Versatile menu. Excellent lunch specials. They make their own dough and cut their own fries. Great home cooking! Loved that they had a back room where we were able to seat 12 people. I went in with my daughter for her 11th birthday. We have always come here and always left satisfied, but not this time. My daughter ordered pasta with red sauce, and my husband and I ordered a pizza to share. We also got garlic bread. The pizza came out as good as always, and the garlic bread did too. About an hour and 30 minutes later, we got the pasta. IT HAD ALFREDO SAUCE. We told the waiter, and she said he's a new cook. The pasta tasted horrible. We gave it to our dog once we got home. NEVER AGAIN! Haystack has been around forever. I've been eating here for decades and I am saddened to write this review because I was very disappointed. I ordered a pizza for delivery and was told it would arrive in an hour. After 90 l minutes I called and they said the driver left with it 30 minutes ago. It arrived 1 hour and 45 minutes later. The pizza was cold. Room temperature cold as though it had sat out on the counter overnight. I was able to put the whole pizza in the palm of my hand. It had no warmth at all and was stiff as a board. The pizza had no flavor whatsoever. The most bland and plain pizza I've ever had and I've had plenty. I've had cold leftover pizza from other places that tasted better than this. Costco pizza is better and they're just meh. I think it was a frozen pizza from the grocery store. The antipasto salad was soggy as if they washed the lettuce but never drained it. The very small amount of dressing couldn't even stick to the veggies because they were so wet and soggy. An awful experience all around. They offered to send me a new pizza but I declined the offer. Like I said NEVER AGAIN. Farewell Haystack. read more

The food is good as ever. The review is on the service. We were a group of 6, My friend and I both ordered the Veal Scalapini the others ordered pizzas. The pizzas came out in a very timely manner however the veal took 2.5 hours to come. Apparently the piece of paper the order was on fell in the kitchen. This is unexusable. I could go on about how horrible Tina was but I wont. Get rid of Tina and everything will be great again. read more
