My biggest issue- The pictures displayed on their ordering platform are in no way representative of what your getting in person. The ambiance is very nice, Cowboy chic and cozy. They were busy during weekend brunch but we were seated immediately and the service was great, very attentive and my server was in training. The food is not up to par. I researched several dishes before coming here and their ordering platform has images of almost all dishes online. But these were so far from being realistic representations. Haystacks manages this content, it should be accurate or not presented at all. Quiche had a great flavor but came with a very meh spinach pile and potatoes that were in no way "haystacks piles." It was also considerably small, 4oz. Felt like I was eating airplane food. Mac and cheese bland and broken, Hannibal burger was very sweet not balanced. I'm on the fence with this place. I really wanted to like it. The people were very nice. The service was on point. The downtown location was fantastic. The food is what gives me some hesitation to recommend. My wife ordered a quiche since we were in during brunch. I opted for the burger that had pulled pork and onion rings. We were both disappointed by our meals. The quiche my wife saw a picture of on their website came out so tiny it reminded me of food they would serve you on an airplane. She showed me the picture and I was genuinely shocked to what they served her. She said it tasted fine, but when you order a quiche entree you expect the main focus of the plate to be what you ordered. It was mainly salad and home fry potatoes. I thought this place was known for the haystack potatoes considering the name, these were not that. My burger did come out as advertised. Towering over the plate with all the toppings. I tried the onion rings first. They were okay I guess, but covered all over with this sauce that was way too sweet. The other layers consisted of roasted pulled pork(under seasoned), provolone cheese, sausage(tasted like a hot dog), and the burger itself(dry and under seasoned). It was a chore to eat. I had a side of macaroni that was overcooked and mushy. The whole thing just left a bad taste in my mouth. We may have ordered the wrong items so I gave the biscuit basket to go for one last ditch effort to find something redeemable. I heated them in the air fryer to get them nice and crisp to serve with the gravy and jam. The gravy was too thin and the biscuits were mushy and turned into a paste once bitten. The jam was really good though. We threw the last biscuit away since it wasn't with the calories. I don't think we'll be back. I say you should go if you live in the area. Find out for yourself. Found Haystacks while walking around Downtown Sulphur Springs and totally jived with the vibe. Great music and aesthetic. A wide array of options for appetizers, entrees and desserts. Tried the smoked old fashioned and the wife decided to drink the Bluebonnet Bloom. Both did not disappoint. My wife loved her chicken accompanied by the Mac/cheese and broccoli. I had the ribeye along with the mashed potatoes. Decided to take a bread pudding to go. Emma is an outstanding server, and is a true asset to this restaurant. We came to Sulphur Springs and found ourselves looking for something to eat--and stumbled upon Haystacks. It wasn't very busy for an early Thursday evening, so we were seated right away. We started with the steak medallions appetizer, which was discounted during Happy Hour. I'd definitely get those again! I ordered the bacon burger but would probably pass on it next time--the meat just didn't have much flavor. While the prices aren't cheap, most of the food is solid. The rustic, cute décor adds to the charm, and the staff were all friendly and welcoming. They also have a full bar and a coffee bar, which is a nice touch. read more

Honest Review - Haystacks Restaurant, Sulphur Springs, Texas This was our second visit to Haystacks. The first time, the experience was okay--not perfect, but enough to give it another shot. The place is beautifully decorated with a cool, welcoming ambiance and a clean, comfortable setting. We came in around 7:39 p.m. and were warmly greeted by Aden, who seated us promptly and let us know our server would be with us shortly. He was polite, professional, and made us feel welcomed right away. Our server, Matti, came by shortly after and took our orders. I ordered the Buckeye steak with a baked potato (with brown gravy and chives), a side salad with Thousand Island dressing, mac and cheese, and a roll. My wife ordered the Cobb salad topped with fried chicken and Bleu cheese dressing. We both had Arnold Palmers to drink. While we were waiting for our food, another couple came in and Aden attended to them. A few minutes later, I noticed that their side salads were being served, even though we had arrived before them and mine hadn't arrived yet. I had to call Matti's attention to it, and she responded that she had been making coffee orders. While I understand multitasking is part of the job, it was disappointing to feel overlooked. When my salad finally came, I found the Thousand Island dressing to be far too vinegary for my taste. Then came the entrees. Unfortunately, several items were missing--my brown gravy, the roll, and chives for my baked potato--all of which were clearly listed in the POS system when she took our order. More disappointing was the steak--it came out cold, with the butter on top completely unmelted. I requested it medium-well, but it was definitely well-done. Being in the culinary field for 38 years as an executive chef and having owned restaurants myself, I can say with certainty that there are things happening behind the scenes that owners may not be aware of--and unfortunately, that reflects in the customer experience. On the bright side, Aden really stood out. He went out of his way to apologize for the mix-ups, check on us frequently, and did his best to make the situation right. I even overheard him handling another table's complaint with grace, offering a complimentary dessert to make up for their concerns. He spoke on behalf of the restaurant with professionalism, maturity, and poise, which I truly commend. He didn't forget to stay respectful and composed through it all. As for Matti--honestly, the experience was underwhelming. At the end of the meal, I still gave a $10 tip (which she didn't earn), but she took the bill, pocketed it without so much as a "thank you," and walked away. It's disappointing because Haystacks has potential. It's a lovely place with a lot going for it, but service and food execution are key, and that's where things fell short. I hope management takes the time to recognize the staff who truly care (like Aden) and puts more effort into training and consistency. The small things--hot food, correct orders, and basic manners--go a long way. read more

The seating was fine, they accommodated our party of 7. It was our post graduation crowd and came in towards the end. Ordered and they got 4 of the plates confused with sides and all. Ordered their "Texas -fried steak" but mine seemed like a child portion. We were real hungry and ordered from the whole menu. Maybe waitress should use pen paper to get order correct because as I pay the bill and items didn't come out correct but the ticket sure did. We've been here several times. I love their breakfast cowboy quiche and the salad that comes with it. The food has been good. However, be careful when getting a to go order. Check to make sure your order is correct before you leave. I wasn't going to make another 15 minute trip back up there to get our missing item. Be cautious if going here, especially if you want quick service. Understandably they were busy today because its the day after a holiday and they were short staffed, but it took over an hour for us to get our food after we ordered it. Normally that would be fine, but we watched 5 tables that were seated after us and ordered after us, including a table of 6, that all got their food before ours came out and also most were gone or leaving by the time our food came out. We got eggs benedict, kids pancakes, and chilaquiles, not anything that should have taken that long to get out of the kitchen. Our server kept saying 2 minutes, 45 seconds ect and each time it was 5-10 minutes before he came back and gave us another false hope time for our food to come out. When it came out, the chilaquiles had no cilantro, queso fresco and the eggs were scrambled and not sunny side up like the menu stated. The eggs benedict had the smallest drizzle of hollindaise on each egg (no more than 1/2 a teaspoon on each egg) and the English muffins were so hard and also somehow rubbery that they couldn't even be cut with a knife and chewing them was unpleasant, so the english muffins were ditched and uneaten. The kids pancakes were typical pancakes with no issues there, surprisingly. The biscuit basket was good and came out quick, but that and our drinks were the only thing that came out in a reasonable time and was accurate to the menu description. Due to the service and quality of the food, I wouldn't recommend eating here nor will we be going back. It was not worth the $70 spent. read more

Texted my nephew for places to eat in Sulphur Springs and he suggested Haystacks. It's a quaint little place downtown that's not far from I-30. Emily was our server and she did an outstanding job. Cute restaurant in Sulphur Springs's charming downtown. Service was prompt and friendly. We had the cowboy breakfast skillet -- eggs were perfectly done, sausage, biscuit, and gravy were all great. The hash brown "bale" was also good, but a tiny but bland. We also had the sunshine bruschetta--sourdough toast topped with spinach, sun dried tomatoes and a poached egg. The egg was slightly undercooked, but otherwise it was a yummy, fresh dish. I had a side of sausage to round it out, because sausage is life, We were here on at 9:30 on a Saturday morning and the place was mostly empty. Restaurant has a modern western design feel, and they were playing great 90's country hits. Stopped by for a quick lunch when the Redneck across the street didn't send anyone to our table to greet us or take our order after sitting far too long. At Haystacks we were promptly greeted and seated by our server Connor, welcomed by (who I assume was) the owner, and had our order taken with very little wait. The BLT was large and tasty. Personal preference should have had me replace the basil pesto aioli with mayo, but it was still good. The fries were a bit greasy / soggy which was a non-issue since there was so much food I took them home, crisped them up in the oven and had them for dinner. Nice atmosphere. This little place right off the busy town square is quite cute with its bright, umbrella shaded sidewalk patio and western art adorned interior walls. There is a large bar at the rear which sent out some yummy looking mimosas and tequila sunrises as well. We enjoyed our Sunday morning brunch, although we needed to modify from the menu a bit. Our waitress graciously noted our gluten-free dietary restrictions as she entered the order. They offer many specialty coffee drinks but regular coffee was a very good dark roast and served hot. I had a very generous juicy brunch burger minus brioche bun and it came out delicious with the egg topper being cooked over medium (by request) and aioli on the side. The slender fries that came with were plentiful enough to share. Hubby had the Early Morning Haystack (made to order eggs, bacon, hash browns) minus the biscuit and gravy served in a baby iron skillet. They allowed sliced tomato substitution at no extra charge which was enough with my extra fries. He said it was good. I would recommend and definitely will return and seek a seat on that beautiful sun shaded patio for a cold cocktail on another day! read more

Hubby and I stopped at Haystacks for lunch while visiting downtown Sulphur Springs. The server was great. The restaurant was nice and quiet to be able to talk and visit. I ordered the classic Eggs Benny and Hubby ordered the Hopkins Fixin's (chicken fried steak). The food was good, but the only criticism is that both of our eggs were over cooked. My eggs on the Eggs Benedict was as hard as a boiled egg and Hubby's over easy was a hard fried egg. An older gentleman, whom we believed to be the owner of the restaurant, stopped by and told us about the complimentary pumpkin biscotti.
