This is an experience and has a great story! It was originally established in 1899. The new owner has done some serious upgrades and renovations but the place still feels unique. Our server was prompt and pleasant. The place was clean and honestly can't wait to see what they do with as yet unrestored part. It's walled off so it's not intrusive to your experience. He had an omelet that was loaded with meat-bacon, ham, sausage. He throughly enjoyed it! I had biscuits and gravy (never had it before) with ham. We eat a keto/carnivore way at home so always try to get something that's not when we go out...( I love eating that way, don't get me wrong, but I have no problem splurging when we go out) I had hot tea ( they only have two options black or green ) - I chose black which was Lipton tea. There were a few specials offered- fresh baked pastries and cookies. We had no room left to indulge on that day, but we'll be back!! Highly recommended!! read more

We had a great lunch at Kitchens! My friend and I got the best of both worlds by agreeing to share 2 different entrees - the chicken fried steak and the tuna salad plate - comfort food and a healthier option. The delicious chicken fried steak was huge and had a crispy exterior, and we got homemade mashed potatoes and FRESH CUT fries!! The tuna salad was perfect with the slight sweetness from sweet pickles, and came on a bed of fresh lettuce with fruit. It was all so tasty. The staff was friendly and attentive. Alyssa sat us to a table quickly, and Kelly was a great server. I could tell they enjoy their jobs and I am sure regular customers appreciate them!! The dining area was very cute - perfect for a main street in a quaint town - and clean. We were told about renovations happening to the "hardware" side, and I can't wait to return for another amazing lunch (or maybe breakfast!!), and to see the other side. read more

A terrific greasy spoon in a former hardware store. You'll find southern comfort food like fried chicken and steak, biscuits etc... The staff was super nice and the service was great. A bit of a wait time, but that's fine. 5 stars for the Gravy!! read more

They need to fix their heater or at least get a working fireplace. We will probably try it again, but we'll wait until it's warmer outside. It was so cold inside that they plugged in a space heater. The biscuits and gravy were homemade and very yummy. Our server was friendly, but they need more than one server, though. It took way too long to get a menu and coffee. read more

Tried this place on a Sunday morning after other places were closed. The entrance isn't clearly marked if you aren't familiar with the area. The service from our server was basic, but the other servers carried the weight with checking in and covering refills. It took over an hour for our food to arrive. My wife had the half breakfast which was an egg, ham, grits, a biscuit and country gravy which she thoroughly enjoyed. I had the small egg and bacon breakfast burrito and a short stack with which I was happy. The young lady who served us was attentive and very friendly. The ambience is one found in small towns throughout Texas, very country, laid-back and inviting. You can easily imagine Slim Pickens and John Wayne walking in and ordering coffee while shaking the dust off of their Stetsons. Great food. They did have a sign up for if they are busy to bear with the service. Only three tables being served and they were a bit slow but friendly. Coffee was good and hot. Had the western omelette with hashbrowns and rye. All was really good and I will go back and try the lunch menu. Kitchen's is kitsch! They have a couple big tables on the hardware side , a main serving area, and small patio. The hardware side of the establishment is more of a museum than a retail establishment but everything is for sale. You can order cooked to order breakfast, lunch and dinner. My husband went there for lunch recently . The special was mushroom chicken . Our waitress cannot remember what vegetable goes with it "stir fried cabbage with something and some kind of beans" I cannot believe how unappealing the dish was when she put the plate in front of me. It's chicken drumsticks and thigh doused with cream of mushroom soup., the cabbage looks nasty and the beans is tasteless. I will never go back there. read more

Went for brunch on a Sunday. Husband ordered 2 eggs over easy, with hash browns. Hash browns weren't cooked and 1egg was over well. I ordered a Junior Bacon Cheeseburger, dry with all veggies and a side of thousand island to replace mustard. For some unknown reason the cook toasted the outside of the bun while the inside of bun was white, not toasted at all. Now I'm 65 and all my life the inside of the bun is toasted as to not get soggy. Toasting the outside of the bun made it rock hard. Told waitress about the eggs, hash browns and petrified bun. She came back with a bun for their larger burgers, not toasted anywhere just slapped on the inside and outside with butter and greasy as could be. Now you would think she would have taken my junior burger back to kitchen to be reassembled. Another individual came back with 3 new eggs. I never got the thousand island dressing. Before Kitchens sold, it had been a staple for Mineola, it was a place you took people that were visiting from out of town. Now it is a disaster. I've been 3 to 4 times since it sold hoping each time it would be better, but unfortunately it has not. I think it is time to give up and spend my hard earned money elsewhere! read more

I have eaten at Kitchens several times, but on the last occasion I visited, and the occasion before that, service was very, very poor. I do not like to provide negative reviews, so I write this one in the hope that management will see the problem with customer service and fix it. The restaurant has potential. The food has been good. So, my experience has been related to almost a complete lack of attention from either the host/hostess or wait staff. The last time I was there, a week and a half ago, my buddy and I just walked out. Literally, no one gave us any focus at all. We were sat in the other dining room, which was our choice. Not so much as even a look in to see if we were ready to order. I had to go to the front desk just to get a menu. If this restaurant is going to do well, they are going to have to be customer centric. In my recent experiences, that has not been the case. read more

Most awful food I've ever gotten from a restaurant. The young girl who originally took our drink orders had a gigantic piece of gum in her mouth and an attitude when she spoke. Our waiter after her was very polite though so he redeemed that aspect of our visit. The appetizer bread seemed to be microwaved and had that soggy then spongy texture, the mashed potatoes tasted sour and I'm pretty sure they had gone bad before they served it. The chicken fried steak was chewy and did not have a good flavor. It's now the next day and I was up all night nauseous, pretty sure I got food poisoning. Made a quick stop in town to visit my niece. She took us here for brunch and so glad she did. The wait staff was amazing and treated you like family. Our waitress, Emma was on top of her game and made everything perfect. The food was great and the atmosphere was even better. You can't beat a small town, Texas family owned business such as this. Apparently the new owners have changed things. Change is always a good thing, it helps keep you from becoming stagnant, however, there is an old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." To say the breakfast was inedible may be an understatement. The bacon was rancid, the eggs were runny and the sausage smelled like it was a week old. The biscuits should be donated to the NHL if for nothing else, practice. We drove over an hour to experience the ambience and the food that used to be spectacular. This was a very bad and sad experience. We went to breakfast here it was just two people. I had biscuits gravey, my wife had the full breakfast. It all started good till a large party of about 20 came in and the waitress who took our order vanished. After seeing folks on the other side of the restaurant getting there meals "who entered after us" my wife went and found a waitress and asked bout our meals. Wow suddenly our food was ready. Now let's talk about our food my wife's meal was horrible the bacon was raw, the eggs looked like the scrappings you get from the side of the pan " the thin crusty stuff". My meal was 2 biscuits and a salsa bowl of gravey enough to cover one biscuit. My wife sent her meal back But at checkout they charged us for her meal. The young men said he would take $4.00 off he claimed she ate off it and we should have notified someone "we were abandoned and left for dead". Recap 1 hour to get food after you have to ask were it's at. Abandoned at your table and told that's your fault. Rude customer service. Under cooked food. Small portions. Just a bad experience. The food is consistently really good and plates are generous, especially breakfast. The tables are cleaned properly and dirty dishes are not just left on unused tables. Wait staff is friendly, but sometimes orders are a little slow, sometimes cracking fast. Their bloody Mary's are to kill for, and their prices are decent. I will keep patronizing Kitchen's which may I say has improved exponentially with the present owner. And the decor is cute!!! read more

Came here for dinner tonight! Walked in and immediately saw a small sign stating that service might be suffering because of staffing issues. So i wouldn't recommend coming here if you are in a hurry. Even though service wasn't super fast, our waitress was hustling to help everyone with just one other waiter. She recommended several items and we settled on the chicken fried steak and the kids got pancakes because they do breakfast on Thursdays! Other than one part of the steak being slightly overcooked, everything was delicious and we finished it all! Imperfect cooking reminded me of real home cooking! The kids loved their fluffy "happy" pancakes. We finished up with the banana caramal or something pie and it was gone so fast I couldn't even get a picture!!! Will definitely be back! read more

The restaurant has it all - best breakfast in town, terrific lunch and dinner options, and they transform into a steakhouse on weekends. The full bar puts it over the top. We have been patronizing Kitchens restaurant for years. We will not eat at this restaurant again. The food is good but we have had two bad experiences. The first, my daughter's credit card was compromised last year. My daughter knows this is were it happened because it was the only place she used the credit card. Second, two weekends ago my daughter's Ray-Bans we're stolen off the table. We actually walked out of the restaurant and then walked back in to retrieve her glasses. Amazing old building from the 1800's being used as a restaurant on one side and a hardware/mercantile store on the other. They had some really old signs up from WWII and we had an awesome breakfast there too. Nothing beats Texas bacon and eggs! read more
