Amazing selection of beer among other things. Aside from how gorgeous the store was, I was most impressed by the incredible customer service. No matter where I turned, there was someone to help me find what I was looking for. Now I will admit that they didn't have the Nicaraguan beer I love (not many stores do), but they had everything else. The best prices on scotch whiskey that I've found in the area. Also, some amazing prices on ZCard specials. They had a Portuguese wine on special yesterday that was cut from $20 to $8. I googled the wine when I saw the price, and other stores had it at close to $20. I also like that they get the seasonal beers quickly. I'm big on seasonal beers, especially heading into winter when all of the good ones come out, so have been happy to see a good selection at Hazels. read more

I ordered 6 Bailey's on sale from their website and after i got a confirmation email i was called and i was told there was a glitch on their website - Tara called me and she said she was the store manager and that it was a glitch on their website. I asked her to honor that price for the regular Bailey's. If this was a glitch and i was the first person i am sure the BIG STORE can afford to honor the price .Tara said their COST is $18 for a regular Bailey's .... which actually $18 is the price they are selling it on the shelf. The selection here is incredible. Was looking for an obscure type of whiskey and this is the only place in town that carries it. Staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. This was my first trip to Hazels but it won't be my last. The place is huge but it was easy to find our way around. I stocked up on my favorites (Savignon Blanc and Chard) while my friend disappeared to the enormous beer cooler. The prices are definitely lower although you need to sign up for the store card to get all the deals. Its free so personally I have no issue with that. I don't like places like REI that want to sell you a membership but free works for me. Very cool layout and decoration. It was a fun experience all around. read more

Whose "FORCING" you to get the discount card? People on Yelp are so self-satisfied at being able to complain about literally anything. The real deal with the card is that it takes 30 seconds to sign up for. They get very basic info (name, address, email, contact phone) and every-time you go in they ask for your phone number and you get the points and special discounts. You don't NEED to carry the card. Its a good system and people here are misinformed. There are also great discounts without the card. Some prices on beer are pricey but they have the novelty of carrying TONS of rare beer, liquor and wine, much of which isn't carried elsewhere, so I don't really see Hazel as being overpriced. As for the parking, yeah it sucks. But if you can't spend an extra two minutes parking in adjacent close-by parking (next to Marshalls or whatever) then I don't know what to say to you. Yeah Superior Liquor and Liquor Mart are the local standbys, but give Hazels a chance. I won't go there every single time, but its still a welcomed addition to the liquor store availability in Boulder. read more

It's Boulder: there's going to be some naysayers dismissing Hazels because it happens to be larger than a Vitamin Cottage and thus too corporate for the Boulder Bubble. Anyway, here are some pros and cons of Hazel's. Pros: -Wide variety of liquor, wine, cigars, and beer. -The Z card rocks! -Very competitive prices (read CHEAP). One thing I was not prepared for when I moved to Boulder was the high cost of living. Back home in Wisconsin, I could get a 30 of Natty for roughly $11.50, including tax, and Hazel's is fairly comprable with a 30 of Natty being around $13 even. I say fairly comprable because before Hazel's opened, some of the other stores around here were pushing it for around $16.99 on sale. I use a 30 of Natty as a benchmark for price comparison. Feel free to flame me all you want. -Great build your own six pack of craft beer selection. -Staff is very friendly and helpful. -Atmosphere and brand image is a pretty neat concept. -I like the weekly events. Cons: -Ovestaffed. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the store has too many people working at times. -Parking lot. Need I say more? -I wish the website had a product and price look up. However, the site hasn't been up very long and the store has a huge inventory so perhaps in the future there will be something. Overall: I can't imagie going anywhere else with my limited budget that doesn't sacrifice on variety, customer service, atmosphere, and price. Totally overpriced. They also force you to give them personal information to get sale prices. Seems like all 12 packs were about 2-3 dollars more then other stores in the area which may not sound like much but when you are talking about a 12 dollar item it means that it is 25% more then other stores near by. read more

If I could list negative stars I would. My experience was anything less than pleasant with both staff and the management of the establishment. The location refused to accept my cash payment! I have no other means to purchase an item and was treated as a second class citizen when unable to pay with any other means. Cash is still a legal tender with in the United States and I should not be decimated against if that is my only means of payment. You may refuse service if I was doing something inpatriate or something that may cause harm to an employee or other guests. All I wanted to do was pay for my item an go about my day but was treated as if I was some sort of thug unable to pay for my item. There was no decorum, no service, nothing but hostel intent from a staff that could care less! Please avoid this location! There are other places that value their customers more in the city of Boulder and Hazel's should learn basic customer service skill from the top down! read more

Excellent selection. However the employees are jerks, in the past 6 months that I've been in there, the checkout people are just not in the mood to be there. I prefer to go to Wyatt's in Longmont, the folks that work there are super friendly and helpful, always giving me an idea of something else I should try, and their selection is almost as good. I've been shopping there ever since they have opened and I have nothing but great things to say about them in their employees. It's worth the drive and the attitude makes it worth it. Purchased a keg for party, turns out the keg was green beer...nearly three weeks after St. Patty's Day. Explaining why our beer was green to very single guest was annoying and frustrating. When we returned the keg, we requested some sort of reimbursement for the fact we had strange colored beer that we didn't request and was given to us well after St. Patty's Day. The staff was flippant and dismissive, it was a little infuriating. They told us we could have just have had a "Dr. Seuss themed party." Prior to this experience, I've had nothing but great experiences. However, the complete disregard and disrespect of the staff after a mistake that was completely their own fault makes me hesitant to shop there again. If your staff screws up and gives us green beer (that was NOT REQUESTED), they should own the mistake and somehow compensate for it. They SHOULD NOT be flippant and condescending. Horrible customer service, which is the opposite of my normal experience at Hazel's, it's a really a shame. read more

Stopped in yesterday for the first time. Unfortunately I think it will be the last. As the 7/3/2012 review says, unless you sign up for their "Z-Card", expect to pay around 20-30% more. Even with their membership card, the prices are comparable to what you'd find at larger liquor stores like Liquor mart or Superior Liquor, so you really are not getting much in the way of savings. I can't really speak to the beer selection, but be prepared to go-it-alone if you're looking for wine. And I could tell based on the selections they have, that they are more concerned with volume than they are on quality. With so many other great wine retailers around, I feel there is little reason to return. read more

This place is beyond awesome. Super huge, MUCH lower prices than the other stores in Boulder, and just a totally cool place. They have an airplane hanging in the store for Chrissake. We went on Saturday and they were having a party out front and pouring samples inside, including some primo champagne. I have been here before and have normally had pretty decent experiences. I had an unfortunate experience today, however, that prompted me to open a yelp account and post this review. I felt the cashier today was condescending and downright rude. When I approached the register, he barely greeted me or acknowledged my presence. When he asked for my ID, I showed him my temporary drivers license (as I have recently moved to Colorado). He told me he could not accept my temporary ID without the original ID from my previous state. The manner in which he explained this was extremely condescending and confrontational. When my partner tried to produce his passport and pay for it himself, the cashier then asked us whether we were married as he could only allow us to purchase it if we were married. I found this question intrusive and sincerely doubt that this could be an actual policy. Finally the manager arrived and allowed my partner to pay for the damn beer. No apologies for the inconvenience. Instead, the employee continued to explain with a complete air of superiority that even though my temporary ID was "issued by the DMV, Hazel is not the DMV". And with this last nonsensical statement, delivered with extreme condescension by a person with an inflated sense of importance, I was finally able to go home to drink my beer and to google search other better liquor stores where I can take my business. read more

The first problem that I encountered was finding the place. Even though I knew the location ahead of time, it was difficult to find and get to. Once there I found a shiny new, ultra modern...and kind of cold...store. The numerous cashiers were very friendly in welcoming me, but trying to actually find help regarding buying some wine wasn't so easy. I wasn't at all impressed with the knowledge of the first person I asked for help, and that person made no effort to find someone that could answer my questions. The selection is good but no better than Liquormart or Superior, and unless you give out your personal information to get the member card, you are going to pay high prices. This is my go-to liquor store. They have a great craft beer selection, and very competitive prices. The sales on spirits are usually hard to beat. Once in a while they'll be doing a fun promotion where you do a bean-bag toss or something similar and you win a bottle or some swag of the sort. Individual beers for the mix-and-match 6 packs are a bit over-priced but their selection and excellent customer service triumph this so it is my go to store. Plus, they do tastings every friday and saturday, sometimes even with hor'dourves ! read more

I have had nothing but excellent shopping experiences here. I can only speak for their beer and tequila selections, but the prices and varieties are all top notch. The employees all know their way around the store and have been very helpful every time I have been in there. Additionally, their email sales are exquisite. I saved $14 today on a 12-pack of twisted pine and a 375ml of silver Patron. I will be shopping exclusively at this store from now on. read more

I'm looking forward to exploring the large selection of wines, and have already taken advantage of their tastings. I went to Hazel's grand opening yesterday and it was awesome! When I walked in, i was greeted by a friendly staff and I immediately noticed the airplane hanger theme with the WWII WASP pictures on the walls. I walked around and everything was easy to find. The selection was incredible! And the prices!! Signing up for a Z card saved me about $5 on each bottle I bought. I was very impressed with the 70 doors of beer, rare wine room, and the humidor. Very cool, overall a great experience. I cant wait to shop there again! read more

Okay, did someone from Liquor Mart write these last two reviews? Seriously, I didn't spend too much time scrutinizing beer prices but wine prices are stellar! Compared a few of my favorites between LM and Hazels and stuff at Hazels is consistently $1-5 cheaper! NOTHING was more expensive. And there are lots of wonderfully helpful people around to point you towards the smaller production, boutique stuff if that's what you're looking for. As for the Z card thing, its just like signing up at tom thumb or king supers--everyone has to sign up there to get the discounts and I don't hear people pitching a fit about it and as you gain points for purchases you make, you get coupons. Why is this a bad thing again? I loved Hazel's, the store is huge and new and full of great stuff! read more

I love Hazel's. I came in here when it first opened and have not shopped at another liquor store since. The place is huge and very well organized. I don't feel claustrophobic in here like I do at other liquor stores where the aisles seem to be 2ft apart from each other. Huge selection of everything, I love the beer selection. The prices are great and there are always sales. People complain about having to carry around the Z card for the sales but you can just tell the cashier your phone number, no big deal. I've found the staff to be very helpful overall. They have a nice big parking lot and an easy to get to location. Best liquor store in Boulder hands down. read more

I wouldn't ordinarily write a review for a liquor store, but the wide selection and unique interior decor of Hazel's makes it well worth a visit, and sets Hazel's apart from other liquor stores. I am easily overwhelmed by the vast selection of beverages here, and I particularly enjoy browsing the featured wines near the front entrance. On weekends, Hazel's frequently offers informative wine tastings, which adds to my enjoyment of shopping here. read more

First of all, you don't have to carry a card around at all. You just tell them your phone number that you linked to the card. So, that's easy. And then you get discounts for racking up points. It's a win-win. Also, people have complained about too much customer service and too little. I find it to be perfect. It's a liquor store and it has great prices! It's also enormous so has just about anything you could ever want. And the farthest I've ever parked is like 4 spots from the door, so I don't know who would complain about that. Also, it's across the street from Target, so the location is great. I love this place! I can't believe people are complaining at all... but I guess some people are hard to please. read more

Hazel's tries to tell us they are the most modern liquor store in the region when in fact they are decades behind. Their website is totally useless - no indication of what they offer in terms of selection or price. I refuse to shop at a store which will not allow me to see what is available - why not? I suspect it is because they do not want to compete with other large stores in the area. They do not match the prices of other stores which is common these days at other stores. This business model is for those who are not really into knowing what they will find before wandering around this store. Are all the prices always low - hardly as proven by the fact they do lower many for sales. So one is left having to spend a lot of time in this store figuring out what is worth buying. The space is nice but the way they operate is not. read more
