I've only been in there a couple times but I did not like the feel of the place. It's like the Target of liquor stores. Where are the smiles? Everyone says their prices are good but there is nothing really special about it. They also never give any prices in their ads. How is one supposed to plan? I do like their nice new beer coolers but the layout and experience was bland and they do NOT have the biggest selection around like they say. I usually shop wherever is closest to my house and right now that would be Hazels, but for an extra mile I'd rather shop at Liquor Mart. More product, more community ties. read more

Me and a couple of my friends went here tonight. Their selection is quite impressive but I have to voice a negative experience I just had, even though I am not the kind of person who does this sort of thing. My friend broke his foot about a week ago in a skateboarding accident, and is currently using crutches to get around. As we approached the counter the cashier looked as him very conspicuously and asked for all of our I.D.s, which I have absolutely no problem with. Then, she started making a claim that he seemed under the influence even though he was 100% sober. After we started making the situation lighthearted she proceeded to accuse my handicapped friend of giggling and being on drugs. We were simply giggling from how awkward and uncomfortable she was making us feel. I need to state this, he was only buying cheese. CHEESE. For wine we already had waiting at home. Though my other friend did have a six pack of beer, it just seemed so unnecessary and rude. She then used her little moronic walkie talkie to call her manager to inspect us to see if we were too impaired to purchase cheese. Mind you, my friend with the beer was still in the back of the line. Anyway, we got out with the cheese and the six pack after the manager clearly acknowledged we were perfectly fine. Just a ridiculous experience overall. I work at a liquor store myself, so I understand that in this day and age you have to be cautious, but I felt like we were at an airport! I'll be taking my business elsewhere, as I don't appreciate being treated like that on a casual transaction. You should consider doing the same. The cashier's name was Joy. read more

Oh my gosh the selection here is incredible! The aisles are huge and filled with bottles. If they don't have your selection I don't who does. There are also lots of customer service lines so you don't have to wait for long to check out. read more

Excellent selection selection of both beer and liquor. I can't speak for the wine because I'm not into it. When stuff is on sale the prices are really great. The everyday prices are no better or worse than any other place in Boulder. My only knock on the place is the staff, they could be more knowledgeable for sure. I see people complaining about only getting the sale price with the card. News flash: It might be newer to the world of liquor stores but I bet you have a King Soopers, Safeway, RiteAid & Walgreens card right? I don't see what the big deal is. read more

Google, it answers everything. That's is if the company advertising is on top of there game. Last night I was staying in Longmont, off a whim I googled THC infused beer near me. Why not? Hazels came up as the 1st ad ( I informed them)THC infused beer with a off name beer can. I drove 30 minutes to their store. No sign of that beer so I ask and was told. We disassociate ourselves with any CBD or THC products, it is too much of a liability not being FDA approved. So why the add?? Okay that's cool man, here is where the 4 stars come from. I was given a specialist who pointed me towards a legit Absinthe pushing the true amount of worm wood called, St George- Absinthe Vetrte and he even took the time to teach me, mix 1 part Absinthe to 4 parts water ( extremely cold to allow it to dissipate, I later found this to allow me to taste the true flavor notes), and as I was ready to leave until I was offered to try another awesome liquor called Fernet Branch, a liquor that has roughly 20 + herbs. I was told to try it with real Mexican Coke ( another flavor palet lover alcohol). I was gonna review negative as many liquors lose my interest. The knowledge of the staff and patience they gave me earned my true words of "I'll be back" Thank you for turning my disappointments into happiness! read more

I know I've written previously about how fabulous the selections and prices are, especially re the wines, but also single malt scotch...oh and how about a 12-pack of Stella Artois for under $13...but today I want to given them kudos for their awesome customer service. While loading wine into my cart last week a bottle slipped out of my hands and went kersplat...red wine & glass all over the isle. I was of course mortified and brought it to the attention of an employee who said "absolutely no problem"! I was prepared to pay for it and her reply was, "it happens; no need to pay for it; I'll get it cleaned up right away". Happily it was a red blend & not a Brunello...though she didn't know that...and indeed it was cleaned up in a matter of minutes. Another reason to shop at this wonderful store. read more

THIS PLACE IS AWESOME I see a lot of complaints about having to sign up for a loyalty program and carry a card around'. Is it that bad guys? We do it at Safeway. I did It today, it took about 30 seconds to tell them my name and phone number, they gave me a card- then informed me I didn't need to hold onto it. With a phone number they can always find your account. Loyalty cards aside the service was excellent and the line wasn't unexpected at 730 on a Friday in a college town. The prices are excellent and every staff member I encountered was friendly and well informed. I had an absolutely awesome experience at Hazel's. I stopped at a friend's recommendation looking for a special bottle of bourbon to give as a really important, last-minute gift. Erin Robertie came over to help and asked a bunch of questions about what I was looking for - she went into the back and came back after a few minutes with an incredibly rare, hard-to-find bottle that absolutely saved the day. Cashier was incredibly rude, and overly suspicious of my out of state ID. Wound up leaving empty handed. Will not return.

I agree that forcing you to get the Z-card isn't the greatest. Safeway, King Soopers, Petco, etc.....how many cards do we need? And the prices are nothing special, except they do have some super cheap wine. it might be horrible, we left. If I go to REI and get a craving, then maybe. but i wouldn't go out of my way to go there. read more

I am from out of town and visited Hazel's after an extraordinarily long day of travel, and the unlimited beer selection was exactly what I needed. Most beer stores have only a few stout options, but Hazel's has shelves and shelves of beer options for any pallet. A perfect place to explore Colorado beer past Coors, New Belgium, and Left Hand. Also has a pretty great membership program. read more

The selection was comparable to the other area stores, and the parking is terrible! When I went to check out there was a line of people and a guy yelling at the staff to open more registers. I got to the check out with my few items and questioned the cashier about the prices that rang up much higher than the annoying flashing price sign. I was then told in order to get the price I needed to have the club card. Great another card.... Without the card, the prices were 30% higher than the area, which are already high. I ended up going to Liquormart where I got the same 3 items for $3 less and no hassle! read more

Moved here a few months ago and was so disappointed by the way wine was sold in my neighborhood. Mediocre products at high prices compared to what I was used to in Scottsdale. A friend introduced me to Hazel's and I am thrilled. Great selection at decent prices. Still higher than what I was used to in AZ, but one large store with a decent selection. Last night I found the wine from New Zealand I had discovered at a party recently for 1/2 the price as in the liquor store in my neighborhood. I gladly drive the 10 miles to Boulder to purchase wine. Generally I find the younger staff a bit aloof - typical millennial attitude. If I need help I have found the somewhat older team members to much more accommodating. read more

I'm 29. Went in with my 21 yr old brother. Didn't have My id on me because I accidentally left it in my sons diaper bag that I left with him at his grandmas. So I didn't buy anything. However, in the checkout line my brother wasn't allowed to buy his stuff because I was with him and didn't have my id. Makes no sense. Worst customer service. An entire half hour wasted walking around looking for what he wanted only to be told they wouldn't sell to us even tho he had his id. Ridiculous. It's not even like I look young. I'm almost 30. Will never go there again after this. What a stupid fucking rule. To think I even recommended this place to ppl. Never again. read more

4.5 Stars, my first time here. i was surprised about the 3.5 stars (at time of my visit). initially i was wondering if i should even enter inside 'cause... with 3 stars i start to imagine ripped carpet with stains or broken linoleum titles, bad florescent lighting with that buzzzz, a bug zapper on the wall, and mono-browed Guido wearing a wife-beater basking in Budwiser neon glow. well, i'm glad i went it because that's definitely not what i got ! tonight I was going for beer and only expected a quick trip to pick up a six of something marginally better than PBR. i entered and was struck by how BIG the store was ! Hazel's is clean, very spacious and open, as in warehouse open - they could probably add 25% more alcohol and it would still feel like a regular liquor store. the decor is painted blues/greys, wood, and stainless steel so it's very palatable. then you notice an awesome vintage, WW2 fighter airplane with rotating prop hanging in the center of the store. around the walls you'll find LARGE ceiling fans with stainless 5' blades reminiscent of a plane wing, and lots of memorabilia about Hazel displayed on the walls. nice. then i saw the beer fridges ... and how they seemed to stretch for miles and miles. Hazel,... baby,... you had me at cool plane on the ceiling ! i honestly didn't believe the beer section was that big. i re-read the giant labels again - imported, domestic, crafted, ... . "yeah, those could be all beers,... but noway". i was still walking the beer line and had barely finished looking through 3/4 of the beer section when Nick (aka Odin) came over to ask me if i needed any help. i said yes, realizing i didn't have a plan good enough to tackle all of these choices; at this point my plan was about as useful as a bucket in a Louisiana flood. i knew Nick would need *something* to go on, and POW I remembered that I had just ordered some Indian food... so asked for suggestions about pairing with that, perhaps something lighter like a lager. Nick's pause was only long enough to scratch his chin, then he started talking about some great options. He thoughtfully explained the flavor and experience I would expect from each one. i thought a little bit, i grabbed my six, chatted with Nick for a minute more about beer, thanked him, and went on my way to the registers. there were four registers open, each with a single customer, so my total wait was about 30 seconds - barely long enough for a Yelp checkin. beep, swipe, scribble, done - it was that fast. i signed up for the rewards card too. in the end i purchased a six of the Prost Pils, a light german-style beer, that went marvelously with my spicy chicken tikka masala. thanks, Nick (and Hazel) !! read more

Usually when I go away, I like to visit bottle shops to ship some stuff home. This place has a large selection of cans and bottles. I already had a few things picked out from the shelves when I noticed a little door to a back refrigerated room. In there, I found a beer I have never heard of, but very rare based on reviews. Definitely got a little bit lucky, but I was in the right place at the right time. The cashier at the end noticed I was wearing a brewery T shirt from New Jersey which she worked at so that was a cool coincidence. Friendly staff, great selection. Can't go wrong. read more

Better selection on microbrews than Liquor Mart, but about same price on same items. Hard liquor, generally, a few bucks cheaper than Liquor Mart. Sale prices, about the same (saw same bottles on sale today at both places). Overall, very meh. Since liquor distributorship in the state is pretty much a monopoly, most stores in the area carry the exact same stuff, so, not much differences between places. Loyalty card program, non-starter for me: don't want to yet another card for something I don't buy a lot of during the course of the year. True, on some items, you can get the sale price plus an additional reduction with the card, just not worth it to me if the place just a few blocks away is carry at same price and no card needed for sale. If paying full-price, I'll comparison shop. read more

Please take your business somewhere else. The employees here do NOTHING about harassment and people being inappropriate. Once I went into Hazels, and as I was checking out, the cashier asked me if I would like to round up to donate. I said no thank you, and the man behind me in line blew up randomly at me - and made an uncalled for comment about me not donating. I turned to him, and said it was my choice if I donated or not. He then called me a fucking cunt and walked away. The cashier did absolutely nothing about this VERBAL HARASSMENT AND ABUSE - and that was not okay. The employees here should have asked this man to leave, and should have told him that they do not tolerate verbal harassment and verbal abuse, as well as inappropriate language. Instead, the cashier just stared at me like I was the one who did something wrong. I emailed the manager about it, and the manager had the nerve to tell me that I egged the man on. That is absolutely absurd. Verbal harassment and abuse towards women, which is a subpart of violence against women at large, should not be tolerated - and you should at least train your employees to tell people who are verbal abusing and harassing others to leave the store. read more

The Toys R Us of alcohol. In the same way I used to fantasize as a kid about winning one of those "Fill Your Shopping Cart With As Many Toys As You Can In 10 Minutes" contests, I feel the same way now about Hazel's as an adult. This place is huge - like airplane hanger huge. In fact, they have a real airplane hanging from the ceiling. No joke. The selection is fantastic - there are great craft brews, excellent wines, knowledgable staff and great sales on Sundays. The latter gets a little grim if you go when the store opens and have to compete with the regulars who get a little pathetic and aggressive as they rush to beat you to their cases of $3.00 bottles of wine. But other than that, I love the place. Good tastings on Fridays, too! read more

I don't understand a lot of the negative reviews here. First off, getting a card is really not a big deal. Literally took me 45 seconds to fill out, and now I save tons of money, plus they track your points per dollar spent, and you get gift cards for hitting set amounts of points. Not a bad deal. They have a great beer selection, lots of Colorado made whiskeys, and if you buy what is on sale, you will pay WAY less than local competition. Plus, every Sunday they send out an email with specials that are ridiculously cheap. The selection of craft beer is awesome, as is the make your own 6 pack, although Liquor Mart may have them beat on imports and bombers. Overall, a great liquor store with great sale prices. read more

They have free wine tastings on Fridays and Saturdays. There is also an opportunity to taste beer and spirits at these tastings. They have FREE tastings and and excellent selection of products to buy. I cannot want for anything else. read more

I would say they have to be at least 30% off anywhere else! New to CO where the liquor laws are beyond ridiculous. Grocery stores? Costco? Trader Joe's? Works any place I've lived but not in CO. And now we're taking on marijuana? But Hazels is open on Sunday and great any time. Excellent prices and selection in a light airy ware house. Certainly worth a try. I consider it my neighborhood treasure. read more

This store does not stand behind the products they sell. I purchased a $40 bottle of brandy which, when I opened it, it was clearly not brandy and had a foul taste and odor. The management refused to take it back and said I was out of luck. read more

This place is awesome. A huge warehouse full of endless amounts of adult beverages. Pretty much any kind of alcohol you want that's legal, they probably have. Free tastings too! The prices are decent on sale items. Other stuff is a bit overpriced but there is so much on sale that I didn't feel that offended by it. read more

Amazing selection of beer among other things. Aside from how gorgeous the store was, I was most impressed by the incredible customer service. No matter where I turned, there was someone to help me find what I was looking for. Now I will admit that they didn't have the Nicaraguan beer I love (not many stores do), but they had everything else.
