There is nothing quite like getting to experience the places people you love frequented growing up. Naturally, as part of the lil hometown tour- we went to a spot Noa used to frequent growing up. With GOUD reason too. Hazels is your classic American diner- no frills, just fresh brewed coffee, and comforting meals. I went with their "something new" skillet- a hearty combo of eggs, hash browns, corned beef hash and because i'm me I added cheese too. It was delicious in every sense. I can understand why this diner attracts the locals and visitors alike. Noa got the country skillet with eggs, hashbrowns, onion, peppers, and ham. The ham gave the salty savory kick to balance out the sweetness of the onions and peppers. Truly a treat- and again, huge portion. We also opted for a side of French toast because I feel like it's cruel to go to a classic diner and not get some form of French toast, pancakes, or waffles. They were delicious too. I know a cook there and she told us that the other guy cook there dropped toast on the floor picked it up and served it. He also coughs in his hand and doesn't wash them. She took the proof to the boss and her mother and they did nothing about it! They also can't pay their employees on pay day. read more

I agree that food quality had gone down over the years. I'm surprised they are still open after Covid but with food prices the way they were the past few years, some options may be more expensive for them. Also, whenever there is a change in the head cook, quality of food always suffers. I've experienced this with a longtime diner in Cleveland my husband & I always frequented. I have grown up eating at Hazel over the years. I have eaten all three meals there breakfast, lunch, and supper. I have found the food to be a good deal for the cost and the quality is much better than most chain restaurants. We need to support local businesses/ restaurants that have been around as long as Hazel's. read more

Cheap prices but, you get what you pay for - the food quality is inedible. Absolutely mush. I'm not picky and barely ever leave reviews but this place is TRASH. The pie we ordered at the end had a liquid film on the top. I was disgusted. Burgers taste like the cheap frozen patties sold in low budget grocery stores. Weird aftertaste. The waitress would not give us a receipt. We were one of the TWO tables occupied and were never offered refills. Never again will I darken the doors of that place. read more

Ok, it's a diner, you people with the nasty reviews get real. Okay the place is not nearly as big as it was when I was 8 and my grandma took me there but when I was eight my grandma took me there was a really long time ago so the fact that they're still in business says something. I met a couple of friends there for breakfast this morning we had a good time our coffee cups are never empty we did have to ask for our check but I think that was because the server thought we were lingering and they didn't need the table at that moment. Came here this evening (Friday) and had the lake perch. 6 big pieces and I had Mac and cheese as a side. Fish was tasty and light, but was coating was very soggy. Surprised to be told they haven't had pie or ice cream in at least a month. Both were a highlight that I usually always had as a dessert. read more

Took my family here the other day for some classic diner food and we were very satisfied! We had the best server, Arianna, who was very friendly and made it a great dining experience. Brunch at hazels today. My family and i decided to support local small business as much as possible. Hazels is your typical small town diner. The food is decent served hot and good size portions. Cost is reasonable and budget friendly. Don't expect much in the way of decor. But it's clean and comfortable with a small town feel. The only thing i don't like is breakfast is only severed until 12. I'm a breakfast kinda gal. read more

All the servers are polite and the food is diner fare but prepared better than average with good prices. I have been coming here for about 20 years and have seen an improvement in the quality of the food in the last few years. The only downside is that the service can be a little slow from time to time especially when it comes to getting the check. read more

This is your ultimate greasy spoon type of place. You walk in and seat yourself. The decorations are from a previous decade. It took about 10 minutes for a waitress to come over with menus and take our drink order. The service was slow throughout the rest of our time there but everyone was friendly at least. The food was better than I expected. I had some type of meat lover's skillet with sausage gravy and my boyfriend had an omelette. Everything came out good and hot and a decent size portion. This wouldn't be my first choice for breakfast, but the food was good and cheap. read more

Came in with my family for breakfast today and we won't be back. I went up to the counter to buy 3 lottery tickets, keep in mind they were not very busy and the blonde older waitress with black glasses was pretty rude to me. I serve and bartend so I understand she probably has been on her feet all morning and was tired but when you look up at me after I've been standing in front of you for a few minutes and say check? Like are you kidding me, sorry I was inconveniencing you because you didn't have our table and you had to wait on me for a whole 30 seconds. I then told her thank you and she just gave me a dirty look. I've lived in Elyria my entire life and we have been coming to hazels since I was a child, but we won't be back. read more

This is a great family restaurant and the prices are great as is the food. It's old fashioned but great value. I'm a regular here.
