    Quintessential Downtown Diner
    William M.

This establishment was a wonderful throw back to small town diners that used to be so common across the country. Staying in downtown Amherst, we could see the locals checking in each morning and decided to have breakfast there as well. The food was exactly as one would expect - quick, tasty, and very reasonably priced. The staff was friendly and efficient and the place was full of old articles about the town history. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to experience Amherst as it was and still is.

It's about as quaint as it gets; fresh coffee, and the food is cooked with love.

Do you want a great breakfast? This is your place. Stopped here while waiting for my dog to be…read moregroomed and I was not disappointed. Fantastic service and some of the best coffee I've had. I love breakfast bowls and they had a few to choose from, so I selected one of those along with a blueberry pancake. I normally don't gravitate to our pancakes, but I had to try since I had a few different options. I just got one, but that was plenty with my breakfast bowl. I chose the blueberry pancake and it was one of the best I've had. The breakfast bowl came out nice and hot with great flavors and a couple eggs on top. Everything was just fantastic. The ambience is what you would expect from a local diner. I will definitely be back so give it a try if you're in town.

ATTENTION GLUTEN ALLERGIES! The stars reflect a celiac response, not the food or service. If you…read morearen't sensitive to gluten, you should definitely eat here, because the food is delicious and the service is friendly. It's a wonderful local spot. The first time we went to The Nest, it was great for me -- the server also has celiac, and clearly looked out for me -- I did not get sick. I had the Big Bacon omelet, and my husband had the Gyro -- both enormous servings and delicious. My husband and I were so excited, because we've only been able to find a handful of restaurants that actually take food allergies seriously. The second time, when I told our server I have a severe gluten allergy (because most people genuinely do not know what celiac is . . .), she nonchalantly said "ok." I ordered the Cheesy Cheese; my husband had the Breakfast Burrito. While both were delicious (my husband couldn't finish his and said it was one of the best Breakfast Burritos he's eaten!), I barely made it to the BP gas station down the road before I got sick, and I was sick for 6 days! 6 days means DIRECT contamination -- either someone put toast on my plate and then took it off, or some other form of a direct hit with wheat/rye/barley (which could be soy sauce; "food" starch," etc.) It's so frustrating. I really try to do my best and order things that should be simple -- no sauces; no dressings -- if the kitchen and server take it seriously. It isn't a dietary choice -- believe me, my life would be much easier (and much more pleasant), if I did not have this disease. Sadly, we can't go back.

Anyway, the menu was very big! Two of us got different seasonal lattes: the cinnamon one and the peppermint one. Both were just okay. The cinnamon really tastes like a cinnamon bun !! One of us got a chai latte and it was very good. But one of us ordered an iced decaf s'mores latte. And we received a hot one. So we were nervous with the error, that many it wasn't decaf too. So she was a little nervous about drinking it. The sizes were huge too. Small was a 16oz ! Whoa! We also got food. Three of us got bagels. THESE WERE THE STARS! The bagels were SO FRESH and heavenly. WOW!!!! Two of us got the Asiago bagels. So good, but I didn't really appreciate the random piece of bacon that was in my bowl. Hahah. I'm a vegetarian! What was the doing in there! One of us got the sesame, and although good, only had about 15 seeds on it. And one of us got a breakfast bowl that was very good!! Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place for coffee, but I would recommend it for this bagels!!! YUM !
