I went due to a callous on the bottom of my foot that was painful Dr Shih was more concerned about my ankle which I have no trouble with digging his thumb into my ankle asking if that hurt well yes then proceeded to give me a(what I know now was) cortisone shot absolutely no discussion about what was going to take place and proceeded to bil my insurance for ankle treatment. He did shave down my callous that helped for a few weeks ill never go back. read more

Fine personality but took little interest in my foot. Came in with a sore on my heel (have had for months), the nurse took a picture prior to him coming into the room, no other physical exam, prescribed some cream and told me just don't let it crack. Asked for recommendations on how to help, socks, bandaids etc and was giving little direction. Still have the sore without improvements. read more

I had a bad football injury many years ago and went to the "podiatrist section" to get some help (seems goofy to me to have eye and foot doctors in the same office, but whatever). They offered no corrective exercise nuance at all despite me explaining to them that it was not a pain issue but a function issue--stemming from previous injury. The doctor immediately tried to get me to buy extremely expensive inserts and then gave me a cortisone shot in an area that was experiencing no mobility or stability issues. It obviously did nothing. This place is a money-making joke and is for older people who would never dare question the almighty doctor. For those looking to cure the cause of the problem and not just mask the pain, please try physical therapy or personal training--even if you have to try several before you find a good one. This place is not worth the trouble. read more

I came in for an ingrown toenail problem. Dr. Shih was knowledgeable but talked too quickly when giving the explanation of how they treat ingrown toenail. I'd been dealing with it for a couple months already but it wasn't getting better, so I decided to go ahead with the recommended procedure to remove the ingrown part of my nail. I asked a bunch of follow up questions but I didn't really get answers I needed. I was expecting them to provide me with an instructional sheet on how to take care of my toe after the procedure, but they provided nothing. They did sell me a surgical postop kit which they said would speed up the recovery time. But I am now 3 days post surgery and my toe is hurting badly. The doctor mentioned there's usually no pain after the procedure is done. I find that hard to believe. They said nothing about pain management or what to do in this case. I have a follow-up appointment in one week but I will be calling them before that. I hope they can provide better information than what was provided right after my procedure. I was hoping for a better outcome overall which is not the case. read more

After retirement, I hought I could no longer afford H-toT eye care and glasses. i have learned a valuable lesson: I can't trust my eye care to the box shops. Dr Z and her staff do a comprehensive exam- not a 'routine' exam. Dr Z takes the time to run the tests, then double check the results with additional work. To fit glasses, she does measurements and settings NO box store will do. Her prescription is precise, for each and every customer, and the lenses are much better than those offered at box stores. drop the box store, support a local business and get a better product with superior results for YOUR vision. read more

Dr Shih was insistent that a get a cortisone injection for my plantar fasciitis, when I tried to explain to him that it never has helped me in the past. I wanted him to treat me with laser therapy, but he pushed me to do shock wave therapy which hurt like HELL! It also was $150 per visit and not covered by insurance. The second and LAST visit with him, I gave in and allowed the cortisone injection (he comes into the exam room with 4 syringes ready to go in his pocket by the way), then the shock wave therapy session started and was soooo painful that tears were coming down my face. I wasn't crying..just the intense pain had my eyes watering profusely. At that point, the medical assistant came out and apologized and said they would now do a laser at no charge on my feet. It seemed like something may helped and I'm feeling it was the laser treatment. I just don't like his approach, to twist me from what I was wanting and I did some research after the fact and found that I should have had an anesthesia sprayed on my feet to help with the excruciating pain of the shock wave therapy. Horrible experience! Update: Now this Dr Shih comes back with I came in wanting care covered by my insurance. This IS NOT TRUE! I knew that laser treatments are NOT covered by insurance. He just wants to try and defend himself. The first podiatrist (the only one I saw before him) didn't provide laser treatments and I have found a much better podiatrist! read more

I saw Dr. Zainalab the optometrist who was able to see me much faster than my PCP to rule out a retinal detachment Vs Vitreous floaters. She is extremely through in her examination and uses video to review her findings. She explains things at a level the average person can understand. Head to Toe is out of Network for me and the receptionist/ tech was very conscious about investigating my insurance options . I just self payed. In other review I might discuss our healthcare system and reimbursement being more important than providing healthcare. A retinal detachment is a medical emergency leading to blindness just like the symptoms of chest pain might indicate a major cardiac event. $200 bought a piece of mind and was worth the cost to have such competent provider . read more

After seeing their ads on television, and having some numbness in my right foot from an L5/S1 disc issue, I thought I would try this place. I went in December on the 20th, and was hooked up to some pressure measurement, but was not told why or whether this was optional, or what the price was going to be. I figured it's something they need to test to see what my treatment would be. I met with the Doctor who examined me, and he suggested some Vitamins that had to be prescribed, and could only be obtained from some company in another state. It was $150.00 for a 3 month supply of these "vitamins" On top of that, I received a shot. They wanted me to come back the next week. After providing my insurance at the beginning, and having paid my $50.00 co pay, I was then asked to pay another $311.30 - and when i asked why, I was told something about my deductible not being met and that they didn't know how much of the visit was covered by my insurance. I thought... $361.30 to have you do a pressure test and a shot? Needless to say, I didn't go back the next week, nor did I buy the Vitamins. As of today, 20 days later, United has no record of my claim, and HTT said they are having issues billing my insurance. The place is clean, the Doctor is professional, but it did nothing for me, still have a numb foot. My suggestion is find out before you see the doctor what it's going to cost you for a consultation, because I had no idea it was going to cost me close to $400.00 to tell me what I already know. I'd make sure you can decline anything you don't want, and confirm your insurance will cover this treatment. The Vitamins may be good, who knows, but $150.00 for vitamins seems excessive, even prescription vitamins. read more

The Podiatrist was fine. The problem was that the optometrist located in the same office was also married to the podiatrist and as a bonus runs the office. She entered the exam room uninvited to argue about fees while my recently operated on foot was exposed as the doctor examined it. I found this to be very rude, and a violation of my privacy, I felt exposed. The doctor said nothing to intervene so perhaps it is not an uncommon occurrence? read more

I had almost the exact experience reported by Mr. P. Dr. Shih came in with syringes ready to inject before even talking to me and then injected the side of my foot that wasn't hurting. Not surprisingly, it did not help. I was pushed to get their custom inserts and a walking boot - neither of which were necessary. I went to another podiatrist and got an injection in the correct area and got better. Not to mention that the office manager insisted that I pay for the treatment even though I knew I only had a $40 copay. I was told that I could pay (over $600) and if the insurance paid, I would be reimbursed. I was not allowed to see the doctor until I called my insurance from the exam room and had the office manager speak with them. She then begrudgingly agreed that I only had a $40 copay. This office is a SCAM!! They are VERY concerned with what your insurance will pay and "prescribe" based on that. I have been seeing Dr. Z for a little over 10 years and I can no longer recommend her services. On my last visit she had a very difficult time knowing what contact lenses to give me being that she said I had a astigmatism in my right eye. After getting some trials to try, I could not see clear at all and my right eye was seeing double with the lenses so I told her they will not work for me. I also told her my left eye prescription was too strong and I asked her to put it back to -3.50 for my left eye. So, I had to go back for another appointment and she just wrote me another prescription for my old contact lens brand (without ever checking my eyes again for any mistakes that were made) but this time making my right eye a Toric lens instead of an astigmatism lens. Well, when I got my lens I ordered from home the right Toric lens was all distorted still, so I ended up putting my left prescription lens (regular lenses) in both eyes and I now see just fine with my contacts!!! So how did my prescription go so wrong? But wait it gets worse with my eye glass prescription! She said I needed Progressive glasses and when I got those, everything was too distorted and not the correct prescription for me at all. I called Dr. Z and told her something was not right with my eye glass prescription and she told me I will need to get use to them. I said, things look overlapped in my right eye so I cannot force myself to get use to that when my single vision prescription from 2020 is still perfect for me. So, I asked her if I return the glasses could she please just return my Progressives back to my July 2020 single vision prescription and she said "Sure, I can do that". Three weeks later I go to pick up my prescription and try them on and immediately knew it was the same prescription just without the Progressive part, she did not go back to my old one from 2020 as we discussed on the phone or at least the glasses didn't look that way. I have another pair of glasses with the 2020 prescription in them at home and they are very different when I compared. So I went home because the Dr. was with a patient and the only front girl staff was from the the Foot Doctor part and was no help. I went home and called Dr. Z's office that same day which was Friday June, 11th and spoke with Monica and I asked Monica to check what prescription my news glasses were from and she said 2021 and I told her Dr. Z was suppose to return my prescription back to my 2020 prescription and Monica checked and said they had no past prescriptions on me in the computer AT ALL! What happen to my eye exam history? Monica took notes and said she would have Dr. Z call me back. Well, today is Monday evening June 14th and I still have not heard from Dr. Z. I am asking for a full refund on my glasses when I return them. Also, the office for the eye department is extremely short staffed and Dr. Z has to do just about everything and this is why she probably got my prescription wrong! You have to make an appointment to pick up glasses, get glasses adjusted, it's so inconvenient. I'm disappointed in the lack of honesty. If you don't have my past prescriptions on file, tell me! UPDATE: My husband called Dr. Z today June15th as she never returned my call and she said I could not return my eye glasses for a refund even if my prescription doesn't work for me. I'm not sure if the prescription is wrong or if their lab does poor work but either way I am stuck with a pair of glasses I can't use. Think about getting your glasses some where else! I will be disputing the charge with my bank and contacting my insurance company! read more

I went to see Dr. Shih due to pain in the bottom of my right foot. Upon entering the office, the staff seemed very polite and eager to help! They gave me a small gift for coming to their office, a personalized letter of welcome (this actually really impressed me) and showed me where the waiting room was along with beverages. I had the distinct feeling of almost a spa atmosphere! Dr. Shih was very polite, to the point and addressed every one of my concerns and questions. It's also worth noting that I too work in the healthcare field, and this office has some of the most state of the art equipment I've ever seen. After an X-Ray, ultra-sound, and laser treatment, Dr. Shih prescribed a couple of orthotics to help with my issue. Dr. Z an optometrist who also shares the office with Dr. Shih has a practice here as well. On my way out I browsed the frames and set up an appointment for an eye exam as well. I will definitely return to Head To Toe Healthcare! VERY impressive! read more

I started going to Head to Toe Healthcare on alternate Tuesdays since I live 47 miles from their office after seeing their TV ad which promised unprecedented relief from neuropathy pain. Turns out my dog knows more about Neuropathy. Dr. Shih waited two whole months before billing my insurance company because he probably knew that I would not stand for $145.00 injections of 'protein and anesthesia' being billed as 'surgery' per foot. Each office visit lasted less than 10 minutes and the Neuropathy sign on the front door looked as if it had been recently painted on to get on board the medical Neuropathy band wagon. Like most of the 'medical/prescription' ads on TV...if it sounds too good to be true, it is! This country has the most expensive healthcare in the world for some of the worst treatments and Shih is a full on contributor to this sad fact every day his office is in business. I found it impossible to post a review on the actual Head to Toe Healthcare Website which can only mean that the five star reviews on the site were posted by members of the office. read more

I'm a two tour of duty Vietnam Veteran with severe peripheral vascular disease and neuropathy. I was really beginning to have difficulty walking any distance without severe foot pain. Dr. Shih suggested that I get five sessions of deep tissue sound therapy. I did, and I'm very glad that I did. I waited a few months after the treatments so that I could give a fair assessment of the effectiveness of the treatment. Today, I can walk miles without foot pain. Furthermore, all the night cramps I had in my lower legs and feet, which had greatly interrupted my sleep, are completely gone. My wife noticed that the paleness of my lower legs and feet are now nice and pink with greatly improved blood flow. My only concern about these treatments is why I waited so long to get them. My quality of life has greatly improved. Also, the circulation of my legs and feet has greatly improved. I highly recommend getting these treatments. As a caution, my first treatment was a little uncomfortable. However, the four succeeding treatments became less uncomfortable with each session. It all boils down to that it was worth a little discomfort with that first treatment in order to be where I am, today, with my calves and feet. If you're suffering as I was, then I highly recommend that you go to Dr. Shih and let him help you. These treatments really work and are worth every penny. Oh! I'm also an RN with over 40 years of experience and I don't recommend anything lightly. I have to know that something works, before I give it my recommendation. read more

Dr. Z and her staff are excellent! I had a very thorough exam with very high-tech equipment. The doctor took her time and did a great job of explaining what was going on with my vision. She even answered questions about what was covered by my insurance. The staff that helped with the ordering of my lenses was super friendly, very knowledgeable and thorough in explaining what my insurance covered and what my estimated out of pocket costs would be. Don't get me wrong the staff are nice people with great personalities but if it's anything more complex than an ingrown toe nail I would NOT recommend going here. I had an ingrown procedure done and I ended up getting an infection. They did the procedure again causing me to lose even more of my nail than I really needed too and once again I still had the infection. After about two months of going back to the doctor each week he told that he didn't know what else to do and said he was at a lost when he specializes in feet. I needed up having to go to my primary care doctor and then to another podiatrist. A little concerning that a doctor who specializes in feet was at a lost. read more

I made an appointment for my 20 year old son, who was experiencing bad foot pain due to prolonged standing on a daily basis. We had purchased a pair of $40 insoles, which helped a lot, so I encouraged him to go to this Podiatrist and have a pair custom fitted. He was very concerned about the price because we have such a high deductable on our insurance, which he explained to the people who worked there. They went over the price and agreed upon around $450. When my son saw the doctor, he asked him where the pain was and my son told him the spots where it hurt when the doctor pressed on him. The Doctor proceeded to mark the spots with pen dots. He then left the room and came back with two shots, which he injected into my son, without explaining what he was doing. My son never agreed to this and just assumed that it was part of the treatment. Again, when he returned to do the casting of the insoles, the doctor asked him if he was still having pain and he said that his feet were still hurting. The Doctor left and returned with shots again. At this time, my son wanted to tell him, no, but he did not. On the the third visit, he just picked up his insoles and did not see the doctor. A few weeks later we received a bill for over $1000! We immediately called and complained about this and were told that we had to pay extra for the injections (Which were NEVER discussed or he definitely would have refused)!! After explaining what happened, they just told me there was nothing the could do since my son received the injections. They did offer to give us a discount, but said I had to pay it in full that day. We still had to pay almost $900 for insoles which were quoted around $450. We will not be using this practice or recommending them to anyone we know! read more

Dr Z was very friendly. I came from Chicago needing a tweak in my contacts. I told the office staff I did not need a complete $200 examination. When I arrived, Dr Z was intent to use all her new equipment. After a full examination she came me contacts that were worse than the ones I walked in with. They did not have any other test lens, but ordered some other trial lens. 3 days later i was called to pick up 2 sets of trial lens. I ordered the ones that seemed best. They charged 30% more than I am charged from the small private practice in Chicago and then ordered the wrong lens. When I returned them and said I plan on ordering from my Chicago office, the manager came out and told me, "Read the contact, no returns! And added they are a small practice and need to make money." They got my money, but lost me as a patient. read more

I had a great experience with Dr.Z, I had not had an eye exam in 10 years and what I remember of that eye exam it was very basic.Here my eyes were checked thoroughly and every step explained. No pressure about buying frames, they were very conscious of respecting your budget. Very nice experience, I certainly recommend them to anyone! read more

I have to agree with Joseph on this practice. I need a good podiatrist for my family so.... after reading Joseph's review I decided to schedule an appt for myself with this physician Dr. Shih. The environment is very welcoming, the staff is very patient and understanding. There is a huge focus on customer service and helping patients understand their condition, how to improve their health and prevent further problems. Patients are presented with ALL available options, pro's and cons of each treatment including information on if an insurance is likely to cover expenses or not. I am also a medical provider and I love the idea that patients who come here are learning about their health, what all of their options are and the medical staff helps patients make informed decisions. I am an advocate of patients taking charge of their health and working with healthcare professionals as part of the health team to achieve the best health outcomes possible. I also like that Dr. Shih take the approach of being as aggressive as necessary but not throwing the entire arsenal at a problem if it is not warranted. I would give the practice an A+ on approach to treatments and efforts towards preventative healthcare. Great Job and thank you Joseph for sending me and my family his way. read more

Saw Dr. Shih for a second opinion re: previous Dr.'s suggestion required surgery for my problems: hammer toes 8 of 'em, one very pronounced bunion left foot, rt foot bunion w/pain but not so pronounced, and heel pain and swelling. Dr. Shih's office is set up for immediate xray, and diagnosis....his opinion was much more conservative than immediate surgery in approaching my problems.... which I appreciated. Treatment....injections at nerve sites to alleviate the swelling and pain, orthotic inserts ordered for both feet, and a laser treatment in the most painful foot, and recommendation that I switch from walking 4 miles/daily to swimming to alleviate aggravation from a heel bone spur (in office x-ray showed this) where the achilles tendon attaches. SO.....next day after treatment, NO LIE, my feet felt 100% better! Now, I have taken his suggestions wearing an air brace on the right foot all day at home (purchased in his office and useable immediately) and within a week the fitted orthotics had arrived for me to start using. My husband accompanied me on these visits, and we enjoyed Dr. Shih's sense of humor, but even more, his professionalism and his conservative approach to solving my problems. I would recommend him highly. And he will be my foot Dr. from now on. read more

I will never go back and would not recommend Dr. Z to anyone! I first went into the office at the end of November and they tried to tell me I had to pay for the contact lens exam/fitting out of pocket which was not correct. I called my insurance company from their office and finally got out of there without having to pay for the "fitting." I was not supposed to pay for anything until I filled the prescription. They gave me trial packs of contact lenses to be sure they had the prescription right on two separate occasions. They never did get the right prescription, so I finally gave up! They also gave me a prescription for Progressive lens glasses. I asked since the contact prescription was so far off, would the glasses be off as well and they assured me they would be fine. I took the prescription to Costco to have it filled and, I'm sure, they were not happy about that, because they charge about 4 times the price Costco does. Long story short, the prescription is NOT right and of course they want me to pay a copay because it's been over 30 days since my last appointment. I can see better without the glasses than I can with them! As far as the optometrist's part of this practice, my advice would be don't bother. read more
