i came into the salon and had a consultation with a colorist. I explained what I was looking for And after I THOUGHT that I was heard, I booked an appointment. I had brassy blond grow out with very ashy natural roots. I brought pictures of what I was looking for and explained that I wanted to go blond with dimensions. The service took about 4 hours. After it was done, I didn't want to complain, because I figured I would like it better in natural light. Over the next 2 weeks, I kept feeling like something was off. The tone was wrong for my coloring. I looked washed out. No one, including my boyfriend thought that it looked blond. I called to come back in to maybe have her retone my hair. When I got in and tried to explain what I wanted, all I got was a perplexed look and no suggestions. I told her that she did a good job, but that the tone was wrong but her response felt more like she was trying to prove her own point. I was hoping for a professional recommendation to suit what I wanted. I kept saying that my tone was off, too cool. The stylist spent so much time explaining that my hair couldn't handle more highlights which I get, but she Did Not communicate that she was seeing and understanding what I wanted. It got to the point where she didn't even have time to take me that day, a wasted trip from Factoria and then back to Mercer island. I was going away the next day so I didn't have time to come back. By the way, in addition to the lack of professionalism, the woman at the front desk had anything but a genuine welcoming approach and was actually quite snotty. Long story short, I left unsatisfied and unheard after a $350 Service! I ended up going to a place in Bellevue where in 5 minutes the gal heard me. She said that the tone was off for my skin tone. A clean, professional salon located in U Village -- it was super easy to schedule an appointment via phone and the folks at the front desk were really sweet when checking in. The pricing is fairly reasonable, but maybe a bit of a splurge. That being said, they did a really nice job! I had Amari do a cut and color, specifically highlights. I had some old highlights that had grown out and she was able to color-match so the old and new colors blended together well. She was also super patient with me as I figured out which hair length made the most sense and I was really happy with the final product. Overall, a great experience from start to finish and I would totally see myself coming back here -- was recommended by my roommate who's had similarly good experiences here too! read more

I hope someone will be saved from a traumatized hair experience by reading this review. I went to the salon for a solid balayage, my hair is Asian natural black but I have been getting bleach and balayage for years (obviously not from this place). Had my hair done by stylist named Chester. Before the session: my hair was straight, same length, I have never had layers since my hair is already thin. My top was black since I last had my hair done in mid January. The process took 3 hours. After the session: the top I had it done, I lost half of the ends, it just fell off, there is now layers on my hair. The bleach was done terribly so it caused breakage and my hair was just gone. My hair is now unevenly colored, brittle and super dry. I went to the salon to speak to the owner, she and her manager Jared insisted my hair is not damaged and blamed it on growing out unevenly?!! I was really upset since my wedding is literally next month and I am now having to live with this damaged hair, they offered to refund me 50% but I requested full refund since I should not have to pay for them for damaging my hair. They didnt agree to it so now I am filing complaint with BBB, small court claim, the University Village business management. read more

Excellent salon! Go and see Chester you wont be sorry! She is absolute amazing stylist and colorist. Personable and she listens to her Clients. She was trained in California and worked down there before relocating to Seattle. I have seen her three times now and have never been disappointed. She is the only stylist I can attest to, however, I wont go to anyone but her now. Her prices are very reasonable and she explains the process on what she is doing every step of the way. First of all, I'm super picky about how my hair is cut and colored. So after the first time Chester did my hair I knew that I would never let anyone else touch my hair again. The color came out amazing, and looked healthier. Chester also cut and styled my hair and gave me exactly what I asked for. Again it's hard for me to trust someone with my hair. I plan on letting her take creative liberties with my hair and I'm excited to see what she comes up with. I will continue with Chester because a talented and realistic hair stylist isn't something you find every day. read more

Had a wonderful appt with Carolyn - I'm always nervous about first time haircuts at a salon because of my curly hair. Carolyn immediately put me at ease, listened to my needs - cutting dry to maintain length - and was a shear wizard with the layering after the wash! Went here for my first haircut in two years. Christine was very gentle with my hair! She knew that I did not usually go in for trims, and tailored my bob towards my style. Cutting off 18 inches of hair to donate has never been easier. She made sure she got to cut as much off as possible in one swoop, allowing me to donate the fullest amount. Christine turned a hair coloring mishap into something beautiful and amazing! What she did was what I initially wanted. Five days ago, I went to a different salon, and came out with yellow ends that had no depth and was too harsh for me. I had wanted a more ashy color. I made an appointment with Christine at Headlines Salon at University Village. I've walked by it for so many years, and decided to give them a call. The receptionist was extremely helpful and nice. It's always a good sign when that happens! I showed her pictures, she listened to me, was patient, gave me options, and explained to me what she was doing as she was doing it. Another good sign! What is even more amazing and made me know I was in great hands, was that Christine's hair and coloring is so pretty and it turns out...she does her own hair!! As well as one of the receptionist's hair, which I was going to compliment her hair when I first got there, and ask who did it. Turns out...Christine. I would definitely recommend her for anything you need done with your hair. Especially, like me, if you had a bad hair experience, she can fix everything. Christine is the best. Hands down. I have struggled for years trying to find someone who knows how to work with my thick, mixed Asian hair. Christine is the kind of stylist who pays attention to your TYPE of hair and the way that it grows and cuts it accordingly. Plain and simple, Christine knows what she's doing and I will never go anywhere else unless she's there. My hair was about down to my hips and I decided to cut a lot off to donate. Christine cut 10 inches and I can't even believe it because it's still so long! She got rid of a lot of weight simply by adding layers. Like I said, Christine knows her stuff and advised against thinning my hair out with thinning shears because of how frizzy my hair would get when it grows back out. A couple of weeks ago, I went to a stylist in Olympia and had the worst hair experience I've ever had. After almost 7 hours, my hair was fried, yellow and purple, and my scalp badly damaged. Knowing I couldn't wear a hat every day until my hair was ready to be fixed, I called Headlines and Brae got my in that day unbelievably. I didn't have high expectations, I just wanted to look less ridiculous. What she was able to do was nothing short of amazing. I went here for corrective color and came out with an amazing cut and color I would have been ecstatic under normal circumstances! She was fun, confident, caring, helpful, and a true artist. I feel unjustified giving it one star, seeing as I have only seen one of the many stylists and only had a bang trim. However, my experience today was a generous 1-star experience at best. All that I wanted was simple bangs. So simple. Long thick bangs, cut straight across, I will push them to the side, thank you. Bill was my stylist, we sat down, first thing, "I see a gray hair!" Yep, I'm older than I look, thanks for noticing. I tell him what I want, "Oh, I am so tired of those, let me do something sexier, I am going to do a full bang." Well that's what I wanted, and showed you, so yes, that's okay. Oh look, you are cutting them way shorter than I asked. He told me he was going to add some texture. Other stylists had done this before because I have thick hair, but not like that. Then he started to look at the rest of my hair, "what's this here?" Me, "Sorry, i had a ponytail today." Him: "hmph." This was my first time coloring my hair and she did a really good job of making it looks like a natural summer glow or color. I showed her a couple pictures of what o wanted to start and said I specifically wanted some framing of color around my face and she did exactly that! The fade of color from my root to base looked very even and natural and still does. She also managed to keep the texture of my hair feeling really healthy after and it still feels really nice. From the subpar customer service to low-grade quality haircuts this place cruelly disappoints. I had several opportunities to get my hair cut there by a few stylists. When one hears things such as "... and that's why I being paid big bucks" and at the end gets an average cut, one wonders why not to switch to another stylist. Fortunately, getting an appointment with a different stylist (less of a self-satisfaction but no aptitude for a decent haircut) made me realize what this place is - a total lackluster experience. read more

I originally had a brown-caramel Balayage and the color were turning brassy/copper, which was the reason why I wanted to get it fixed. I was scheduled with Brook, explaining to her and showed her numerous pictures of what I wanted and hopefully in her "professional" hairstylist stand point, she would be able to shed some lights on few ideas and recommendation on different options that I can chose from that looks good.But, Instead she foiled top-half of my hair bleached it to ashy blonde, while the bottom half were still dark rooted with brassy balayage. At the end of the process, she did not tone it long enough nor left it long enough that you can see different shades of color of my roots. So, she technically gave me a "clown wig". If you are going to get a Balayage, please reconsider someone who can make decisions on what would work best! I had to color my hair elsewhere the next day to get it fixed asap, bc I was ashamed to walk around with a bad hair color. read more

I got a haircut here and I wasn't too happy with it. The hairdresser cut it much shorter than I wanted. That's still fine, it'll grow back. What I was really annoyed with was that when cutting my hair in the front - the hairdresser cut the hair directly on top of my head instead of measuring and then moving it to the side so the pieces wouldn't fall on me. My hair is long enough to move away from the top of my head. And so when I got home I had little pieces of hair everywhere. They kept falling as I moved my head. Simply said, Professional, talented, passionate colorist! Brae brought my hair back to life! Brae sees coloring as an art and she has mastered her art! I have the blackest black hair and had a previous blonde job done by another shop that I was never happy. It lacked dimension and was way too brassy from the start. Months went by and I decided I needed to seek out a professional. Im happy I decided to pop into the salon and ask questions. Brae made me feel comfortable as she listened and answered all my questions/concerns. She explained all the steps she was taking along the way. Bummer experience... Brae did my hair and all of my foils were off the root about 1/4-1/2 and inch with significant lines where I part my hair. I called and was scheduled for a touch up to correct it by another stylist as Brae was out of town. This stylist wasn't able to lift it because my hair was so over processed and so I spent 2 additional hours in the chair for no better outcome. Brae said I was fortunate to be getting even a 50% refund. I'm not sure how salons typically handle this but I'm left feeling burned and my hair is damaged to boot. read more

Avoid this salon if you are Asian. I naturally have brown hair, and my ends was yellowish faded from previous color. I wanted ashy brown, but the color turned out blue and black, even darker than my natural hair. I went to the salon twice and dyed three times in total, spending more than 3 hours. I'm very upset with the color now, but I couldn't even put other color on it because I was told you cant put light color on darker color. Now the color is not only ugly but extremely uneven. The bang is darker than other parts and it looks very unnatural. read more
