For those of us that have to plan to commit a good 4-5 hours for a dimensional cut and color, Rose is worth the time and her space is peaceful, calm, and clean. She's incredibly thoughtful with how she approaches color and works with you to make sure it's just right. It's always worth the investment because her color and cut always grow out great! I got my hair done with Tara back in July and it was the worst hair color and stylist experience I've had. This was my first time seeing Tara. I initially requested a consult, but she said she wasn't doing those, so I emailed her pictures of my hair and my inspiration for my balayage appointment. I had all-over color over old balayage with lots of red and coppery tones, which I wanted to freshen and liven up to "caramelly and sun-kissed". She suggested a "color correction" but never explained what this was. At the salon, I reiterated that I wanted caramel, sun-kissed hair/balayage, and that I liked the tones of my hair, just wanted it to feel fresh. Never did I say I wanted it darker or cooler. She said she got it, and went about mixing color. Not once did she explain what her process for "color correction" would be, that it would require multiple visits, and that I would walk out with my hair looking nothing like what I requested. She was also not very friendly. I don't expect a stylist to blab with me for 3 hours, but some general interest in your clients would be nice when you're dropping hundreds of dollars. The only dialogue that was exchanged was "where do you live?", which was a question initiated by me. She didn't converse, not even about what she was doing to my hair. There was zero interest in retaining me as a client. Cut to when my hair is done, and it's awful. DARK brown base color including a chunk on the underside by my neck, with streaky blonde "balayage" that is gray/ashy/green-toned and doesn't look painted or sun-kissed at all -- see photos. When I started to question it in the chair, she said that I would need to "give it a couple of days, trust her" (??? shouldn't I be leaving the salon happy, not waiting a couple of days?) and hurried me to the register. I was kind and giving her the benefit of the doubt, and she took advantage of that just to get my money and go. I went home and shared my hair with my partner and friends (several who are stylists) and they were all shocked at how terrible it was, especially considering what I asked for. I texted Tara about my hesitations and dissatisfaction with the hair, and she sent me a highly defensive, passive aggressive, and unprofessional novel of a text. She borderline shamed me about the state of my hair when I came in, even though I've been getting it professionally done for years. She told me that I should "try curling it" to like it. She even stated that she had been hesitant to do my hair and actually didn't think what I wanted was achievable, and almost didn't accept my appointment, but withheld that information from me and still proceeded to do my hair. This is so unacceptable. If she had communicated to me any hesitancy about doing my hair, I would've been thrilled at the honesty -- I don't want someone not confident doing my hair. If she felt like she couldn't deliver the results I wanted, she absolutely should have communicated that. But she didn't express any of this when I was sitting in her chair. She acted like we were completely on the same page. Her "remedy" was to offer a toning, right after she suggested we "might not be the right fit". I obviously did not feel at all comfortable returning to see her. She offered a 50% refund (which I never received), stating "policies" don't allow her to fully refund me, however considering her extreme lack of professionalism, ability to own up to her poor communication and delivery, and the fact that I had to pay hundreds of dollars to undo what she did, a full refund should've been given. She is in charge of her own business, so it's not her policies, it's her refusal to refund me. I've been to stylists from hair schools to Robert Leonard, and all of the above were better than this experience with Tara. I've had beautiful balayage done when my hair looked similar to my before photo, and not once did the other stylist do a color correction or act like it was undoable. I recognize it was likely an off experience for her, but that shouldn't be my burden, and she should've made it right by admitting her fault and refunding me. Instead, she just fought me. I've since shared this experience and Tara's texts with other hair stylists, and they are always floored by her lack of professionalism, humility, and talent. Oh and by the way, the hair didn't get any "better" after 48 hours -- it stayed dark, ashy, and gray -- one of my friends likened it to an anime character. read more

She took my hair from a mid-length "do" to a cute short pixie with just enough edge but I don't look like a mean old lady (or an angry bird...or like I need to speak tot he manager) - I always walk out feeling 100 times better! I've been getting my hair cut by Tara at Salon Opal for a few years now. The salon is gorgeous! It's apparent that the stylists really take ownership and pride in curating a beautiful space where you can relax and unwind. Tara knows exactly how to make her guests feel at ease. I have recommended her to a few friends and they have all said the same. She gives the best shampoo head rubs and the whole experience feels so much more personal and special than your typical salon appointment. It really is such a treat! Being new to Seattle I had to start from zero, seeing an array of salons to choose from Im so happy I just followed my gut. Tara did my hair and from the get go you can sense her warm spirit and made me feel so welcomed! The Salon itself is soo cute, clean and inviting. We went through some swatches and Pinterest ideas and she knew exactly what color I wanted. I went from copper to something less maintenance and I love it. A wine/brown is what I wanted and got. She styled it and my curls stayed well into the next day (never happens). It was such a nice treat she offered me water and coffee and there is some goodies for sell in the front desk area. Cute hair clips and towels with Olaplex stuff for sale. It is easy to find and they do have a parking lot! I will come back again to get a touch up with her! I have been getting my hair cut and colored by Tara for over 5 years. My first color was light brown/dark blond violet gold. It was gorgeous and and I received so many compliments. It was my first experience with balayage that I loved and with understanding how a toner works and that my hair would lighten more over the next few weeks. The next time I visited her I told her I wanted to go blonde. She talked to me about the color she had done last time and what the process was like to do it well and that it would take at least several times. While my hair wasn't as blonde as I had envisioned, once again it was gorgeous and I quickly booked my next appointment with her to go lighter. I am typically a twice a year color client but I went 3 times over the next 3 months and I was never disappointed. She knew that I was nervous after a traumatizing brassy blonde experience from years ago with another stylist. At one point over the years, I made the foolish decision to use a color shampoo to go "rose pink". I never felt shame and she patiently worked with my hair to correct what I had so badly messed up! Tara is up front about her policies and they are more than fair. She also goes above and beyond when something isn't exactly as preferred, far more than most I've experienced. Tara is methodical and a master of her craft. After one appointment, I was happy but she noticed something that I wouldn't have and asked me to come back because she wasn't quite happy with the result (for which I wasn't charged). What a gift to have a stylist who cares so much about her clients that she would be the one to share with me that she needed to see me again. Each experience is like a therapy/spa session all rolled into one. She is so personable and kind and also gives space and even has the option for a silent treatment, which is so considerate since she doesn't get that option herself! If I think back to the first few appointments, while we didn't know each other at all before, she was kind, thoughtful and interactive. I have sent many friends her way and they have experienced the same. I have joked that if she ever moves I'm following...or taking vacations several times a year. About a year and a half ago I started searching for a hairstylist that I could trust to take my virgin brunette hair to a an all over cool blonde. I definitely wasn't going to trust just anyone because I knew it'd be a process and a lot of money. I had consultations with several other people who left me feeling really hesitant. Thankfully, I stumbled across Rose and was extremely happy with my consultation and, ultimately, service. Even after the first session when the color wasn't exactly what I wanted, Rose was quick to get me rebooked and help get me to the shade I was hoping for. She has always been so sweet and quick to answer any of my questions or concerns along the way.
