Just went in for a cut and told them I simply needed a shorter version of what I had. Not sure what his name was but the barber literally cut the top of my head too short and left a spot like I am losing hair. Dude didn't speak English so the other guy helped translate and said that part was sticking out when he was cutting it. Then he proceeded just told me to brush and gel my hair at a certain angel when I go out. I thought the point of getting a haircut is make your haircut look better, not worse. I moved to the city from SF and landed at a place in Washington Heights around the corner from Groom Team. Vlad was the first guy who cut my hair in the city--and is still the best. The guy is an artist, and Ive never had another barber pay so much attention to the finest details. He's also one of the few I've been to who really knows how to shape a beard. Ive since moved downtown and tried a bunch of other places, but grabbing a $100 cut elsewhere doesn't compare to Vlad's $25. I got the laziest haircut I've ever had in my life. I needed a haircut asap and my usual barber was out of town. I figured it's pretty hard to screw up a simple shape up and fade. First, there was a whole back and forth between the barbers about if someone was free or not. I almost walked out then - if you don't want my money then fine. The barbed after deciding to accept me said, " I don't wanna take your money," - referring to how short my hair was. I told him I just wanted a really simple trim, Shape up and fade. I get a haircut every single week. There's always hair to be cut. The guy took less then ten minutes and barely did anything. He asked me if I wanted anything else and didn't offer a hand mirror so I could see the back. It was so dark in there I couldn't even see what my hair looked like. I left and walked out in the sun to realize how little he actually did. I'm going to have to get another haircut this week. Not to mention it was overpriced. read more

Dannyboy is an artist. Went in for my second cut here a couple months after my first and he remembered exactly what I wanted; since then he's been my go-to guy. Always takes care to make sure the folks waiting know exactly long a wait there is and how many others are ahead of them. It's a little pricy, but no other barber has known exactly how to deal with my hairline, and he handles my facial hair with a straight-up sculptor's precision. read more

After living in the Heights for 3ish years, I've now gotten to the point where I can't go anywhere else but Groom Team for my haircuts. I live pretty much across the street, but unlike most any other place I've gone, a Groom Team haircut leave no stone (or hair) unturned. The guys there are all personable, professional, and willing to go all out to make sure you get the cut you want. I only go to Victor because he's always good to me and in my opinion he gives the best cut there, but I'm sure the others are good too. Wish it was a little bit less expensive, hence the 4 stars, but this ain't supercuts, and for the convenience of it being so close for me combined with the amount of attention you get there, Groom Team is well worth it. read more

It's not the cheapest in the area but Dannyboy does an excellent job and makes it well-worth the additional $5-$10 that I spend on a haircut here as opposed to some of the other places that are a little less-expensive. As is the case with most barbershop, a lot depends on which chair you get. I can't speak from experience with any of the other barbers here (although I'm sure they're good) but Danny gets five starts. read more

I just went here for the first time, because I urgently needed someone to fix an uneven haircut that I had gotten in a barber shop nearby. When I called, they were extremely helpful - it was almost their closing time, and my husband and I wanted to get a haircut at the same time... I believe my hairdresser even stayed later just in order to be able to accommodate me. Not only did Danny Boy (my hairdresser) do a great job fixing my bad haircut, I also had my 7 week old baby on my lap the entire time, and he was carefully working around him, my baby did not even wake up! I've been going to Groom Team regularly for the past year and a half that I've lived in the neighborhood. I only go to Victor because he does a great job and gives me the perfect cut every time. Victor is also friendly and personable. He does such a good job, that I've been willing to give Groom Team my business even though the atmosphere is made particularly homophobic due to the woman who works the front desk. She always makes me feel unwelcome. She gives me dirty looks, refuses to look me in the eye, and makes it very clear that my presence is unwanted. No one else who works there makes me feel that way, in fact, the other people who work there are really nice. So I started going there on Sunday mornings only, when that woman isn't working, in an attempt to avoid her completely. I'm always really nice to her and polite, but after my experience with her again today, I just can't support their business anyone. This is NYC for crying out loud, and I refuse to allow this woman to bully me any longer. I'm going to miss Victor's excellent faux-hawk. read more

Been going to grooteam for a few years and in the few years it has changed so much now they have a full team not only barbers also stylist, they have good service now not only for barbers they have full service salon to not only cut mens hair they also cut and style, color womens hair i think thats great, theres a gentlemen by the name of Peter his is great, his a great hairdresser been in the neighborhood for some years and now his with the team he gives it a touch of class in the business which it need it and also brought some other workers to the team to make a better business for the neighborhood, victor being the top barber of the salon does great work, so does all the stylist and barbers in the salon, front desk young lady by the name of ellie sweet and professional, im glad this salon is working on its fixer upper to make it a great salon for the neighborhood and comfortable for the client when they come in enjoy it people its a great place to get a great cut and style. read more
