The you will receive a bill for $400 for obscure charges . Health First (HF) does not have the same high standards of customer care that I get from Orlando Health. There seems to be no accountability for poor/bad performance. Many HF doctors are long in the tooth (old) and not up to date on current procedures. For example one surgeon insisted that I needed a cervical fusion when all I needed was a nerve ablation. Another HF pain doctor took 2 weeks to get a prescription to my pharmacy and then had an employee lie to me. Another time , a nerve block was incorrectly done which put me into a stupor for three weeks. Last example, a HF cardiologist wrote cardiac clearances for two procedures that I needed and the anesthesiologists refused to accept them. I got a copy of the internal HF Customer complaint process and the theme is deflect, deflect, deflect. I spoke with customer care manager Tiffany and she demonstrated how to deflect. They DO NOT want formal complaints to be filed. They don't really care like I have experienced at Orlando Health. Based on HF employee behavior, I suspect that HF uses fear to motivate their employees. Many of the doctors and support staff are incompetent. I have many examples. I try to go to Orlando Health whenever possible, or even better, drive to Orlando. Please be wary of Anything HF and get second opinions outside of HF. On the positive side, the HF MRI facility in Rockledge was excellent and the lab at Gateway is very efficient. Competency and Accountability are the HF weaknesses from my perspective. read more

The service was quick and the care I received at this office from all employees was unbelievable. We had an issue with the order from my father's doctor and the front desk ladies helped me figure out what we needed. If you have the appointment for Labs they'll move you right along. I definitely recommend you make the appointment for LabWork. You don't want to get stuck behind an elderly community busload... Staff is usually on time for appointments without excessive wait times for us. GP (ARNP) and the team that oversees my care is excellent. They are seriously under staffed. The doctors would may have a chance if they would just leave Healthfirst. They don't care about their staff nevertheless the patients. Health First themselves need to be shut down. I see a very huge lawsuit coming soon with them. There is no way they can continue running a practice like this and get away with it for long. Very happy with Dr. Schuyler Dejong and my knee surgery. I recently completed a comprehensive knee surgery that included serious work on my ACL and meniscus. Dr. Dejong executed a complete repair of all three and the results were top-notch. He explained the entirety of his work and provided ample pictures which are very helpful for any future follow-ups. As a military family, we often move between states, causing medical professionals to often feel the need to start over when arriving with recent surgeries or with ailments that have not been corrected yet. I have no doubt that the follow-up information provided will enable any future care managers to have an exact understanding of what happened, when the time comes to upload my medical records with them. I want to be clear that Dr. Dejong is a business-first person and focuses on doing the job right. My husband and I both felt that he was dedicated to doing a good job, and greatly appreciated that he seemed very straight-forward in his approach to the work on my knee. I prefer this to some surgeons that seem like they are focused on other things that frankly - don't matter. He also provided both strict and simple instructions for post-care that enabled me to have the fastest recovery of my life, meaning that function is returning quickly and my pain levels went away much faster than expected. While commenting, I'll go ahead and throw in that the medical team at the Melbourne Hospital and at his offices near Melbourne Airport were a complete pleasure to work with and set a great bar for customer concern. Health First is a LARGE all in one Health Club, Health Insurance Corp, Hospital System and Clinics. They tow the NIH-CDC-WHO-BIG PHARMA line. Their doctors treat you like cattle. There is NO personal investment in you as a human being. You are just income to them. Their doctors are not allowed to think for themselves or treat your illness. They merely medicate the symptoms and hope for the best. HF's Covid treatment is over the counter flu meds, steroids, and wait. It is akin to diagnosing you with stage one cancer, giving you anti-inflammation Rx, and telling you to go home until the cancer reaches stage four before they treat it. I saw HF gastrointestinal doc in June due to acid reflux/gerd and possible hietal hernia. The first available appointment was over two months wait. I waited the two months with at times, excruciating pain. TWO days before my scheduled appointment I get a call from doctors office my insurance denied the auth. I asked the phone rep why? She responded she did not know and I should have received a letter from my insurance. I had not. 4 days later I received the denial letter they denied the auth because my doctor told them I had abdominal pain!! WHAT?? I never had any abdominal pain, that is not the reason I saw the gastrointestinal doctor. I never told her I had any pain in my abdomen. Why would you request an auth for something I never complained of having?? On top of that i had asked the rep what do I do now since I can't have the Endoscopy, will she order a different test? Rep had no clue and said she'd ask the doctor and someone would call me. Well 4 days went by and I haven't heard from her office! Do better Health First!! read more

When I moved here 2 years ago I was in need of a medical group that I could go to. Through my work I was introduced to Health First at Gateway and I have not been disappointed. The staff are all friendly and welcoming no matter which branch you are going to for care. I enjoy that they have a patient portal that allows you to be able to message your doctor for something simple if you don't want to make an appointment. That being said the portal isn't always the most user friendly but you can tell they are working on some aspects of it. I've been very pleased with my doctors that I have through this medical group and am glad they take my insurance. read more

My son was discharged from the Holmes MC emergency room with a script but they never recorded the pharmacy, paperwork literally has a question mark where the pharmacy should be. I can't seem to get back touch with them. After two transfers I get a "sorry but the operator is not available. GI Dr referrals are out of date phone numbers are disconnected. I tried like 5 other GI docs in the network, nothing but leave a message and more roadblocks. What a train wreck. read more

Calling to book an apt was super easy no hassles and no being put on hold or hung up on. The lady who made my apt was very nice and got me to the right Dr. Dr "Scott" as they call him was really good. It was not just a routine visit. It was an emergency visit. I have been a Health First subscriber for just over a year. In the last 4 months I have decided to fire them. 1) In July of 2018 I tried making an appointment for a Dermatologist at the Gateway facility. They told me the best they could do was schedule me for a PA visit and that the earliest open appointment would be in November. Guess what...on the day of the appointment 11/16 I am told my PA was sick and I would have to reschedule. 2) On 11/1/2018 I met with a Health First Colonoscopy Dr Ruiz at the Palm Bay Hospital. He appeared very over-worked as I had to wait for 30 mins in a waiting room. He then scheduled my Colonoscopy for 11/14 and said I would receive a call 3-5 days before that for confirmation. I NEVER received that call. On 11/17/2018 I received a letter from Health First saying Dr Ruiz no longer works for them...leaving me in the lurch. 3) In July of 2018 my personal Doctor told me my PSA count was high and I needed to see a Urologist. I scheduled an appointment and again the Urologist said the best they could do was September and I made that appointment. In August I got call saying it had to rescheduled for January of 2019. All of this is terrible and reason enough to QUIT Health First! read more

We have lived in the area seven months and chose HealthFirst coverage. We have had appointments in just about every section of the Gateway location. We are continuously and consistently impressed. The people are all positive and friendly. The appointments are always on time or early if you arrive early. The location is clean and very well organized. Having had poor experiences with wait times at other Dr's offices in the past, we are blown away with the service here. We have also done bloodwork at the A1A location. HIGHLY recommend any service across the HealthFirst providers and especially the Gateway location. Much thanks to them for making all of it such a pleasure !!! read more

I moved to Palmbay a year and a half ago. Live right down the road from the health first office , thought it would be easy. Nothing is easy with health first asked to see a doctor and got a PA which was fine. She was excellent. That's where excellent stops. The people behind the counter were not helpful or peaceful to talk to, my last appointment I sat for an hour and a half and no one said anything about them being late. When I asked, they told me they were missing people so my PA had to take their work. I missed two hours of work that day for a simple follow up appointment, if you call them you wait on hold for up to an hour and most of the time they can't answer any questions. It is a Dr. mill that puts people volume ahead of peoples care. I strongly recommend trying to find a doctor that is not part of their company, unfortunately they are everywhere. I've changed doctors. Her cost is much much less than Health's first. And I can afford to visit when I need to. They should be called money first. read more

If i could give 0 stars i would. i only had one appointment here confirming my pregnancy. When i called to make my appointment the FIRST thing i asked was if they took my insurance and they said yes! After the first appointment they failed to get blood work done. There billing called me two separate times to tell me i owed $4,000 for a labor fee and that i needed to give that to them by my seventh month of pregnancy and that i owed $2000 for another reason. To top it all off 4 days before my next appointment i got a call that they didn't take my insurance and could no longer see me. this is my first pregnancy and i did not realize it would be so hard to find a DECENT ob. read more

I have received no less than 6 separate invoices from a single visit and that doesn't count the two I have from the hospitalist from that very same visit who only takes mailed checks. Guys, get your stuff together. Not happy with Health First. They did not take the time to fully take into consideration how I was feeling. I was in a lot of pain but the practitioner I had acted like she had better things to do and did not take the time to ask questions and sit down and treat me like a human. Long story short, I got sicker by going the way she wanted me to go which was to take antibiotics. I should of been prescribed diflucan. I lost my job and sadly it might even come to me losing my house. I don't have the financial stability I used to cause now all my money is going towards paying the Health First bills I have. Noone at the company has even tried to reach out to me to see how I am doing or what they can do to make better what has happened to me. I feel I am nothing but a bill to them. They aren't sick so why should they care that I am? I have to watch what I eat or I get flare ups. I don't get proper sleep anymore. I am in pain everyday. I plead and call them asking for help and I am ignored everytime. I call and am assured I will get called back but they never do. I did get a call last week assuring something would be done but no call back since and since this is now the Holiday I doubt I will be getting a call back this week. I will not make the first move to call. THEY should be calling me back. Why don't the nurses and doctors at Health First call the patients? Don't they care how we are doing? We take the time to see you and basically put our life in your hands so it would be nice to think they care and want to know how we are doing. Why should I be in pain? Don't I deserve a chance at life and happiness? I am upset that Health First does not want to try to help me. I am reaching out to them but I feel I am in the ocean flailing my arms and trying not to drown and they are in the lifeboat just watching me and shrugging their shoulders and waiting till I stop moving. read more

I have been a patient of Health First since it was MIMA (over 20 years). When it was MIMA, I loved going there. I could get in to see my primary care with little wait time. Since Health First took over, it is weeks and sometimes months before I can get an appointment with my primary care physician. I have seen the NOW clinic people more times in the past 3-5 years than I have my primary care physician. While I appreciate having the NOW clinic as an option, it should not be my main place to get medical care. My primary care physician is the one who knows my history. I should not have to go to the NOW clinic because I cannot get in to see my primary care physician. I like having everything in one place but I am getting frustrated to the point that I am considering changing physicians. read more

My wife and I have been visiting our PCP at the same office for 5years. Wife came in for lab work today at your Gateway, Melbourne site. Was told because of new scanners and policy change she needed a paper copy of her Medicare card for every visit and an electronic version on her phone wasn't acceptable. That is required for all doctor appointments as well. installing technology that creates a bigger burden for your customers is unacceptable. You go paperless but your customers cannot. That decision was just an internally focused faux security setting in new software, which is a good way to add overhead cost and lose customers. Medicare doesn't change numbers and my picture ID with an electronic Medicare card version, if even really needed should be sufficient. I am a retired CIO and have seen this type of behavior too many times in self observed businesses. I can vote with my wallet and find another provider who makes smarter business decisions. Came in for urgent care for a sinus infection. I went online and scheduled an appointment the day before. After signing in it was probably a 20 min wait if that. Everyone was helpful and courteous. The doctor was very informative in explaining the causes of the sinus infection and what is needed to fully recover from it. I would come back if needed. But I also encourage those to go to their website and try setting up an appt. Because the wait time can reach up to 2-3 hrs if you don't have an appt. read more

It's usually the administrators I would be complaining about but I have a primary doctor (internal medicine) and a endocrinologist and both don't have a care in the world about me. Ordinarily in life you would wonder about my self esteem skeptical if I have paranoia but these are doctors I entrust with my care, my health depends on their care, I follow and believe their guidance. The primary is Weldon in Malabar and the endocrinologist is Burgose at Gateway. Weldon told me my trigger finger wasn't a big deal and gave me Celebrex to take for 30 days, he referred me to a nerve test when I told him it didn't help and was getting worse, then 2 months later after they said I had carpel tunnel due to the test, I learned trigger finger and carpel tunnel are not in any way related they are two separate issues, so I am scheduled for carpel tunnel when that is not my ailment, and I asked questions about my upcoming surgery that were not satisfactorily answered pertaining to nerve damage and healing process. SO I called Weldon because he is directly involved for the referral for the nerve test that led to a red herring, and he wasted time giving me drugs and mis diagnosing me to begin with. Okay okay, you say, he's human, they don't know everything, I agree, that is why I called him yesterday seeking his help on getting answers to my questions and concerns and his response was "you have been on our phone for 10 minutes, you need to contact your surgeon with those questions. So the guy who referred the surgeon who wasn't forthcoming with me, the guy who wasted time drugging me and misdiagnosing me, now says I am taking away his precious time on the phone with him, and told me to go talk to my surgeon? First, I am wondering why I am having surgery. Uncaring and arrogant Weldon is, avoid him. Burgose is the same. She has no idea what medication should be used to control my diabetes, and her office will not tell the pharmacy to fill with generic on first go around, I have to always get involved because the drugs cost too much, she simply doesn't care either, another way I know this is I am supposed to see her every 4 months, but for no reason given they just pushed me out 5 months. She comes off as disinterested and going through the motions, typical in and out revolving door dr seeing us as ATM machines. Blood work, x-ray, walk-in clinic, every different physician you need, stress test, etc. Plus very nice little cafe, Walgreens for prescriptions, valet parking. I have used this location since 1996.
