Dr. Briones is not a good doctor, he made many mistakes with my 2 cats. He didnt notice the large mass in my Lily's stomach and he lied about blood test results saying the enzymes in her liver were high so that he could make $400 on an unnecessary ultrasound. He also wanted to treat her anemia with expensive and painful drugs and iron shots. There were quite a few red flags i ignored before I went to another Doctor. He made comments a few times that were nasty and bizare, he squeezed urine out of my cat onto the table then realized he should have taken a culture with a needle in her bladder, he sent the contaminated sample and it came back positive for e coli. She took antibiotics even though as I found out later from her new Doctor she probably never had e coli. He squeezed her bladder or something one time so hard that she screamed like I never heard any animal scream, me and my mother reacted by saying "oooh", not loud but he yelled at us "QUIET I have to concentrate QUIET". One time he wanted to keep my cat there overnight but we couldn't afford it my mother said "we are doing plan B" as he called it previously because we were giving subcutaneous fluids at home he snickered and said " yeah more like plan C". He would often make comments like that designed to make us feel like we weren't giving the proper care to our animals. There were a few more incidents with this inept so called doctor, but I'll get to the main point of my story. My wonderful cat Lily wasnt doing well 5 days after we found out she was anemic. I called Briones at 8 am and was told he'll call me back. I called again at noon, was told he's busy he'll call back. We decided to go to another Doctor, the best Vet in Bay Ridge Dr. Appel. I got an appointment for 7pm. As we were walking out the door at 6:50 Dr Briones finally called. I had asked his receptionist earlier to fax Lilys records to the new doctor. I asked him again about the enzymes in her liver and he said they are high and she needs an ultrasound to make sure shes well enough for the anemia medication. So we went to Dr. Appel, he was looking through her records and he told us this is an incomplete report, he said I should call Briones and ask for the complete records. I called and he then sent it. As it turned out the part that was missing showed that the enzymes in her liver were not high and did not require an ultrasound, Briones lied and he tried to conceal his lie. Dr. Appel examined Lily, felt her organs and within one minute he told us that she had a giant mass inside and this cat needs to be euthanized. He said he would not have even done a blood test. Briones had felt her stomach before so he either knew about the mass and let her suffer with it or he is so inept and unqualified that he didn't feel a giant mass in her, both of which are unacceptable for a licensed veterinarian. I can't tell you how mad I am at this guy, words cannot describe. I plan on doing everything in my power to put this fraud out of business including contacting the nys education department, the nys Veterinary Board, the department of consumer affairs and whoever else will listen and investigate this piece of garbage that will let an animal suffer just to make a few more dollars. I may not get far with filling out complaint forms, but that wont stop me. Doctor Fidel Briones has been my dogs veterinarian for the past four years. Jellybean and I go for her checkups and vaccinations, our visits aren't very lengthy and for the most part the staff in the past has been helpful. Over the years I've noticed a dwindling of staff. Throughout my visits in the past I've noticed that if I asked a question Doctor Briones seemed short tempered and would reply with a bit of an attitude. His English isn't the best but it's no excuse for his lack of positive attention. Although I've noticed this I've ignored it because I didn't want to think negatively about my experience, especially because each visit isn't an inexpensive one. Yesterday during my visit with Jellybean I talked to Doctor Briones about an accumulation of gunk in her eye. I asked if he could take a look and as he asked his questions I found it difficult to answer because I was unsure and unsure on how it gets there and we simply use wipes to clean her eye. My answers seemed short for him and I noticed the change in formality. I asked if everything was ok and he ignored me and moved along to ask more questions, however because he is now short staffed he left the room without notice to tend to clients walking in. Jellybean is often "nervous" when she visits, I suppose as any dog would be, but when he came back he said that giving her time the way he did usually helps. He was away for about ten minutes and didn't excuse himself. When he came back he proceeded with a check up and checked her gums and effortlessly said she had gum disease...which I found very incentive, checked her ears and effortlessly she's got an ear infection, incentive again. I asked, "How can you tell?" We have a very healthy and active dog who hadn't shown signs of either problem. He showed the differences in the war which was minimal and said there was a smell coming from her ear. I got close and didn't smell anything. (I work in perfumery and have a trained nose.) so I asked questions and curious questions to formulate a decision on what was to be done. Again this made Dr. Briones frustrated and he answered with unprofessional and sharp remarks. At this point I told myself I'd be intolerant to such unpleasant unprofessionalism. I asked again if everything was ok, that of which was ignored, again. He proceeded with a total of the days visit which was only about a twenty minute visit, where ten of those minutes were used to help another client. I asked how it ballooned to it's total and he obnoxiously said that it was for today's visit. Again perplexed I asked what had been done, and for an itemized list for understanding. As I was by an opened door (because it was very warm in the office) he didn't excuse himself and closed the door indicating that I move. Doctor Briones was short of being professional and combatively showed me an itemized list. After showing the list he said that he values his relationships and felt as though our relationship was being tainted. How does respectfully asking questions about your pets well being turn into a tainted relationship? We've had Jellybean for 7 years, and are very sensitive to her needs. Why wouldn't I be worried when I hear disease, during such a negative visit. Veterinarians should be prepared to answer questions that bring up concern. This Doctor, over the years has been rude, and I've kept quiet because it's close to home. He isn't friendly when you ask questions and was very dismissive. This may be due to a loss of staff and feeling the pressure of having to pivot job responsibilities but it's no excuse. read more

Dr. Briones and his staff are always very loving, caring and gentle to our cats. Dr. Briones is a very compassionate person, who always takes his time to explain everything. Over the years we had to leave a few of our cats overnight for a few days, I knew they were in a safe, comfortable place. I'm so thankful we found Dr Briones during a very difficult time. While we were away we were notified by our landlords (who were looking after our cats) that our 16-year old cat wasn't well. A friend rushed over to check on him and we decided to call an after-hours vet. Dr Briones was recommended and when I called him he listened carefully and asked questions to gain an understanding of the situation. He arrived at our apartment quickly, assessed my cat and gave him some pain relief. My friend told me that he (and his assistant) was extremely gentle and calming which was very important since my cat hated vets. He diagnosed a possible blood clot in his leg (this was confirmed later) and then he and his assistant PERSONALLY drove my friend and cat to the ER. As he had phoned ahead to explain the situation they were able to immediately admit my cat. He and his assistant remained with my friend for a few hours waiting for more information to become available. He had offered to drive her and my cat home too but in the early hours of the morning she insisted that they leave as more tests had to be run. Unfortunately we lost our cat but Dr Briones' assistance, caring nature and willingness to help beyond anything I would have expected made an unbearable situation a bit easier. My dog is always well cared for here and I feel like everything is reasonably priced. Especially since she really only needs to go once a year or so for vaccines and check ups. The staff are always polite and kind to me and my dog, and they do everything possible to make her feel less anxious. Dr. Briones is the nicest vet I have ever had. He doesn't over charge (its 65 for a visit) and spends a LOT of time with you and your dog addressing all of your concerns. Dr Briones is an excellent Vet. He took wonderful care of our dog Chino. He was compassionate and helpful in explaining what our treatment options were when our dog was diagnosed with cancer. He explained what our options were and was gentle with Chino and us. We really appreciate him and his assistant for their kindness when we had to put Chino down. I have taken my Golden Retriever here twice now. The second time we had a bit of an emergency and the Dr was extremely helpful and professional. I am very surprised by the negative reviews. The Dr and his helper were both very warm and caring with my dog and it was very obvious that they are both animal lovers. At the beginning of my consultation I told the Dr that money was a bit tight, he gave me all my options and how much each would cost, he could have easily had me do a bunch of tests, but he didn't. Dr. Briones and his staff were incredibly compassionate guides to us during the difficult decision to mercifully put our cat down. They did it in our home, which was important to me. Dr. Briones gave me options, honesty, time, and a caring demeanor. After he left, we received a gentle phone call from the receptionist to settle the bill and she offered to take a paw print for us to remember our sweet kitty. We even received a sympathy card within a few days! They are all angels there and I am grateful for the kindness they showed me and especially my cat. read more

Maybe I caught him on a good day but I was pleased with Dr. Briones. I have high standards too since I absolutely loved my old vet in Va. My mutt was due for his shots. He was very pleasant with my dog and his assistant (the midget as Jackie rudely called him) were both very nice. His assistant kept my dog calm as he checked him out and gave him his shots. I really love the staff at this facility. Everyone from the front desk receptionist to the vet tech to the actual Vet is so kind. Dr. B always gives me plenty of time for my questions. My dog never seems fearful or anxious when he is being examined. I really like the fact that even when they cut my dog's nails or weigh him, they do it in front of me. I have been taking my cat here for almost 2yrs now since I moved to Bay Ridge. The attention and care that Dr Briones and his staff give is above and beyond any expectations one could have. He calls immediately with results, and takes the time to explain everything. Yes he does have an accent but it is not as bad as some other reviews state. I went into this vet very hopeful and left with an awful experience. First, and foremost, I have nothing against people with a thick accent, but this vet was very difficult to understand and poor with English. This made it difficult to communicate. Before I knew it, he was giving my dogs vaccine's that I did not want them to have. When I told him one of my dogs has anxiety problems he offered up a 4oz bottle of "spray" to put on areas the dog is - which cost me $50. On the way home the box said it was only for "puppies" (my dogs are 7) and to spray only in a confined area. The spray did not work. Worse yet, a week after this ($500 visit!!!) my dog developed warts due to "over vaccinations". This place was terrible - and the guy did not seem to care at all about my dogs - only that he could charge services for things they did not need. Do your research before taking your pet to a vet - this one cost me an arm and a leg and my dogs are no more better and had to be "re-examined" by a new vet costing me even more because of these problems. read more

Everyone at the office was nice and gentle with my 8 year old cat. She has some patches of hair missing from over grooming so the doctor recommended trying her on hypoallergenic food to see if that helps instead of jumping into a invasive procedure. He also let me know how much each test and vaccine would cost before he preformed them. Pet care is expensive but my visit was less than I thought. I will be going back for a blood test and see how that goes. I didn't read the reviews before I went and my experience was very satisfactory. read more

I took my dog there twice because they are i n the neighborhood. I was not comfortable with the Doctor or the vet tech. The first visit cost me over $200.00 for an ear infection. I did not feel he was warm or caring toward my small dog which made me feel ill at ease. He is hard to understand and I was concerned that he was finding it hard to understand me as well. Several bad experiences have led me to look elsewhere for a vet for my dog. Our 1st visit with Dr Brion es was without incident. It was a typical check up with shots and vaccinations. My dog absolutely LOVED going there. Our second visit was for a growth on my dog's ear that turned out to be a pimple, But the Dr insisted that we put the dog under anesthesia so they can remove the growth and send it for testing. I was very uncomfortable with the decision, so we opted out, and wouldn't you know it, the pimple cleared up in days. It needs to be said again that my dog absolutely loved going to the vet before i finish my story. Our last visit was for my dog's paws, which were red and swollen. the Dr spoke to me like it was our first visit, not showing any recognition to my dog or myself, even after going over the dog's records. He decided that the dog needed more rabies shots and vaccinations and proceeded to muzzle my dog. my dog was terrified to the touch, clearly not comfortable with any of the treatment that the Dr was giving. after barking and growling due to many unsuccessful attempts at administering the shots, the Dr finally got his way, gave the vaccinations and we were on our way. in the lobby of the office while we were leaving, an elderly lady was being friendly with my dog, and my dog wit her. The Dr comes out and says matter of factly, 'Dont touch that dog, he bites'. it's an American pit bull wit the heart and playfulness of a young child and now the Dr has stigmatized him to not only a stranger, but to a neighborhood stranger who could easily spread the word that my dog is vicious. this morning my girlfriend was measuring the dog for a sweater and he coiled up in fear when she got to his rear measurements and growled a high gurgle, just like the night at the vet. this is the first time our dog has done this ever, except for when our vet traumatized him. i will NEVER go to this vet again. read more
