They were just the right amount of chewy. Flavored cream cheeses are a little on the pricy side, so maybe just go for the plain schmear. Damn good bagels from this second generation Heartland shop in Rossville, Staten Island. So happy they were open at 7 am, as we drove back from LaGuardia Airport. Their onion bagel was a plump, airy, creation, with a load a crunchy onion flakes top and bottom. A nice smear of light veggie spread and I was in business. Just so happens that I visit number 1 shop last year. It was also very solid. They had some good looking donuts, too. Service was friendly and fast. Prices very reasonable. I always pass by this place in the morning on my way to Miggy's and the line is always out the door. I often wonder if everyone knows how amazing Miggy's breakfast sandwiches are and their bagels and bread! Today I decided to give it a shot..what a disappointment! There is no welcome, the manager is barking orders at frazzled young workers who are literally running into each other trying to get the orders done. I got egg, turkey and swiss on a whole wheat wrap, my usual at Miggys where I would only be able to eat half. Well just look at this disgrace!! Heartland Bagel II (HBII) is my favorite bagel store in Staten Island. Almost every time I go there, I get hot bagels that are crusty on the outside and moist and chewy on the inside. I love that contrast. I normally have a whole Wheat everything with tuna fish. The tuna Fish salad is very tasty on the warm bagel. In addition they have the freshest doughnuts and cakes on their shelves. I never had a complaint. It is true the lines are long on the weekend, but it does move fast and the service is always good. Awesome is an understatement. Like many people know there is no shortage of bagel stores on Staten Island. Just in my own neighborhood there must me at least 10 stores. I drive three towns over to buy them here. The coffee is always on point and the bagels are always just right. Try the doughnuts too. Sometimes they have a French toast doughnut, to die for. The grill is a very popular option on the weekends with frayed eggs and bacon sandwiches coming off nonstop. Be prepared to wait but it's worth it. The line is long but I am always patient because it's so good. Remember I drive out of the way to get my bagels here. read more

This bagel store has been rapidly declining over the last few months. Their bagels are not fresh and hot anymore, not even at 7am. I recently went in to grab some lunch a couple weeks ago around noon and they only had a couple bagels left. I said how come you only have a few bagels left they said it's because their bagel machine broke. My husband grabbed half a dozen bagels this morning and they're just not fresh how they used to be. Yummy! My go to deli before work. Sometimes the line is long, but the people there are pretty fast and always cheery in the morning, which I appreciate. But this review isn't about the store itself. You NEED and I truly mean it. You NEED to try the NUTELLA CRUMB DONUT. Yes I like the store and the people. First off I wanna say that the management at heartland is on the ball. They corrected the problem, followed up and made good. This morning I gave them another shot and it was a complete turn a round. Food was done exactly as I ordered, arrived hot and fresh and the gentleman on the phone was knowledgeable and professional. I will certainly be ordering here again and I am very glad I gave them a second chance I guess everyone has an off day. They also sent me a few bagels for free with the order. There isn't a thing on the menu that isn't amazing! Best bagels on the south shore. My fave is onion bagel with chicken salad or just cream cheese ! I usually have a problem cs I'm pocky w my egg sandwich.. I like the yolk very drippy but the white well done with very crisp bacon and the grill guy always gets it right!!
