There is a jewel, a sanctuary hidden off of Moreno road in Lakeside. It is called Heartland Ranch. If you love horses like my wife and I and want to relearn techniques necessary to ride a horse properly and with confidence or as a beginner just starting out, Heartland Ranch is for you. We have a 6 day horseback riding adventure scheduled for next year so I was searching for a great training facility to get back in shape for this type of ride. The lead trainer Amy is professional, engaging and fun to work with while ensuring your safety and making sure the horses are protected too. This is a fabulous facility! There is lots of shade on those hot days, arenas are groomed and watered 6 days a week. Nice tack rooms, grooming bays, areas to hand graze your horse, round pens, huge arenas and a trail course. The board is super reasonable. There is a groomed track around the perimeter. Landscaping is so pleasing to the eye. Corrals are safe with large shelters and soft footing. Feeding and cleaning is efficient and reliable. Maintenance on tack rooms/feed storage is top notch. The place is beautiful and horses are happy. There are trainers if you need assistance and a thriving hunter jumper program for kids and adults. read more

Heartland is an amazing facility with wonderful trainers and a staff who take pride in the ranch. Horses are well cared for and the owners do everything to make the horses, owners, and students happy. When you drive through the gate,  you see a ranch that is cared for and maintained.  It is evident that the owners,  Pam and David,  are very proud of their facility and are always upgrading.  The horses are very well cared for - clean corrals and quality hay. They are happy and healthy.  The trainers offer excellent lesson programs.  There is also Pony Club for young riders and the fabulous Sunshine Ranch Therapeutic riding program for special needs riders.  With 3 riding arenas,  2 round pens,  an obstacle course,  and a track, there is always a place to enjoy a ride.  The proof of a great boarding facility is happy boarders and happy horses.   That's what you'll find at Heartland. read more

The owners, Pam and David, have great pride of ownership of their property. The facility is very organized in the way it is laid out. The cross-ties, stalls, sheds, pastures, arenas and round-pens are laid-out so there is always space and it never seems crowded even on a busy weekend morning. The grounds are well maintained. Arenas and round-pens are dragged on a consistent basis. The best part of Heartland Equestrian Center is how incredibly friendly, supportive, and respectful the trainers and boarders are to each other. The horses are well-taken care of by the employees as they feed the horses at the same time for both feedings. The stalls are 24 X 24 with a sand footing. Because of the sand, there are not pee spots as I have experienced at an other ranch (I had to supplement with dry stall, wood pellets, and shavings) therefore it is less expensive boarding my horse here! read more

I love this ranch. The people and staff are friendly, my two large breed horses are well fed, and cared for. I absolutely love the facility! I dont even know where to start.. BUT I will say the staff that cleans and helps out on the ranch are amazing. There are some amazing women that I will call lifetime friends and they are the most helpful beautiful people I have ever met. BUT MOST IMPORTANT...the owner of the ranch is beyond description. We had a flu go through our ranch and horses were dying and we had staff that had covid and not one shred of information was sent out. I was told directly by one of the horses owners that her horse had Corona virus and when I asked the owner Pam if this was the case she still to this day will deny it. ..she doesn't allow shavings in your corral so when my horse got sick with that virus and developed laminitis because of it her solution was putting sand in my corral, that she provides for a very costly amount... I was feeding, supplying my own hay and doing everything for my horse when he got sick and she never even once offered to help or discount my board she DOESNT LIVE ON THE PROPERTY!!. She's very reactive, she's verbally abusive.. she got mad and yelled "listen blondie" thew her hand up and walked away over a sign on my tack door. She raised board by $50 during the pandemic...she doesn't quarantine new horses that come in and put a very sick horse right next to mine that had NO VACCINATIONS... and she has a proper place to do this with her mare motel that is private on the top of the grounds BUT DOESN'T!! when I asked her why she would put a sick horse next to my horse she said "he came from a local barn and not to worry" these are first hand problems I had specifically with the owner of this boarding facility myself. Do your research!! Go visit ... its the worst place I've ever boarded. read more

My daughter started taking lessons here about 4 weeks ago. She's young for lessons and at first I thought the instructor was telling her too much information at once, but I didn't interfere I just watched and she picked it up immediately. My daughter really likes the way she talks to her like she's a little adult and learns easily from her. The place is very nice, there are a lot of horses boarding here. Heartland Ranch Equestrian Center has been the home of Sunshine Ranch Therapeutic Riding for almost 4 years. It is by far the most beautiful and well-maintained boarding facility we have ever operated from. The owners and staff go above and beyond, and many of the boarders have become close friends. Our therapy horses are older and have some special needs. When one of our mares had to have emergency surgery last year, the ranch owners helped us build a small recovery stall and graciously accommodated all of the extra needs that came along with her healing process over the next 4 months. Some of our horses have special dietary needs, and the owners and staff work hard to help us find the right balance to keep them healthy and happy. There are 5 riding arenas, an obstacle course, a track that runs the whole perimeter of the ranch, and more. We have so many fun places to conduct lessons for our students with special needs. Everyone looks out for each other and it is so reassuring to know that if anything is wrong with your horse, someone will notice and let you know right away. Amazing facility! The owners take great pride in their facility and business. They do what they say they will and try to accommodate special requests. They truly care for the horses! The ranch is well taken care of and they are always making improvements. There are lesson programs for both beginners and advanced whether you have your own horse or need to use a lesson horse. Rainbow Pony Club runs out of here as well. Arenas are dragged 5 days a week (sometimes 6). There are 2 large arenas along with a smaller enclosed circular "dressage" arena in addition to two round pens in the back for lunging or turnout if needed. There are also grass pastures to let your horse graze if wanted. Local hunter jumper show available on the property. Can't say enough good things about this facility! read more

This is an amazing ranch. Rather you board a horse or take lessons you will find the most friendly, positive and helpful folks around ever. My entire family spent the day out on the ranch yesterday riding horses. Wow, what fun. From the kids brushing the horses and bathing them in the hot sun to riding around in the arena, we all had an amazing day. I moved my horse Storm into this wonderful ranch, and can not put in words how happy he has become. He is a changed man, and I see it in all the horses here. It is a great feeling to see your babies (horses) love their home as much as you love having them there. The board is less then MANY or all places I looked at in San Diego, however you get SO MUCH MORE. I drove by the Ranch before being a horse owner and always thought is was so beautiful as well as cared for by the owners. Now that I am a part of the ranch I have new friends (ppl & horses), when I visit it feels like home. My horse is fed well, cleaned up after and loved!!!! The property is wonderful with many arenas, wash racks, cross ties, access to trails, grazing pastures and track around the property.
