Both Dr. Bennett and her office manager Cori are kind, compassionate, patient and detail-oriented. From the first email, I felt like I mattered, and that it was their mission to ensure my girl got the best, most appropriate care possible. Even in those moments when I was scared, resistant or in deep denial, they were there to listen, guide and support me. I feel extremely lucky and grateful that Missy's last days were spent in the care of these loving beings. They made her transition as peaceful and painless as possible, and I honestly feel like it was divine intervention that I had the intuition to bring our family here so that Missy could have this end-of-life experience, as I'm not sure if we would have had the luxury of this level of care back home. It's taken me nearly 6 months to compose myself to write this much needed review but I must say, Heart's Ease and Dr. Bennett are top notch and worthy of 10 stars if Yelp allowed it. Losing a beloved pet is not easy. Having to make the choice of ending your pets life, allowing them to die with dignity, is the toughest decision we as pet lovers will ever face. Many years ago, when my beloved Diesel was a puppy getting his 8 week shots, an older gentleman stumbled into our vets office carrying his old Labrador in his arms, tears rolling down his face. We sat in the waiting room listening as this poor man sobbed for nearly an hour after his beloved Lab crossed the rainbow bridge. I knew from that day forward, I never wanted to be in that uncomfortable situation if I could in any way avoid it. In March of this year, Diesel's arm had swollen, prompting a vet visit. A couple x-rays later, we confirm it is bone cancer, our hearts sank. 12 years old, so many memories, so many good times, unconditional love, and now cancer? It just isn't fair. We agreed we would keep him comfortable, make his last few weeks some of the best ever and he would let us know when it's time. Nearly a month later we called Hearts Ease and inquired as to the procedure and how much notice is needed. Dr. Bennett and staff explained the procedure well and were so empathetic, and so helpful in our families time of grief. Several days later, Diesel made it clear to us, his work on Earth was done. Dr. Bennett came to our home that morning and helped my beloved Diesel, comfortably and painlessly cross over the rainbow bridge. I still miss him terribly and think of him daily, often times crying as I'm reminiscing just how great of a dog and family member Diesel was to us. The most important thing to note though, is just how comfortable our entire family was getting to be here in our home, surrounded by each other in our time of grieving. This is truly what sets Hearts Ease apart from your average vet. I highly recommend the services offered by Hearts Ease to everyone. We called Heart's Ease for an emergency euthanasia last week as our sweet dog Musket took a turn for the worse. It's stressful enough to lose a pet but especially stressful during current social distancing restrictions. We were beyond grateful that Dr. Bennett was willing to come assist us. We asked for the latest time slot available so we could have more time to say goodbye to our dog. I'm not sure how it might have interrupted Dr. Bennett's schedule but she called at the very end of her availability which I was also so grateful for. We never felt rushed, anxious, or nervous throughout the process. Dr. Bennett took us slowly through each step, one at a time, checking in with us frequently- all while we are all masked and working to keep a safe social distance. Later that day, many reassurances that Dr. Bennett made during the procedure became vital and helpful. She repeated a few times that should would not leave until she was 100% certain our dog had passed. While I held her limp body and knew she was in dead- in my grief and disbelief I had a few moments of late night anxiety after burying her.. and Dr. Bennett's words and reminders helped reground me.. My dog was gone, but she passed peacefully and she had a great life.. all that was left was to grieve. Having put my first dog down at the vet, I can't tell you how worth it it was to work with Heart's Ease rather than going to the vet. The vet staff was wonderful and awesome-- but keeping our dog at home where she was relaxed and surrounded by familiar smells and sights made a difficult situation bearable. Multiple friends recommended Heart's Ease to us when we wanted to arrange for euthanizing a beloved pet in our home, and I'm not sure we've ever spent money more wisely. Our cat, stoic and loving to her last breath, rarely complained. But when her kidneys failed and her eyesight left her, she made it completely clear to us that her greatest misery would be to return to that vet's office, and we couldn't bear the thought of making her feel tortured, despite the loving efforts of our normal vet. The end result wasn't a whole lot different than if she had curled up in one of our laps on the couch and just never woke up again. Gentle, professional, kind, and humane. I have no adequate words for expressing our gratitude for Dr.Courtney Bennett and her kind-hearted office associate, Cori. We had used Heart's ease and had the opportunity to meet Dr. Bennett several years ago when we needed an in-home euthanization for our dog Booker, who had been under a 10-day quarantine, after accidentally biting my husband while having a seizure. Even though we were meeting Dr. Bennett for the first time that day, she immediately put us at ease and captured the attention of Booker, who decided he loved her about one minute after meeting her. We were afforded all the time we needed, during the entire procedure and afterwards, also. And Dr. Bennett stayed with us as we brought our dog Ruby in to see Booker, afterwards. She stayed even after Booker had been moved from our house, and she engaged in treat-giving and playing with Ruby, while talking with us about our ever-growing dog memorial corner in our living room. Fast forward about 4 years (last month) when our dog Ruby began losing too much weight in a short period of time. After comprehensive blood panels, x-rays, and ultrasound, I was delivered the shocking news that Ruby had a very large mass on her spleen, no-doubt cancerous, and was at risk for an inevitable, painful spleen bleed-out. We already knew the gravity of the situation after a similar cancer experience with our sweet Booker, but instead of jumping right in and doing what we knew Ruby needed for us to do, I contacted Heart's Ease once again, this time inquiring about Palliative Care. We wanted, if possible, to have a little bit of time for adjusting to the devastating news about Ruby and to also give our active and fun-loving girl a bucket list of places to go, friends to see, and formerly forbidden yummies to eat. She was SO happy during those 3 weeks, and we were able to focus on celebrating her life, literally until our last minute with her. We had felt pretty much at ease with appropriate medications available, along with careful guidance from Dr. Bennett. Our girl had only one difficult day, but her concerning symptoms were eased just about immediately after contacting Cori, and receiving Dr. Bennett's input and instruction. Gratefully were able to stick with our original transition date for Ruby, without having to move it up. The experience with Dr.Bennett when Ruby's rainbow day finally arrived was similar to when she was in our home at the end of Booker's life, except this time, she had already spent some time with Ruby, which made a big difference to us and I'm sure to Ruby, also. God bless Dr. Bennett and sweet, compassionate Cori, for making what felt like an unthinkable situation so much easier for all of us. My Lab has been sick for about 10 months, and we have done all we knew to do, and some others had to explain to us. Regular Vet, Internal Med Vet and a Neurologist Vet. She weighed 91 lbs just a few months ago, and now weighs about 50. My dog hated vehicles because she knew it would lead to a Vet Appt We have been praying for a mracle, and today we received it! Dr Bennett was the most kind and compassionate Vet I have ever met, and she came to our home. Our dog was put down town, and we felt so much peace. Her office Staff (Cory) was awesome, she explained the process and made us so at ease. Our dog made the transition today with the help of our angel, Dr Bennett. I wish there were more than 5 stars that I could give Heart's Ease. Last Friday we had to say goodbye to our 14 Year old Husky Bandit. Dr Peckham came to our home and we went out on the back deck where Bandit peacefully went to sleep. She was kind, gentle, compassionate and respectful. He did not suffer. I think they are very reasonably priced for a vet home visit and a cremation. We consider ourselves very lucky not to have to make that high stress office visit. I can't believe I have a yelp account and haven't rated this business. A year ago they came over and put down our sick lab. I've lost people close to me but for some reason this hurt was intense and awful. So for someone to come over and step into the middle of our grief and help us through that process was unbelievable. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Bennett and her service. After our 17+ year old kitty started deteriorating quickly--in the midst of COVID, on a weekend--Dr. Bennett and her associates responded almost immediately to our call and were able to come to our home and make a very hard and sad decision and day go smoothly and peacefully. While we had never met or worked with her before, she made us feel as valued as if we had been long time patients. I've always felt blessed to have had a special cat for such a long time and now feel doubly blessed to have Dr. Bennett with us for her final day. Our dog, Joey, had been sick with allergies for about 15 months. He was doing OK with medication until last weekend. He was still wagging his tail, demanding food and snacks and generally declining but still had quality of life. Saturday, he seemed off. By Saturday afternoon, he let us know it was time. Our vet was already closed and the other remote vet I had used before was also closed. We knew we needed to do this at home for our children and the other dog. First thing Monday morning, the office called and said that Dr. Cook could come that day. It was much pricier than I've paid in the past, but the urgency justified the expense. From the office scheduling to Dr. Cook, the demeanor of everyone we interacted with was top notch. They had gentle voices and explained everything with such compassion. Dr. Cook was beyond outstanding handling all the questions that two little boys will ask. He was super patient. We all got to take the time we needed to say our good-bye's and our other dog was able to smell Joey to understand that he was gone. I've had to do this more times than I can count, with my previous experience running a dog rescue. It's always difficult, but Hearth's Ease was amazing. Dr. Courtney Bennett is truly a kind soul. We had the hard luck of losing our 10 year old Zinnia and 17 year old Daisy this year - Zin to cancer first. Dr. Bennett was recommended to us by our family vet and by friends that had used Dr. Bennett's services. We asked her to come in as part of our vet team when it became clear that our 14-year-old dog was in his final decline. She worked in tandem with our family vet and our holistic vet. I credit her with keeping Linus active and comfortable until the very end. Dr. Bennett helped us make the decision to let Linus go while he was still alert and reasonably comfortable, which was hard at the time but in hindsight is a great comfort. When the day came that made it clear it was time, she arrived at the house bearing cheesecake, which Linus was still able to enjoy. The whole process took about an hour and a half, with most of it being making Linus comfortable and relaxed in his favorite spot and enjoying the final moments as a family. He ate, he was being petted, and then he took a final nap. It was as peaceful as it could have been, and was exactly what we wanted for Linus. He was treated with great respect and was given a dignified death and aftermath. I hope I will always be able to provide this kind of service for my dogs when the time comes. read more

We didn't need to use Dr Bennett's services ultimately, because Winslow (as usual) went on his own terms about 12 hours before Dr Bennett was going to come to our home. But she was the most sympathetic vet we have spoken. She talked with us about what we wanted for Winslow, discussed when the "right" time was etc. She was concerned about the quality of his life and helped us determine what the next steps would be, and when we would know it was time. Even though we never met her in person, she sent us a card to express her condolences for our dog passing, which was unexpected but very touching. I recommend her services to anyone who has an aging or ill pet. I am thankful we have her services here locally as an option to make our friends' passing a little easier. read more

It is odd to write a review over an event as sorrow filled as your best friend/pet dying. Despite this, I wanted to let anyone out there who finds themselves similarly looking for a veterinarian to help guide them through the difficult process of having your pet euthanized, or even simply exploring alternative treatment methods, pain management, or palliative care, to know that Dr. Bennett is an extremely knowledgable, compassionate, and thoughtful doctor. We did not know what to do when we received the diagnosis that our cat Puff had a large tumor in his spleen bleeding into his body and that it was unlikely he would survive throughout the week. Our regular vet suggested that we bring him to the office to be euthanized. Unfortunately, the stress of placing Puff into a cat carrier and taking him to the vet for routine visits normally placed enough stress on him that he would urinate and defecate in his cage shaking with fear. I did not want the last day of his life to be this way. After my husband did a google search for in-home-animal-hospice-care he fortunately stumbled across Heart's Ease. When we called about her service, Dr. Bennett stayed on the phone with us for over an hour just to talk about the medical situation and help guide us through our grief; she also patently answered innumerable questions before we had even made a formal appointment. Dr. Bennett made sure to keep Puff calm and sedated before his injection. She even made a return visit because we wanted a few extra hours to spend with him. Before he passed Dr. Bennett also made us a clay paw print so that we had something very special to commemorate his life with. We are so thankful that Dr. Bennett was there on Puff's last day. From my Husband: Dr. Bennett is one of the best veterinarians that I have ever dealt with, and I have dealt with many. This in and of itself is impressive, but what makes it truly amazing is the fact that she chose to focus on hospice and end of life care for animals. Dr. Bennett advised my wife and I in such a way that offered guidance without pushing any sort of agenda. There was no sense of judgement, but simultaneously there was an overwhelming sense that you were in good hands. The fact is that the loss of a pet is a truly cataclysmic experience, and with Dr. Bennett it went as smoothly as it could have gone. The difficulty in writing a review of this nature is that by definition the things that make Dr. Bennett so wonderful to deal with are very intangible. She has a very calming presence. She is very respectful and truly goes out of her way to make sure that you are not only comfortable with whatever decision you make, but further, that you are aware of the process, what will happen, what to expect, etc... Dr. Bennett was truly a source of tremendous comfort during what was one of the more difficult things I have been through in recent years. Dr. Bennett was fortunately free to help with the transition of our beloved dog of 15 years (16 years old). Though he had a gradual decline, he suddenly could not drink and we interpreted that as his time to go (within 1 day). I dreaded having to keep him comfortable until we could arrange his departure from this world, and was concerned about him suffering unnecessarily. By providence, at short notice, Dr. Bennett was available at the perfect time. Her attentiveness and calm presence was a great help, and made our letting go process so much easier than it might have been. I have never thought of in-home euthanasia up until the day before we had to make the difficult decision of putting our kitty Chelsey to sleep due to illness. We wanted to avoid her the stressful ride to the vet's office, so this option was a blessing for our kitty and us. She didn't feel a thing, she just fell asleep in the most peaceful, calm, relaxing way possible, all in the comfort of her own home, in her favorite round basket. Although we used Heart Ease for only a short time, I can say they were fabulous. Our dog was diagnosed by our local vet with heart and lung complications. I was devastated and a friend told me about Heart Ease. Dr. Bennett talked with me about the situation one morning and made an appointment with Dr. Nathanial Cook to meet with us the following week. He came to the house and spent close to three hours explaining palliative care, listening to our concerns and examining Sadie. Although he found a mass, there wasn't anything critical. Then, three days later, something changed. We came home to our dog panting and agitated. She couldn't stand and was clearly in pain. We contacted Dr. Cook through their emergency number and he was at our house at 7:15am. Unfortunately we had no choice but put her to sleep. Dr. Cook was caring and sensitive to our emotions and to Sadie's. In a three days our world was turned upside down and we felt we could depend on Dr. Cook. Our regular vet didn't make house calls to our area, we lived in another county from where his practice was. After making the heartbreaking choice to euthanize our seventeen year old dog, Dusty, we knew we wanted it to happen at home. Dr. Nathaniel Cook, DVM, was wonderful. From the moment he arrived he was compassionate and professional. He explained everything to us and did not rush us in anyway. He said we could take as much time as we needed. He listened to us ramble with memories of better days for Dusty. Once she was gone he took her body to Faithful Companions Pet Cremation Services for us. They were also wonderful allowing us to come in for a viewing of her body before the cremation, she looked so peaceful and young again. Three hours later she was placed in an urn and we brought her home. I would recommend Hearts Ease Veterinary Care to anyone who is looking for in home euthanasia. We chose to go the cremation, but Dr. Cook explained there were different options where most people do not choose to do that and would pick up the remains at his office. read more
