Stopped by the winery yesterday, which is only open one day (Sunday). VERY disappointed! I recently read an article that there were new owners and how excited they were to have a dream come true and purchase a winery. I was looking forward to meeting the new owner(s) and congratulating them. Unfortunately, that was not the case when we walked in. Woman behind the counter was not very welcoming. She obviously was carrying on a conversation with an earbud. NOT interesting in the least to explain the selections being offered. Asked a few questions and she went back to her conversation. Went back inside and she was still walking around on her phone and not interested in helping us. The experiences I have had at other wineries were met with a hello and a smile and how can I help you today. Not the case at Hearthstone. With that lack of customer service, I don't see them lasting very long. I know I won't go back there. read more

I did the wine tasting at Heartstone and had a great experience! The tasting is $12 per person and you get to sample 5 wines. I'm pretty sure the owner was the one doing our tasting and she was so amazing. She helped us pick our five wines simply based on us saying we like wines that are "sweet and light", and all 5 wines were great. We got significant sized pours for each sample. We also got to keep the glass! The sitting area is absolutely stunning and they have a super cute dog. There is plenty of parking as well. read more

The first time I came here I was under impressed. The building was very new and very stark. There was no warmth and no decoration. There was no color and no design to it. It was pretty much just wood. So I thought well they just built it so they will be adding to it and I was right. This time we went in we sat out in the patio which is beautiful and the grapevines were beautiful. Everything had grown up so much since I had been a couple of years ago. We sat out on the patio and were served our tastings by a lovely young woman who was very knowledgeable and very sociable. This time I really enjoyed a lot of the wines. I do not drink red and so I didn't have too many to choose from in the whites but I did enjoy what I had. The view from the patio is gorgeous and it's very relaxing to sit there and drink your wine. They also offer a charcuterie plate which was $23 I believe and had we not just had lunch we would've enjoyed that. A nice place to go and visit and I would still like to see warmer decor and some color may be inside that building. read more

I rented this facility to throw my daughter a bridal shower. I contracted from 10:30-3:00 and was told they will charge more if you are there longer, which I would expect. Well I arrived at 10:15 to bring all of my things from my car to the door so we could easily bring it in when she let us in at 10:30. Problem is no one was there yet. By 10:30 I texted her and she told me husband was on the way. By 10:35 still no one. She gave me his number, I called him and was told traffic (which I realize is unpredictable) however; If you have a paying customer contracted from a certain time and has to get in to set up; you be sure to get there early! I literally had 10 minutes to set up. And I had customers arriving while still setting up. So angry! I asked for refund of the half hour we got jipped which he did give me. Except he didn't have the exact change. He had a five and would have essentially been giving me back 2.50 more. However he held out asking if any of us had change. And he then found a dollar thereby shorting me 1.50. It's not about the nickel and diming in my part; it's about the principle that he was supposed to be making right a "wrong" by him. Anyways I was very frustrated in their lack of planning for the incoming of a paying customer. I personally would never book with them again. But future people should be sure to stress that you expect someone to be there with plenty of time to let you in to set up and decorate read more

Absolutely beautiful wedding this weekend; the wedding planner Tricia was wonderful. Couldn't have asked for a prettier reception. The owners were also very lovely. My family loved the winery and will definitely be going back! Don't have the pictures back from the photographer yet but I know they will be stunning! This will be interesting to see in a few years. Right now it looks a bit fabricated, almost like a movie set and I feel it's because it is brand new. It's a beautiful barn and view, but it hasn't developed a personality yet you may see in an older winery. The bottles, however, I find beautiful and it almost made me wish I drank red wine. There is also rumor of a wine dog that makes occasional appearances. I did try a glass of white, and it was dry as advertised. Not my particular cup of tea but for someone who does enjoy dry whites, this may be a good place to stop for a glass! read more

I'm giving it five stars, despite the fact that the building -- a beautiful new all wood barn-type structure, with soaring ceilings, arched windows, a big stone fireplace -- is still partially under construction. Not actively, not workmen and tools and stuff, but there is a big expanse of what appears to be a yet-to-be-completed dining/sitting area, behind a half-wall lined with windows adjacent to the current tasting room. I didn't get the full story from the proprietor, but apparently something to do with the permitting at this point. A big mezzanine overlooks, and it appears that it will be truly beautiful when finished. I couldn't take my eyes of the quality of the woodwork throughout the place. But I'm getting off track. This is a winery after all. The barn/tasting room is barely visible from the road, just the peak of the roof showing over the rolling field in front. A small vineyard grows alongside a lovely patio area -- I suggest a sunset visit -- but it is obviously too immature and small to be responsible for the "estate" wines being served. That's when we were told that the main eight-acre vineyard is atop the hill behind the place. The owners have waited years for the vines to be ready, and they certainly don't disappoint. The tasting we shared consisted of a few reds and a couple of whites (one of the whites was not from their own grapes) and included a Heartstone wine glass. I didn't take notes, but except for one red which we found to be a bit overly sweet, each tasting was very, very good. For such a new winery to have such good product right out of the starting gate is truly impressive. The ample patio area didn't have umbrellas over the tables, but that wasn't a problem during our fall/sunset visit. Shade will probably be required when the weather warms up again. There are also quite a few tables inside, by the fireplace, but the big open room, with lots of windows and a big patio door, made the space feel all as one. Say hello to the house dog, who also happens to be featured on a few of the wine labels. He's a friendly guy, and may come up to greet you when you arrive. All in all, we had a very pleasant experience at this brand new winery. If there is any down side, it is that the place is only a few miles down the road from our home...could be trouble! ;) The proprietors were very friendly and happy to talk about the history of the place, and seemed quite knowledgeable about what they were serving. We were told they'll close for the season sometime in November, so if you're reading this first review I highly recommend a trip to Heartstone to enjoy the beautiful fall foliage and some very nice wines. And you can purchase bottles to take home. Wishing much success to this great addition to our town! read more

Stopped in here after hearing about them from the CT wine passport trail. They have a beautiful building and outdoor patio. The bar and seating area inside are a bit small, there weren't that many of us there but it seemed crowded since we were all in one corner. At the time of our visit, they had 7 wines (3 white, 3 red, and one rose). They have a wide range of tastes, so almost anyone should be able to find something they like. read more

First and last visit for a number of reasons. Attended a private event there and the way guests were treated was appalling. Shuffling us from outside like cattle, saying our event is indoors and the outside areas they were now open to public. Treating us as if we were intruding. We had to ask for garbage to be emptied as it piled up. I was told the owner asked why the host of the event didn't bring garbage bags. What?? Who are these people?. Nancy questioned my sister as to whom she was waiting (at the restroom )and also asking if "that man" was her husband. My sister very rightly said "none of your business." Worst of all, family member of the guest of honor arrived with his children. He was told the children should not run in the fields as they just sprayed pesticides. Hmmm... you spray the vineyards before the public attend? ." Hey everyone, have some free chemicals with your wine. The children are well behaved with parents that carefully attend to them and would address any behavior as do most parents. Another comment was made as well " this is no place for children" . Excuse me? They are part of the family of the guest of honor and nowhere was it stated that children weren't allowed. (I saw others) I have to wonder if because dad and the children were people of color they were given special attention? This all upset me as a guest, the parents, the grandparents and great grandparents who all attended the event. -It's a pretty piece of land. Unfortunately they own it. Unfortunate because I like to support small businesses. But not this one. They have no business being in hospitality! Save your money. - FYI-Wine was not very good - Music not that great. I'm sad to say that after being a customer of this vineyard since they opened, I won't be returning. A man who seemed to have been an owner was extremely rude to my party as we attempted to take photos of the vineyard against the backdrop of their beautiful grounds. We walked by a sign that asked customers to refrain from going in the vineyard to protect their vines. I honestly thought that it meant in between the rows, so we stood along the outside. We were then approached by this man who was demeaning, rude, and honestly completely ignored what I was saying as I apologized for misreading the sign. As we left, the woman from the tasting room, who has always been friendly and welcoming, was very apologetic for his behavior, however we cannot return to such a place where a supposed owner would talk to people in the way that he did. read more

I fell in love with several of the wines but decided to only buy two bottles so I would come back and buy more. This is an absolutely beautiful venue with wines that have a very distinct character and beautiful labels. I have seen criticism about the no dogs and the wedding venue not allowing extra time pre date for rehearsals and other time to prep. Unfortunately, when dog bites happen and owner can't take the liability on. For weddings, you are renting the venue for the day. Not for the weekend. It isn't that complicated in this venue to predict what needs to happen. The winery has a beautiful tasting room. I love the simple decor that is filled without sales items. The decor compliments the natural outside beauty. The grounds are gorgeous. The parking easy. The location overall so scenic. Love the music and ease of being here. It's amazing to have a winery in this small town I grew up in. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the barn is adorable- really beautifully constructed. We came here for a wine tasting on a Sunday afternoon, had a tasting and brought some cheese and crackers to enjoy with our favorite glass of wine from the tasting. We met other customers on the outdoor patio and had a fantastic afternoon. The wine was really yummy and we took a couple bottles to go. The bottles are a little expensive but the wine was worth it and we can never leave empty handed. The employees were really friendly and conversational which I think is a must during a tasting. We will definitely be back. We hear Friday's they have live music! read more

I'm extremely disappointed with this winery. My husband and I decided to try something different, so we decided to stop by Heartstone winery. The building is nice and the smell of cider was lovely. As we walked into the building a older land and a younger guys asked if if they can assist us. The older lady helped us since the younger guy was assisting 2 other ladies. We decided to do the wine tasting ( just like the group of 3). There isn't any sweet wines which is the first negative. We finally decided on a couple of samples (you're given an option of 5). Out pours we're extremely small. It was very difficult to get a connection with the wine because they don't offer any crackers, nuts, etc.. in between the samples. The ladies beside us received generous samples and left happy paying the same as my husband and I. I was not only disappointed with the flavors of the wine but the pours were disappointing. Everyone should be treated the same and if a company offer a one tasting, the pours must be as equal as the charge. I'm very disappointed and on my way to another location! read more

I booked a baby shower for 9/2021.  The place is very nice and thought it was perfect for the shower.  I spoke with Walt the owner when setting up the date and time. When speaking with Walt he was very nice and got back to me quickly when I contacted him. He gave me the options of 12-3 or 1-4. He said no one was after me that day so either time was good.  I picked 1-4.  As I was ordering the invitations online I called Walt again just to confirm the time and he confirmed 1-4.  I also had another person with me that heard it. He said that I could come and taste the wine before the shower so I can choose what wines would be served. When I got there the wife told me my time was 12-3 which it was not. Then they said they had a party at 5 and could not change my time. I went with my daughter in law and when the wife (can't remember her name) served us and as she poured wine in my glass she told me "to drink some and then pour from my glass into my daughter in laws glass"!  During covid! Are you kidding me!! Now here's the bad part...I was told I had to bring my own trash bags for the trash. The day of the shower when we were getting ready to leave the owner's wife told me I HAD TO TAKE THE TRASH HOME WITH ME!  I have never heard of renting a place for $400.00 and then having to take the trash home with me. They can't dispose of the trash!! I would not suggest anyone to book this place without getting EVERYTHING in writing from them. I will never go back and won't recommend it to anyone.  I'm sure that they will deny all this but people at the shower heard all this and them telling us to take the trash with us. read more

Showed up and took a look around. We were planning on enjoying some wine and music, but before we got the chance we were rudely kicked out due to missing a small 8"x8" sign asking people not to walk into the vineyard. There was also a group of people sitting in front of the sign and the vineyard was not roped off. We only popped in for a moment and were walking out to buy a bottle of wine when we were met by a short rude man with grey hair and glasses demanding we leave or else he would "make a scene". He was very irate and short fused. Very unprofessional and uncomfortable for both my girlfriend and I. He could have explained or handled it in a more professional manner. True, we made a mistake and missed the sign but the situation should have been handled in a better way. Sad we had to leave the group of friends we had brought. read more

If I could leave a zero star review, I would. The amount of disrespect the owner of this place has for paying customers is absolutely disgusting. Planning a wedding in a crunch, during a pandemic and losing power two days before was very stressful. The wedding was scheduled yesterday Saturday, August 8, 2020. Normally you would think to go to your venue the day before to rehearse for the biggest day of your life. In the eyes of Walt, the owner of Heartstone, he was appalled to think that we could rehearse for 20 minutes. He pointed in the grooms face and said, "I don't give a shit about your wedding, this is my business" and made everyone leave with no opportunity to rehearse. Meanwhile, we were there buying bottles of wine trying to help his business, he states, "you are interfering with my business and paying customers." I had to watch a 27 year old grown man cry the day before his wedding in complete stress worried about this unorganized occurrence. It's truly sad that this place has great potential but is owned by someone who truly doesn't have a heart. The entire wedding party, friends and family will be hearing about this and will never step foot in this place ever again. read more

After a wonderful first visit to the winery last year I was eager to go back this summer, however I was greatly disappointed. While the view is stunning, you are unfortunately confined to the small fenced in patio area. I always enjoy walking around the vines and taking pictures etc. when I stepped foot onto the grass area I was yelled at and asked to get away from the vines. The older woman working was very rude and abrupt with every interaction. She very rudely let us know that we stayed 2 minutes past their official closing time and proceeded to wait in the parking lot until all the cars left, while staring at us from her own car. Not to mention she demanded the glasses back after we bought multiple bottles of wine. Columbia is my hometown and I would love to support it but due to this negative experience and this woman I will not be back. read more

This is truly a pleasant space. The patio is scenic and offers a very mellow "vibe." The building and the arbor are both works of art and aesthetically pleasing. Although I wasn't a fan of the Pinot Noir, the Brianna (white) and the Frontenac (Red) were exceptional. Friday music is a bonus.
