I was very surprised by this winery, as it's the first one where I've enjoyed all the reds. By nature, I don't care for most reds but the two they had on their tasting menu were both delicious (Mardi Gras Red and Fawn Brook Red). My favorite was the Mardi Gras White, which was a little heavy but bright and "bouncy", I could definitely see it sipping it while partying down Bourbon Street. The winery has outdoor and indoor seating with ample parking available. The bathrooms are very clean but a little small. The hosts, who happened to be the owners, were fun and talkative, and provided interesting conversation and background information on the wine and winery. read more

I came to Chateau ale Gari with very high expectations based on my friends feedback, but I was not impressed. All the wines included in the tasting (June-July 2019) was not to my taste. They were either very dry or tart. What I learnt is that they constantly change the wine included in the tasting. There are plenty of indoor seating and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Stay away from this failing vineyard. Upon arrival, the grape vines were all dead and had a hand painted signed with the owners name on it. All the weeds are over grown, piles of firewood within photographic view next to the outdoor patio and a dead tractor 50 yards from the venue. It doesn't stop there. Gary had told us that we could only have two roads beer and Connecticut only. That would have been fine if Gary had gotten the beer cold enough before the guest arrived at 2pm. Gary didn't put the beers in the wine fridge until 1:15. The day before the commercial kitchen was loaded with dishes from his family. Reason being is that his family lives off the room to the left of the bar. There tooth brushes on the counters and dirty dishes everywhere. The day of the wedding the food was served cold, no steak knives and the steak was practically raw. I looked up and saw everyone stabbing and cutting their porterhouse with butter knives. Someone asked for a knife and the one staff member said if we have any. We also had to cut and serve our own wedding cake because Gary told the single staff member not to. This place was wonderful! Went last weekend with a group of friends. It has a lot of space and was not crowded by any means. The owner Gari was there guiding us through the wine tasting and he was really fun to talk to. Their white wines tended to be on the sweeter side but their red wines were nice. One of the red wines even came with a chocolate pairing! After the tasting, we bought a bottle and sat outside on their front patio which was really nice. That night they were also having live music in the back room but we did not have the chance to hear that. My friends and I will definitely be back. It's open year round as well so even during the winter months we can come and enjoy. read more

I had my Bridal Shower here last weekend in the big room. The space is beautiful and large enough to accommodate catering, gifts, cake, etc. We were able to have 30 people comfortably with lots of room for social distance. There is a large patio off the space as well that we would have used if it was warmer outside. Overall, a nice venue for an event. read more

Stumbled upon this gem while working in the area and couldn't be happier that we did. The whites and reds were fantastic. They have a pineapple wine slushie that although very sweet was refreshing on a hot day. Owner was friendly and welcoming, as well as the young woman behind the counter. The wine tasting room only opened last weekend and much of the outdoor landscape is still under construction, but it's well worth a visit. I've admittedly been underwhelmed by all but a few Connecticut wines in the past. Chateau Le Gari is making solid reds and whites. I was impressed enough to take some home! The tasting room is a beautiful space, and they're working on a second outdoor patio, as well as rehabbing an old pavilion adjacent to Fawn Brook. In another year, I'm assuming the property will look a lot different and for the better. For $5, you get to taste 5 of their reds, whites, and a rose, plus two wine slushes. The slushes were refreshing and not cloyingly sweet. Glasses of wine run about $7 each. Very light snacks are available to purchase: hummus, cheese, etc. Chateau Le Gari is a welcome addition to the area and I can't wait to see how the property progresses over time! read more

I found this place online it looked like fun and Gari didn't disappoint.. Awesome owners, pleasure to talk to. This building was just remodeled and the outside of the property is still growing.. Inside the main building there is a tasting room, two big banquet rooms and a large patio outside. In the back of the property there is another large building used for additional entertainment.. During all of this hard work they have been making good wines, we got a bottle of the red table wine. It will be fun to see this place grow. read more

I would like to preface this by saying my review is not of the establishment itself but of my interactions with those managing it. In preparation attending an event here, I had made an inquiry, both for the event I was attending and because I was considering this venue for a fundraising event. The response was curt, dismissive, and inattentive. The question was regarding a genuine health risk concern, and the response made it perfectly clear it was not a concern to them, and meant to make me feel silly for asking. Unfinished exterior grounds surround one of the newest additions to our CT wine trail. However the interior side room incorporates wood craftsmanship tabletops offering plenty of seating for the time you spend with your picnic snacks and a bottle of le Gari wine. The wines are fruity and the labels uninteresting. Aren't we often initially drawn to a wine by its label? Love it. I'm biased I guess because I live up the road. Gary, the owner, previously founded Priam Vineyards and was their wine maker for years and I was hooked on his wines when at Priam. This location is spacious and the wines are decent. His work at Priam was top shelf. My sense is they are just getting started and lots is on the horizon for Chateau Le Gary. Driving up we were not expecting much, as the vines are minimal and the building is simple. Walked in to a friendly, warm atmosphere where the owner was pouring. So nice and the wine was wonderful! We actually booked our dinner already for Valentine's Day. I like a sweet white, so I got the Mardis Gras White. My husband likes a dry red and he enjoyed the selection they suggested. So disappointed in this winery. It's like being in a musty basement with mismatched furniture. We tried the new vintage red. It was honestly the worst "wine" we've ever tasted. We bought a $22 bottle (without tasting) which was a big mistake. None of us could take more than 3 sips. My advice is don't waste your time coming here. If you're in the area, get a bottle of red at the lovely Country Roads Package store to bring home instead. read more

What a beautiful venue. It's winter and our party this weekend was just perfect. A warm wood burning stove, cozy furniture and the most friendly host you could hope for! There was plenty of room for our party plus the many guests that just came to enjoy the atmosphere. I can't say enough about how friendly and welcoming everybody was. I'll be coming here forever. Aurelia is very knowledgeable about their wines and processes and Gary is a delightful host.
