You can trust her with your most precious garments - she will treat them with care and will always ask before making any decisions. Heather altered my large wedding gown sewed cups into my rehearsal dinner dress, and, took up the gem of a fully beaded/sequined maid of honor dress. She went above and beyond and let me borrow an antique bustle hook for my wedding day. Additionally, she allowed me to ship my wedding gown from the store, directly to her house so I didn't have to worry about it sitting on my porch while I was at work. When it came time to ship my dress again for my destination wedding, Heather helped me repackage it in the original box. Truly went above and beyond what was expected! During our first appointment we discussed the alterations I wanted and an approximate cost. She has a careful, meticulous eye and was great at pointing out the way the fabric lay on my body. All of her alterations came out exactly as promised (bust cups, hem, bustle, belt, bringing in the fabric so it fit me exactly). Heather did 2 alterations for me, 1 for my wedding dress and 1 for my formal cultural dress in May. She was great to work with and, in my opinion, affordable prices. I know every seamstress has to look at the dress to really determine how much it's going to be but let's just put this into perspective. My dress needed 4 layers of hemming (ball gown, no train, organza material) and the zipper readjusted. I put away $500 in anticipation for it and it cost less than that. I know I can't speak for every kind of fabric, how much fabric there is, dress train, time, beading etc etc but if you've got a realistic estimate in your mind and then go see Heather, she'll give you a realistic estimate. My cultural dress was made-to-order by another dress maker and she made it too small in the shoulders for me. Heather let the seams out, rushed it, and was still under budget. I couldn't tell where the original seams were, she moved each of the 20 snap buttons and it fit perfect afterwards. Heather was great to work with and was calm. I freaked out about my budget (hence my continuous mention of cost) but if you've got a realistic cost in mind, Heather will give you a realistic estimate. Go see her, you won't be disappointed. I am writing as the groom of an unhappy Bride to be. Heather did not discuss or even mention any pricing/estimate until after she spent over 2 hours with my fiancé (which is ridiculous). After the fitting she then brought up a price that would give most "sticker shock". My fiancé wasn't planning on paying what she quoted. Heather then got very nasty and asked for payment at an hourly rate for the work she had done. Which my fiancé paid under the pressure. Heather then took all of the pins out and said "Good luck, you'll need it. Wherever you go won't be as good". Had we had more time to process everything and get over a possible simple case of buyer's remorse, we probably would have went with Heather's Place. Awful customer experience in the end. You would hope she understands the importance and vulnerability of a bride to be. Hopefully she was just having a bad day. Would not recommend! read more

Very high-quality tailoring in a lovely light-filled studio. Everything is exceptionally clean; a bit cluttered, but very clean. Heather is a master. She has tailored many articles of clothing for me; all were done perfectly. I travel extensively in my career and must always look very polished. I count on Heather to take my clothes and really make them fit me to a "T". As others have noted on reviews in Yahoo and Angie's List, Heather's not the cheapest option around. She was amazing to work with and gave great advice on all kinds of thing regarding dress care, steaming, etc. I'm not familiar with what wedding alterations normally cost, but I would say her prices are very reasonable. I cant say I had a great experience having my wedding dress redesigned. Although she did execute what I wanted... this special moment was definitely ruined when she went over my budget with out explanation. When I went for my final fitting I was not prepared for the final cost ... which you can only pay cash which she also did not mention. So I dont really know who walks around with close to $1000 in cash but I dont. Not to mention I started working with this woman in feburary and saw her every 6 weeks... several times she forgot that my father has passed just a year before that and brought him up in several appointments as if he was still with us. At the end of the day I have my wedding dress the way I want but I had an awful experience with her as a person and feel that this once in a lifetime moment for me was ruined. My yes to the dress quickly changed to feeling embarrassed and taken advantage of. Make this women give you specifics if your budget is tight. read more
