I hadn't visited this place in quite some time, but I'm so glad I decided to go back. A few weeks before my visit, I left a voicemail but didn't hear back with a confirmation. I decided to call again on a day they were open, and I received an immediate response. I went to celebrate a friend's birthday, and we were warmly welcomed when we arrived. From there, we had a wonderful tea service along with delicious food. There weren't too many tables occupied during our visit, so the noise level was low aside from the conversations taking place around us. It made for a very relaxing and enjoyable experience. I started with the soup of the day, which I really enjoyed. I then had the Dartmouth, which included an assortment of tea sandwiches, a freshly baked scone (I chose the pineapple coconut), some desserts, and a two-cup pot of tea. Everything was delicious, and I ended up bringing my pastries home to enjoy later. Heath remains my favorite tea house in Massachusetts. We stumbled on this place entirely by accident and it was a fabulous accident! The restaurant is super cute, bright and comfortable. There's a good selection of tea, scones, tea sandwiches and other pastries and lunch foods. If you ordered either the tea sandwich selection or the tea service with sandwiches you get a selection of six sandwiches. on the day we were there we got chicken salad, cucumber, strawberry and cream, ham, tuna, and egg salad. The Thanksgiving sandwich was also amazing - possibly the best I've had. Parking is very generous and easy as this is a bit out of downtown. Everything about this place was fun! read more

Amazing dining experience. Has gluten free choices for celiacs. Best home-made scone I ever had. They also make nice sandwiches. The inside is small, but very fancy. The staff was extremely knowledgeable about the area and was very friendly. The bathrooms were the cleanest and most extravagant of any privately owned restaurant establishment I have ever been to. Only part that suffers here are the hours. They are opened brunch to lunch time, but they do have takeout and most of their food reheats well. They have a little antique shop in the basement. If you are in the rockport area, stop in and take a look. It will definitely be one for the scrapbook. read more

I cannot say enough about how wonderful Heath's Tea Room is! Last Sunday we hosted a bridal shower for my nephew's bride-to-be, and it could not have been more perfect. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but when you walk inside, it is quite fancy, without being pretentious. It's a traditional English tea room. The ladies that work here, are the sweetest and most helpful I have ever come across in a restaurant. They wanted the bride's experience to be as wonderful as we did! The atmosphere was perfect! It's a relatively small room, but it was plenty big enough for our 25 women. We easily could have had 40 guests. Beautiful, shiny wood floors, small gift shop, soft music playing in the background, the most beautiful bone china, silver tea spoons, and the food was amazing! We were able to choose our menu, and Kim was so helpful and patient with our questions. The BEST scones I've had in a very long time, and I've got a big Scottish family, so that says a lot! We also had many different teas to choose from for our guests. They even had the gift tables set up for us, so we didn't have to move things around. I have to give Heath's 5 stars! I have been to Heath's Tea Room once and will definitely go back again. The staff was attentive to dietary restrictions and they catered to my gluten-intolerant friend, to her delight. I went to Heath's Tea Room for Mother's Day and was not impressed. Though the atmosphere was quite pleasant, the actual food and service was just so-so. I knew when I saw the price that this was not going to be like tea at one of the large Boston hotels, but I still thought for the money, the menu looked pretty good. My parents and I decided to order the French Onion Soup and 3-tiered tea assortment. As we ordered, the waitress seemed a bit overwhelmed when taking our order, and also could not figure out who had ordered what when the food came to our table. When the soup came, we could tell just by looking at it that it wasn't made correctly. The soup looked light and cloudy, and tasted bland, like it had been watered down. We had to add lots of salt to give it some flavor. While we didn't complain, the table next to us did, and asked that the soup be sent back. When what I assume was the owner came over to their table, she said that normally the soup was great, but they had a different cook on today. I wasn't sure if I believed that as afternoon tea tends to be popular for Mother's Day - why would you let your best cook go? The 3-tiered assortment was just okay. The quantity of food was small. The sandwiches were just okay, and lacked some of the more creative selections I had seen elsewhere. The pastries were somewhat dry and not particularly tasty. Also, the traditional petits fours were left off the menu. However, the one really tasty portion of the meal was the scone. The scone was moist and flavorful. All in all, I would not return. While this restaurant is in a pretty area, I feel that if you are willing to spend just a few extra dollars, you could get a much better tea experience at a hotel in Boston or on the Cape. read more

Heath's Tea Room is a new addition to the Rockport scene. It has off-street ample parking (a rarity), and is wheelchair accessible. The decor hit just the right note - plenty of tables with lace tablecloths, mismatched chairs and teacups (this was extremely charming - very British tea room), and a selection of teas and accessories for purchase. Their menu offers a good selection that ranges from traditional afternoon teas to soups, salads & sandwiches. The home-brewed iced tea for $2.25 was delicious. My husband ordered the homemade Indian pudding with ice cream - delicious, with a very clear molasses flavor. I ordered an apricot scone with clotted creme. I was disappointed, as the scone did not have the right texture (flavor was good), and the clotted cream was not clotted - very liquid. In spite of that I would recommend Heath's Tea Room. They are clearly working out a few "new establishment" issues, and I think they are a great addition. read more

My wife and I have had lunch twice at Heath's. We give it 4 to 5 stars. Clean, attentive service, modest pricing, and most important, the food is excellent. I loved their version of shepherd's pie. And the tea's are first class. I wish they had a rooibus tea, but they don't, at least not yet. I hosted a small event (15 people) here on a Friday night. They were easy to work with, professional, and very accommodating. Served some delicious little snacks and great tea, all with bone china. Heath's strikes the perfect balance of of being a really nice place and yet still comfortable--this due largely to the friendly staff. It's a family run place, and you can tell they work well together. I know the other reviews are for tea times, but if you're looking to host an event (probably up to 45-50), you ought to give Heath's Tea Room a call. read more

Food and tea were excellent, in the traditional English Tea format. The full tea (tea sandwiches, scone, and cakes/cookies on a three- tiered tray with a pot of tea) was all homemade and tasted delicious. We also had a quiche - mushroom and sun-dried tomato - which was very flavorful. And the prices were very reasonable considering you'd pay double in Boston at say the Taj and I think the quality is better. Decor is light and not overly twee as many tea rooms are. Despite a sudden power failure in Rockport just before we arrived (on a hot and humid day), we had a lovely experience at Heath's. The décor is charming - an eclectic collection of chairs, tea cups, and teapots. The table settings are exquisite with traditional sugar tongs and tea spoons and lovely linen tablecloths. The décor is charming with skylights and wood floors with a fireplace for those chilly winter days. The food is made on site and was absolutely delicious. We had the full high tea (the Queen Catherine's Delight) and relished very bite! They have entrees as well as the tea service so this is a wonderful alternative to the very pricey restaurants in Rockport. I will definitely be back. read more

We made reservations, knowing we would be assured choice seating after a lovely few hours touring Rockport. Heath's was very welcoming, beautifully appointed, friendly staff, and excellent service. They paid attention to allergy concerns, and accommodated all of our needs. The food was delicious, and presented well on 3 tiered trays. And, the owner came over to our table and chatted with us, explaining the background of Heath's (great story) and we even got a quickie tour of the kitchen and met the chef!
