As far as coffee shops go, this one is a little far for me to frequent. However, the seating is ah-may-zing, and I will definitely make the trek out here for the comfy couches to hang out on and do work. There are a lot of fun drink options as well, though I think the plain black coffee is just average. This is a great stop in the downtown Gloucester area with lots of other stores to wander around near it. There's really only street parking around here, but it's not too hard to find a spot. Definitely come here for local cozy coffee shop vibes.

Such a sweet place in lovely downtown Gloucester. Nothing fancy schmancy. It's the kind of place where you feel at home. A big sofa, local artwork on the wall, good easy-listening music...cuppa Joe or herbal tea and you're all set to work on your laptop, have a chat, read or just soak up the calm energy. Make no mistake: this place ain't boring. It's obviously a popular place among locals who get their caffeine fix or herbal tea accompanied by any of a good variety of pastry. If I'd live here, I'd be a regular. Now I just grab every chance I have to sit down with a cuppa herbal tea and "plain cookie," to soak up the New England feeling of this place.

The Lone Gull is like a breath of fresh air when it comes to smaller coffee houses on the North Shore. With an ever-revolving list of specialty coffees, and now an expanded menu that includes panini sandwiches, plus an array of delicious breakfast staples and bakery goodies, it's hard to beat the Lone Gull. The staff is great, and have never messed up my order. Depending on how busy it gets, they're cordial, friendly, and chatty. The line can be long, but that's a testament to how awesome the place is. Tip- go in during mid-day to early afternoon and you'll avoid the going to/leaving work crowds. I used to go to the Lone Gull every day when I lived just up the street. Now, not as often because I just don't find myself in the West End portion of downtown Gloucester. You seriously have to try it though, especially if you're a coffee addict like I am. There is no way you'll be disappointed!

Was charged $10.75 + tax for chicken salad with a few stray cranberries, and a piece of lettuce. no salt, pepper, seasoning or even the walnuts that were stated on the menu. The turkey melt was supposed to come with turkey, swiss, bacon, tomato, and drizzle which I assumed was balsamic or something similar. It was a slice of turkey and cheese. Period. For $11.75 + tax. Same price as the sandwich i ordered, from the menu, which i ordered by the name as it is written, on the menu. Absurd. And waited 20 minutes, as they said that was how long it would take, and walked out of my way for this. Quality of turkey was good. Everything else about this experience was so incredibly disappointing.

With a ton of "regular" stuff for my boyfriend to enjoy. I am a classically trained barista and the lattes were honestly perfect. I couldn't believe the one I had was almond milk because it was frothed so good but she got it right for sure. People are always gonna be unhappy with stuff when they are unhappy, this is honestly a great spot.

Their menu is centered around the almighty biscuit - biscuits/scones are one of my favorite ways to inhale carbs but they can run on the too bread-y side of the spectrum. These were fantastic: delicate crumb, beautiful golden color, and sturdy enough to hold in all the sandwich fillings. I went with the classic breakfast egg sandwich (scrambled egg, cheese, and arugula) and added sausage. This was one of those rare situations where the bread vehicle outshined the fillings. The egg, while nice and fluffy (and tasted like real egg instead of the diluted mix I've had elsewhere), could have used some more seasoning and was begging for a healthy dollop of ketchup or hot sauce. The only thing that came through strongly was the salt crystals on the top of the biscuit. Tried a bite of my husband's chicken salad on a cheddar/onion biscuit and had the same reaction - the biscuit overpowered everything else. Not that I'm complaining. The bakery is on a side street off the busier, more touristy Rogers Street. I had this idea too late but next time I'm in Gloucester, I'd take a biscuit sandwich to the beach area along Western Ave. The cafe itself is very, very cute, with little nooks and crannies everywhere for seating and even a comfy looking couch. Bathroom was clean. We found a parking lot one street over in the other direction.

All 3 of us ordered the egg sandwich. It's cooked egg (like a puck) on 2 slices of plain bread with about 1 teaspoon of cheese that is such a small amount that it doesn't cover most of the egg. That's it. Not enough cheese, no butter, no salt, no pepper. Nothing. They don't even toast the bread. If we had tasked our 6 year old nephew to making us egg sandwiches, this is what he would hand us. My cousins had coffee. One hot and the other cold. Hot reportedly is pretty good and the iced is not very strong. I ordered an iced tea. When iced tea is made fresh from actual tea (a good thing), then sits in the fridge for 6 or 7 days (a bad thing), it gets a very distinctive stale taste and that's exactly what this iced tea had. It was old and stale. I threw it away and since the egg sandwich was so dry, I pulled a bottle of water I had in my beach tote to wash it down. My cousin asked the friendly staffer (super friendly, actually, so a shout out to them) for some salt and this turned into a task. She had to ask someone else and that person had to go off somewhere to get some from a plastic container. If you're going to serve unseasoned food, have salt available, please. I ordered a croissant, which was OK and my other cousin ordered a blueberry slab dessert that was smothered in so much icing that it was sickeningly sweet. We joked that eying it from the side, the icing was thicker than the pastry itself. One of us grabbed a knife and tried to scrape some off to no avail. It fell apart, none of us wanted any more and we tossed most of it. I like to support small businesses, but this was not a good experience for us.
