We parked on lower Ferry Street and walked into this VERA CAFE for directions and met Eren and BJ, the proprietors. After asking several questions and listening to these 2 young men educate us on Turkish coffee, I decided to sit and enjoy a Menengiç, a traditional Turkish drink made from wild pistachio seeds, not coffee beans. Naturally caffeine-free. Creamy. Nutty. Comforting. Traditionally prepared with milk and slow-roasted for a soft, earthy finish. My husband was already sipping his tahini latte yet LOVES all things pistachios and so, he truly loved the taste of the Menengic along with a small piece of baklava. I had to buy the green canister of Menengic so I can create a cup at home, especially during these winter days! The two young men are engaging, personable and kind hearted, immersed in their traditional style of coffee and beyond. The interior is new, clean, cozy, just big enough to sit and sip something special, so, stop by, say hello and welcome them to the downtown Easton neighborhood.
