I was in the area and decided to stop in. I was craving some rice and beans so I decided to order their roja vieja which came with rice, beans and plantains as side items. They served a right amount of food and it was filling. The shredded beef was a little salty, but it had great flavor. I did like the plantains and the rice didn't seem dry. Decent pricing. I have been eating here regularly for several years, so I didn't realize I had never written a review. Great Cuban food served in a diner feeling establishment. They feature a wide variety of menu items serving all day from breakfast through supper. I last visited after dropping my dog off at Petco for grooming. In my past life, I worked right down the street from the area in Apopka and I am so guilty. I rarely ever went as far unless I was going to TJMaxx... yes, I'm terrible. I ordered the steak medium rare with white rice and black beans . Not only did i not get the beans but the steak is well well done and it taste old the maduros taste like the ones you get at Walmart heat up from the Goya bag ! A Cuban bro and I stopped by here to get a quick dinner (almost a year ago ) and I absolutely loved this place! It's owned my a fellow member of our church and they served some pretty good food! Since I'm Chinese, I'm not sure what the steak dinner I got was actually called. The favorite part was the mamey, which is supposed to be a classic Cuban smoothie of a fruit of some sort. This great little restaurant is located in the strip mall towards the gym behind a bank. I felt it necessary to open with location because it's hard to find. They have an extensive menu and it includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. As well as pasteles but come early because they go fast. We tried the vaca fritta which is different because it looks more like a hash brown of beef but its delicious. We also had the churrasco (16oz) and was plenty to share. The food tasted great as always. I was just a little disappointed with the portion of the side dishes. I ordered tostones and I got 3 small ones. My side of yuca frita was also really small. My friend ordered maduros, and he got 4 tiny pieces that were burned to a crisp. That's my only complaint. I remembered they used to give you bigger portions on the side. I like this place! It's a little bit of a dive and has obviously been in the community a long time. While it is a Cuban café, please note that they don't serve pork here. It was mentioned in a local forum that the reason is due to the owners being Seventh Day Adventist. So keep this in mind. We came here for a late lunch (they serve breakfast too) and there were plenty of options you would find at a Cuban restaurant. My husband and I were famished so we both went with a platter option. The plates come with your choice of rice and plantain. I had the veggie steak with the congri and tostones. It was delicious. Very filling. My husband loved his steak and commented that the tostones reminded him of what he had growing up. This was very good, comfort food. The restaurant has a diner feel to it with booths and tables. The décor is a nod to Cuba and its culture. It's a place to dine and relax with family and friends as we observed with the parties around us.
