I grew up in Webster and this was a go to for special occasions and was always good. It's been about 30 years since I've been, and still a great special occasion spot. You must have a reservation for a Saturday dinner ! I called on Thursday and was lucky to get the very last spot for Saturday at 5pm for 2. The bar is open for walk in drinks, and I can see why they don't serve at the bar, outside, or takeaway on Fridays and Saturdays. It's very very busy. I read many reviews that were negative because of this and saw golfers turned away last night. Now, it's pricey but absolutely worth the price. As someone who was paying for sit down service, it was great to have the attention and food we deserved for the money. Our food was great. The garlic bread was delicious ( although it didn't look as good as it tasted) an rolls fresh. The homemade French and blue cheese dressing on the generous salads also outstanding. First time I ever had to take home an appetizer! No way I could eat it and eat my special of chicken artichoke french that was delicious. ( almost as good as mine) my partner also ordered that and we ended up taking 3/4 each of that home. Next time I'll know so we can share one of the yummy looking butterscotch sundaes. Those that say the decor is outdated, well maybe but it's all in good shape. (Only criticism is the chairs are slight uncomfortable as they lean way back. This food, setting, teamwork and atmosphere at Hedges is a Winner! When I told my friends that we were going up to Buffalo by way of the Finger Lakes I was told that I must make this my dinner spot, and WOW, I am glad I did!!! There is nothing like having a great meal while overlooking a body of water, in this case, Lake Ontario. The restaurant setting was wonderful... Space is large and spacious and the big windows really allowed the daylight to light up the restaurant. The server greeted us moments after the hostess sat us. She introduced herself and asked us to wait just a few minutes while she finished with a neighboring table. When she returned, moments later, she gave us the specials, took our drink order and gave us a few minutes to make up our minds. It seemed pretty easy for me as I went with the lobster bisque and Tuscany Seafood platter. Two choices that I was extremely happy with. The bisque was incredible. A thick, savory, tasty, and lip-smacking PERFECT. There were many pieces of lobster just waitng to be picked up with my spoon. The Tuscany seafood platter was nothing less than perfect. There was an abundance of various seafood all of which cooked perfectly. The pasta was also perfectly prepared. The sauce was a savory, lip smacking, put in a glass, I'll drink the rest of it incredible. Make sure that you try the 'Sunday' for dessert. This is one serious sunday and is easily sharable by two (and a third person if they just want a taste." Fabulous location with a gorgeous view of the Lake. I have not been to this restaurant in many years because I felt the food was mediocre and overpriced. Unfortunately there are not a lot of places in the Webster vicinity with good food so with out of town company I decided to try again. My friends visiting from NYC area are used to fine dining and I was afraid the cuisine would not be up to their standards. However everyone enjoyed their meal with no complaints or snide remarks. I had the strip steak that was cooked to my likely. My friend had the prime rib and steamed mussels. He cleaned his plate so well it might not need washing lol Appetizers were also quite excellent especially the crab cakes. The staff was very courteous and followed the COVID protocols to a T. My husband and I heard great things from people about Hedges and decided to go for our anniversary. Immediately upon walking up to the door, the smell of dead fish from the inlet was overpowering. We got drinks and sat outside while waiting for our table at the farthest point away from the inlet. It was a constant wafting of dead fish smell (or dirty diapers per my husband). After getting to our table my drink was dropped on the table by the busser spilling all over my husband's lap. A mistake that could easily happen so we weren't worried about it, but my husband's drink was also wrong. We ordered appetizers and heard the specials. By the time the server came to take our orders we learned that 3 of the 5 or 6 specials were now sold out. Two of which we planned to order. We had to rethink our entire entree selection and ending up going with a surf and turf option. When the food arrived there was this strange sour-dishrag smell.... we think it was a combination of the char grill and boiled seafood. It almost made me not be able to eat it. The filet and crab legs were pretty good, but the baked potato looked like it had been cooked and re-heated several times. It was inedible and had no toppings whatsoever. When we got the bill our jaws dropped. For the price it was absolutely not worth it. We spent more than we've ever spent at a restaurant for a mediocre at best experience, even with a drink and dessert being removed from the bill. For the absorbent cost of this dinner, we should have had the best tasting dinner and best experience of our entire life. Sadly, we will not be returning. It pains me to leave a bad review for this place because everyone who works here is so nice, but the food is so mediocre and it is so damn expensive for what you get. It's a beautiful spot, maybe I'd come here to sit outside and have drinks again in the summer, or to have cocktails in the bar because they usually have good live music and the bartenders are really nice, but again I spent close to $40 for two drinks with a tip which seems like a lot, and I just can't justify the price of the meal for the quality of the food.I could've gone to a high end steakhouse for the same price and gotten a meal that was 10 times better. Shame on me for not asking the market price, but I do think they should have informed me that a lobster tail was $85 before I got it as I was truly shocked to see the price when I got the bill. Not only that, but the lobster tail was overcooked and really not good. The bread basket is something they should be ashamed to serve- It seems to be previously frozen bread that is reheated and it looks like something that you get at some old grandma's house. Sides are underwhelming, old-fashioned, poorly seasoned. They have a seeming slam dunk at this location but the quality is just not there I'm very sad to say. read more

The hostess Carolyn was horrible and extremely rude I have been a returning customer x 14 years but won't be back! When we asked for a different table to accommodate our party the hostess Carolyn told us "did you come here for the view or the food?" We asked then could we wait until another table became available and were told "your family and older folks will not want to wait to have a late dinner, will they"? Hedges Nine Pile Point Restaurant Absolutely beautiful location and décor. The décor is "Old School" but that is what makes it special. Beautiful views of the lake and nice table settings. This is a white table cloth dining experience. Not many of these left. The Bartender, Al, was wonderful and personable. 4 beers and 3 cocktails = $94 and I left a $19 tip. Expensive but good value due to the ambiance and views (& Al). Dinner was terrible. For the price $465 for 5 people plus 20% tip would have been great if they didn't serve us platefuls of crap. Going to a place like this you expect high prices, but you also expect great food and service. 3 of our 5 guests got prime rib dinners. I've never seen 3 worse pieces of beef in my life. They gave us a nice large sharp serrated knife - the beef won the battle. I'm not sure that a Saws-All could have cut it. Mind you, this is prime rib. Dawn, our server, was pleasant but not too competent. The chef should be fired. Yes, I asked for a substitute of Garlic Mashed potatoes instead of the baked potato. Dawn informed me that they only had enough mashed potatoes for their specials and couldn't provide me with my choice. I accepted the baked potato. It was burned on the bottom and cold on the top. Did I mention the chef should be fired. First they serve me the toughest prime rib on the planet then match it with a half done on the topside and burned on the bottom potato. If a chef can't cook a baked potato and was incapable of boiling a few potatoes and mashing them with a touch of garlic - he should be drying cars down at the local car wash where he can't damage anything. Dawn, who appeared ok at first, told me that unfortunately sometimes they get a bad prime rib. Well, we got 3 pieces of prime crap. At no time, did she make any offer to accommodate her customer and offer a discount or free dessert. Being a waitress is hard work but it doesn't take a brain surgeon to try to make your customer happy when they've been taken to the cleaners. Yes, we gave her a 20% tip, just because we aren't jerks and we know all restaurant workers need money to support their families. We have been loyal customers of Hedges for decades and we drove all the way from Canandaigua. The visit was a great celebration of my Mother-in-Law's 85 birthday. However, I will never eat at Hedges Nine Mile Point again. I might stop in to see the view and have a drink at the great bar with Al, but with the quality of the food and service I doubt they will be in business much longer. By the way, Nolan's in Canandaigua has far better food, far better service and it is much less expensive. Additionally, the new Lake House's Rose Tavern in Canandaigua has similar high prices but their food is wonderful and the value is definitely money well spent. This is one of those local-legend restaurants that I've heard people talking about over the years. I usually didn't have an occasion to dine here or it just never made my list of requisite dining destinations. However, that all changed yesterday when I finally set foot in Hedges' lounge area to listen to a smooth blues trio. The low lighting, marine decor, soothing music, and evening setting sun all combined to make the experience quite enjoyable. If I were to return, I would definitely partake in more of the restaurant's cocktails. The bar area seemed well stocked and low-key lively. I ordered their Summer Stormy cocktail and I liked it a lot. For my entree, I ordered the fish fry. I think I should've gone with the French Cut Veal Chop, though, which is what I was immediately drawn to when I first opened the menu. However, as soon as the waitress mentioned the fish fry as one of the restaurant's specials, I fell for it. It's just one of those old habits I fall back on; I can't help but want to compare different establishments' take on the traditional Friday fish fry. Although the piece of fish on the plate was strikingly big and long, its taste was so-so. This will be a long review. I hope that you will enjoy it and be informed by it. In July 1972 my sister and brother-in-law were married. Their wedding reception was held at Hedges Nine Mile Point. So, when it came time to give them a 50th anniversary party I wondered, is Hedges still open? It is. Living in Florida, I had no problem coordinating everything long distance with Lu at Hedges. Lu was responsive to all of my inquires. She followed up and answered all of my questions and had great ideas and suggestions. I changed my mind many times and she patiently worked me through everything. The day of the party we worked out the fine details and she even came back after her work hours to make sure that everything went as planned. It did. Hedges, a local treasure, is run by Thad Swift, a fourth-generation owner of the establishment. This place was started in 1928 on Norton Street in Rochester, NY and got its name from the row of Hedges in front of the restaurant. When you go ask about how that row of Hedges was used during prohibition. Hedges has been at its current location in Webster since 1954. During planning stages for the party, whenever I called if Lu didn't answer the phone Thad did and from the beginning both were warm, friendly and welcoming then remained attentive the day of the party to the end. The setting -Lake Ontario is dear to my heart, has been, since I lifeguarded on Ontario Beach in Charlotte in the 1970's. The Florida shoreline is fine but there is nothing quite like Lake Ontario for me. From Charlotte to Durand Eastman to Irondequoit Bay, to Webster Park, there is a warmth and nostalgia associated with all of that for me as I am sure it is for many of you readers. Now picture the most perfect setting for a restaurant on the shores of Lake Ontario, in Webster with an outdoor terrace and beautiful views of the sunset - It's Hedges Nine Mile Point. Back in July 1972 at my sister's wedding, there was no air conditioning so the question that nearly every guest asked was. Is it air conditioned now? I am happy to report that it is! The Food - That's the reason we go to a restaurant, right? There is no more discerning foodie than me. I am rarely pleased with the food at a restaurant. I read all of the reviews before booking and frankly, I had concerns. I know that people are more likely to write a review when they had a bad experience then when they have had a good experience. I think that's the case here. The food was excellent. Before dinner, I opted for wine, beer and soft drinks on the terrace with the antipasto platter for all of my guests. I had low expectations for the antipasto, but I wanted the experience of drinks on the terrace overlooking the lake. Was I wrong! This huge platter that was replenished was chocked full of high-quality, meats, cheeses and other savory, tasty selections. So, I thought, this is going well. Fingers crossed with the dinners. My guests ordered: 20 8 oz Prime Filet Mignon; 8 Crab Cakes; 7 Chicken Brittany; and one Vegetable Risotto. I didn't necessarily believe what my guests told me about how good their food was, of course they are going to tell me it was good - I looked at their plates after dinner. Most were empty, what was left over they took home. I was most concerned about the Filet's. All said they were cooked to their request and were tender, delicious and most important, consumed. The other entrees were equally well received. Dinner started with a really delicious tomato basil bisque followed by bread and salad. We had a champagne toast - poured just at the right time. An Italian wedding in Rochester, requires pastries from Savoia Bakery as does a 50th wedding anniversary. Thad and Lu accommodated me there too. Cost - Let's face it all costs are up but when Lu called me with the final bill total, I was blown away at how reasonable the charge was. The view of the lake is beautiful, but unfortunately, that is where the positive review ends... My husband and I went to Hedges for dinner, with my husband ordering off the menu while I ordered the Chilean bass special which came with risotto and broccoli. I asked the server how the fish was prepared and she told me it was pan seared. When my meal arrived I thought maybe they had accidentally given me a kiddy portion because the fish was no more than 4 inches long and 3 inches wide, over 2 tbsp of risotto and 2 small pieces of broccoli. The fish was not good quality, with a mealy texture. When our bill came, I saw my husband's eyes widen to the size of saucers because the fish special was $52! When he asked the waitress if that was correct, her only reply was to point her finger in my face and say "You asked me the pice!". Now, as I mentioned earlier, I asked her how it was prepared and she told me, but I did not ask the price and she did not tell me. You can say I should have asked, but the point is, if it was a dish worth $52, I would not have minded, but when I could have saved $50 and simply gone to McDonald's for a filet -o - fish sandwich and had pretty much the same quality and NOT had someone's finger in my face while chastising me, I would have preferred to have done so. I did not even get into how the side salad and dinner rolls were like what you would get on the side of a Knights of Columbus take out fish fry dinner. Needless to say, we will never go back and never recommend this restaurant. We go out to eat very often and we have never experienced the rudeness of staff, unreasonable prices and poor quality food all at once before the way we did at Hedges. Huge disappointment, and I wish I could give half a star (only for the view). read more

Never order the turkey dinner! They serve large SLABS of turkey, that looks and tastes like its processed meat. Looks and tastes gross. The green beans are hard, the stuffing is hard, and everything was luke warm, not hot. Left 90% of the food on plate, but waitress never asked if there was a problem. I should have spoken up, but it was mothers day and was treating my family to a nice time. Everybody else had steak or chicken french and were happy. You can't beat the view at hedges in the summertime however we were disappointed with the food. My boyfriend and I have the filet cooked medium rare but it came out rare, very rare. We would have been sent back but our waitress only came to check on us the first minute after it was dropped off and then not again until the end of the meal so my boyfriend at home and I ate maybe less than a quarter of mine so my boyfriend a has and I ate maybe less than a quarter of mine. She apologized and gave us a free dessert but when our bill came out my steak was still on it I told her I did not eat it and that I wasn't paying for it which I shouldn't of had to do. I didn't like that the steak came with a start and a salad but disappointed that they don't have mashed potatoes, who doesn't have mashed potatoes? The other couple that came with us, the girl really loved her salmon and the guy didn't really like his meat which was pork chops I believe or maybe a porterhouse. I take it that there is some history with this restaurant. I have no idea what it is. I'll have to find out. As for service and food; - The bread was great - The salad was lacking and typical of a low budget hotel banquet - Our server was relatively efficient but not at all engaging - The entree choices were good and we fared well with our selections - The Seafood Tuscany was outstanding and well worth the visit - Service was prompt, not rushed Given the lake, the property and the overall "feel" during this visit, I can surely recommend Hedges. The seafood Tuscany is a heavenly blend of wine-based Alfredo and shredded shellfish. The filet is likely range-raised and succulent. Don't mix-n-match though; pick the surf or the turf and stay with it. The decor reminds me of Cape Hatteras vacations - everything is ocean-oriented & rustic. The service is good if u can catch them on a slow evening - prices are the highest around, between $24.00-$29.00 per entree. But if you have a special celebration and are looking for a place with a nice atmosphere, outstanding classical seafood fare and price is no option, Hedge's is the place. I ate there over the weekend, two of us ordered the 12oz Kobe burger, medium rare. when the food arrived, both burgers were borderline burnt and the size of hockey pucks. If you're going to charge $27 for a hamburger, you better make damn sure it's perfect and honestly, if a restaurant can't cook a burger properly, then I doubt they can get anything else right. Went to Hedges 9 mile point for dinner with family a group of five. Our meals were mediocre at best. The service was very good. We had drinks, salad, dinner and coffee appropriately two hours, the manager walked over to our table told us that she needed us to leave because customers were waiting for a table. As we exited it was noticeable that several tables were leaving at the same time. Our bill was around $380 so we were spending money at the restaurant. We have been there many times in the past and have rented the party room for special events. The shame is this restaurant is walking distance for my relatives which makes it convenient to meet there. I am a very long-time customer of Hedges. I have to say up front, the servers and bartender were wonderful. That said, my friend and I, last Friday afternoon, ordered the Tuscan Seafood. Very pricey. But it was a special occasion. When I got home I felt very sick. Sweaty. Nauseous. Throwing up. When I contacted my friend she said that she was fine. I thought I was coming down with something. But the next day my friend decided to eat her leftovers and a half hour later, she too became ill with the same symptoms. I wanted to handle this differently, not just write a bad review. Feeling it was the right thing to let Hedges know personally. I called them to let them know what happened. A woman identifying herself as the floor manager listened to our experience in her restaurant. She mumbled an insincere: "sorry, I'll tell Thad." She never asked me for my name, my phone number or an email address so that the owner could contact me in person. What did she do? The manager hung up on me. Decided to start with a shrimp cocktail that was tasty. Onto entrees- we had the prime rib which was tasty and well portioned with mashed garlic potatoes and broccoli. This was my first visit in a decade and Hedges did not disappoint. Friday night at 630 was packed and we fortunately had a dinner reservation. Ordering a drink at the bar is a challenge as guests did not want to move out of the way. But the bartender was friendly and quick making my martini with the right amount of vermouth and olive juice. Drinks are over priced, one round with 20% tip costs $30. My entree of haddock casino was well seasoned and a large portion. The ceasar salad was also a large portion and I was given alot of anchovies. The server and busser were very attentive , no complaints on service .Our table was unfortunately next to a busser station. So we watched the staff continuously scrape plates and stack dishes on serving trays all night. But the view!! What makes this venue stand out are the views of Lake Ontario while dining. And after dinner we took drinks outside and watched the sunset relaxing in Adirondack chairs. It was a great choice for a holiday weekend dinner. read more

Was always impressed in the past with the service, food and view, however, I am very unimpressed with the service and management now. I made a reservation before Mother's Day for a special occasion and table for 5, tentatively for 8. Was told to call back the next day. Was put on hold and told that I would be called back. I was never called back. Tried two more times, each time put on hold and would call me back, "too busy and had to talk to manager". Never called back. Last try was told can't book the other three people! Very disappointed. Taking my business elsewhere to a place that appreciates a customer who wants to go there so badly they would call back three times, well in advance. I would get fired if I did that in my business. You're fired Hedges! Lots of other restaurants to go to who appreciate their dedicated customers. read more

Great building, atmosphere and location. However the food is basic and bland. Nothing tastes or looks fresh.

Beautiful lakefront restaurant and excellent seafood. After dining we were able to sit on the numerous outdoor benches overlooking the lake and enjoy a drink. Made for an extra enjoyable evening. Very nice they left this natural view and a park like setting to enjoy a cocktail. read more

The pluses: 1. It's the only nice restaurant on the water in Rochester. The back is beautiful, but don't go all the way to the sea wall because if you look over you will see all the garbage that they don't take the time to pick up. 2. They have live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. There is a 'bar' around the piano that seats about 8. This is the main reason I go there. 3. The food is decent. The negatives: 1. WAY overpriced. $115 for crab. My friend ordered it and when it was served we both looked at each other and our jaws literally dropped. There were only 3 legs. Granted, they were decent sized legs, but WTF? Only 3? So that's $33 per leg and $8 for the dinner salad and $8 for the baked potato. It was just so so. I've eaten there about a dozen times and it's been hit or miss. Over all pretty good but not for the price. 2. Food presentation. For the price you would expect some sort of plate presentation. Nope. Not here. Nothing artistic or aesthetically pleasing about the presentation. 3. Staff is friendly but not professional. They apparently have never been trained on etiquette. The reach in front of the guests to pick up plates from another guest when they could simply take a step over and not have to reach in front of anyone. Granted, there are some seats that the server can not get to without reaching in front of a guest, but they should at least say 'excuse my reach' so you know an arm is going to be reaching in front of you. They are overeager to clear a table. This makes it difficult to sit leisurely for a few minutes and have conversation while finishing up your meal. They also run around frantically rather than professionally and because they are seemingly always in a hurry, they will cut you off if you are using the restroom or as you leave. I have yet to have one let me go first - they always feel they are the more important one. 4. Drink prices are a little high. $12 for a simple well tequila cocktail. I will continue to go there for the Friday / Saturday entertainment and the view but will no longer have a meal there. Too many other options with food that is just as good or better but much less expensive. read more

This place is horrible I'll never be back. Food was god awful. And it's not worth the money. I weather go to McDonald's.

Hedges is consistently terrific. The husband and I especially enjoy their fabulous Caesar salad and the prime rib. And he cannot leave with his small , HUGE butterscotch sundae! On the other hand, I love creme brûlée. Our waitress suggested I order the large because the small was VERY small . Well, may I add that the LARGE is very small ! I was shocked and asked her if she mistakenly served the small and she said no. I am embarrassed that the wait staff has to front for this pitifully tiny dessert . You can do better than this, Hedges. Make one size, make it larger and make it right . Your regulars deserve better than this. read more

The seafood here is absolutely amazing. The food is cooked very well. Personally, I do not like getting sea food from restaurants because I'm afraid of food poisoning. When I came here I was not afraid to order fish at all. The ambience and the restaurant is formal and very nice. There is a view of the lake and it is very beautiful at sunset. There is live music in this place would be great for dates that you want to impress. The service is good. No complaints. read more
