Very Disappointed for a place in such a beautiful setting. We arrived early so we could sit outside and have a drink before dinner. This was fine and we relaxed. Dinner never met our expections. This place is stuck in 1950. Menu was expensive,food was heavy. I had the pork chops,presentation was out of the 50's with a baked potato and hunk of broccoli as side. Salad was served in plastic dish and oil and viniger were put on table in bottles. Wife had small filet which was tough. Food was heavy and not much taste. For the prices we expected better. Service was slow and uneven Won't go back which is sad since we live close by. They need to up date there menu,offer light dishes and get rid of plastic salad bowls. Starting off with good points.... Lovely property.. Going for just cocktails , there is plenty of outdoor sitting in nice chatting groups. Lots of cocktail servers! Dinner? Meh! Dining room just reminded me of being in a banquet hall. Bread...kind of a greasy weird garlic bread, salads ... Ugh! Dressings bland and clearly bottled. Entrees.... I had the vegetable pizza .... I love this place but the prices are outrageous. One time my brother got a surf and turf at market price for 70$. Big mistake that was. I've been here multiple times. The ambiance I'd say is great. Nautical theme inside, out back is a lawn with chairs and gazebos on the lake, it's beautiful at sunset. We always try to go a little early to have a drink out back. Onto the food: last night was the first time I feel the price was fair, I got half duck on special for $21. Before, I've gotten the salmon which is a little small but the sauce was delicious and the filet mignon, which I enjoyed. The Tuscan seafood pasta was alright, I always feel that pasta dishes are mostly filler even though this has a fair amount of seafood. Service not great. We got out of a movie and wanted to stop in for appetizers and drinks. We called at 8:30 saying we wanted to come in and asked if they had live music? They answered yes, until 10:30 pm. We arrived at 9:05, and they would not seat us to eat as they said the kitchen is closing. We drove 20 minutes to get there. Frustrating to say the least. More frustrating that it states on their google business listing that they are open until midnight. The food, when we could get served in the past is just so-so. I came here for drinks, so this review does not include any actual dining experience. Overall, the drinks are reasonably priced. I had two gin & tonics and they were made well. The live music at Hedges is fantastic, and there is a bar around the piano so you can get right up close to the musician. We had date night here before BF moved back to Illinois. The location is gorgeous and we went right at sunset. The restaurant has a 90's nautical feel. It's definitely a "local" spot. The food was good however the gf options are limited. The night we went the server offered the rice...with "some pasta in it...so if you aren't real allergic..." I'm sorry....you either are or aren't allergic. Nonetheless...I'm glad we went. We won't be back for obvious (relocation) and preference reasons. read more

This has always been one of our favorite lakeside spots for boating & special occasions. Gorgeous property! We've taken the boys the last couple times for lunch and it's been great. We like to start with oysters & martinis ( any place where they come with a sidecar on ice).The seafood salad is loaded with lobster, crab & scallops - get the house dressing (creamy French). Boys have gotten the fish tacos off starter menu which they said were amazing & plenty to eat. (They look great two, big pieces of crispy fish topped with shredded red cable with sides of mango salsa & coleslaw).The fish fry on Friday is also very good. We were celebrating a birthday and there was four of us for dinner on a Wednesday night. The staff was very attentive and a dinner choices were confused and the server was quick to make things right. The crab legs were very good but expensive for the portion size. The scallops are served with greens(kale) and too bitter for my liking but I am sure some people may like them. Pasta Tuscan ( I am not sure on the name) had a lot of seafood and was cooked perfectly. Salads came out slowly, food came out slowly. It was hard to order drinks because everyone was just too busy for us. I went to Hedges last night for the first time in 30+ years. I had never been there for dinner, only lunch. I went with a large group and we purposely made later reservations so we could enjoy a drink outside and talk. You could not ask for a more beautiful setting. We were able to watch the sunset over Lake Ontario and there is ample seating outdoors even on a busy Saturday night. The drinks were a bit overpriced; $15 for a Manhattan, $10 for a glass of wine, $6 for a vodka and tonic and everything else somewhere in between. Service was a little bit slow and our server seemed flustered. She was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the seafood pasta which at $34 provided enough food for two people. It was packed with seafood. It could've benefited from a little more flavor but everything was cooked to perfection. Someone at my table got a simple hamburger with onion rings and said it was all excellent. Others seemed to enjoy their meals as well. Portions are large. The clams casino were very good and I liked the creamy consistency as opposed to a kind of a dry bread crumby texture as some restaurants do. The one comment made by everyone in my party was that they could not understand why they had no outdoor dining option. It was so lovely there that even with a window view it would've been so much more enjoyable if we had been able to eat outdoors. August 6, 2019 This is not about the food it is about Courtesy! This was a special Birthday Lunch for my husband. We had a reservation for 1:00 PM. He had never been there before so I wanted to treat him to a nice lunch which I know Hedges has whenever I've been there. We were seated in a few minutes. We ordered drinks. It took forever to get our drinks and the waitress explained that the bartender didn't know how to make it. We got our drinks at 1:30 and we ordered because we were very hungry. At that time it started to rain then a storm came it was quite violent. They lost power and now it is 2:00 and we haven't had a bite to eat. Long story short, they announced that they couldn't serve any more food it is now 2:20 and they would be giving us our checks for our drinks. Several people were outraged. I didn't want to spoil the day completely so I paid the bill with a tip in cash and left. I can't believe they wouldn't even cover the drinks! When I tell the story to family and friends they said I shouldn't have paid. I do regret it now. It was very cheap and small of the manager to do that after waiting 1 & 1/2 hrs. for nothing. read more

This is truly one of my favorite restaurants in Rochester. Luckily for us, it is right around the corner. The drinks are tall, the meals are superb and the staff is attentive (we especially love Jacque). If they have the clam special, order it! What was to be a lovely evening on the lake with international guests was a huge disappointment. We arrived at 7:30 and had planned to enjoy the sunset with drinks outside on Hedges's Adirondack-style chairs, followed by dinner. We had let our server know that we had made an 8:30 reservation, but after a long wait for our drinks bill, were told quite rudely that the kitchen was CLOSED. Why would they even take an 8:30 reservation if the kitchen closes by 8:40? It will be a long, long time before we return. read more

So we go for dinner 3 couples have drinks all's ok. Watch a table who was seated after us get their food no big deal. Second table gets food so I ask server what's going on. We're told waiting on well done filet. I say can I see a manager. MANAGER comes over tells me not to harass server and it our fault for ordering well done. Never this problem in multiple previous trips. Take it up with MANAGER again and it's still all my fault. This place has gone down hill in service and needs a new manager. Ok... Where to start.... We usually come here one time each year. Mind you, we go out to dinner on average 2 times each week, or over 100 times a year, so we can only tolerate the poor service and undervalued food 1% of the time. We went to the bar and ordered a vodka tonic, and a glass of wine. Also asked for a glass of water. $13.... Not terrible, but definitely on the high side.... Caught a little attitude from the bartender when we asked for water.... I think the snarky attitude was free. Checked in with the hostess and asked if it would be possible to get a spot by the windows to enjoy the sunset on Lake Ontario. She said she would see what she could do.... Again... The place was not crowded at all. Well... We got seated right next to a service station... Very noisy and distracting with limited view.... While there were window seats that were open. Ok... We let that slide... On to the food.... I ordered chicken French and my wife ordered chicken Diane. Got our salads... They were great. Approximately 5 minutes later (and about 1/4 of the way through our salads) our meals showed up... Wife commented that she was surprised the food showed up so quickly... No reaction from the waitress. She really should have taken them back and kept them warm.... Absolutely no reaction. Waitress came back and asked if our dinners were ok.... Wife was still eating her salad.... Total lack of attention. Bottom line.... The food is overpriced and the service is really bad. We did notice that what appear to be regulars seem to get a little more attention.... We've actually noticed that every time we've been here.... Not really a smart way to attract future customers.... I'd like to say that we won't ever come back, but, the view is so nice on a nice sunny evening, so I'm sure we'll get sucked back in and have an un-satisfying experience again next year.... But if you don't care about the nice view, there are so many better choices in Rochester. Sad... This could be a real gem with the location.... Doesn't seem like anyone cares.... read more

My husband and I went here for our 2 year anniversary tonight. I am a life long resident of Webster, my husband has only lived here since we were married. I have only been to Hedges once about 10 years ago so I didn't really remember nor could I appreciate the food at that time. Our dinner tonight was fantastic. From the service to the view and most importantly the food and drinks, every aspect was outstanding. After we finished our meals and paid the bill, we walked outside and finished our drinks at a table in the gazebo and watched the sunset. It was the perfect ending to a perfect evening. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a special evening to share with that special someone! read more

We've been there three times this year and last night (8/12/15) was the worst meal I had. I ordered the clams casino and it said stuffed with seafood. It was like soup on a shell.I ordered the Braised Beef Shortribs16 oz. serving, slow roasted in a rich red wine sauce Well short RIBS to me is with a bone which there was not. The view of the sun setting over Lake Ontario is extraordinary, and a pre-dinner beverage outside on a lawn chair, on a comfy couch on the patio, or in the gazebo, is a must! In addition to the funky, artistic hanging game fish, a pianist performs in the long bar/lounge area, inviting you to pull up a stool to enjoy an after-dinner beverage. Best of all is the hearty, simple steak and seafood menu. My personal favorite, clams casino, is loaded with seafood and bacon, ... served piping hot. My usual prime rib or filet, comes EXACTLY as I order it, along with crisp veggies, fresh salad, potato, rice or pasta with a zesty marinara. The desserts are huge, and prepared with local fruits.
