First off... this is first and foremost a bar, that serves food. Not a restaurant with alcohol. Make sense? That being said, we were in the port area and wanted to try something new for dinner. I've felt bad for Silks for years after two lake floods and a pandemic keeping them shut down. I wanted to give them my business so that they may recover. I did happen to order a beer... I like IPAs on draft and they offered something I hadn't heard of before. It was OK, but not anything I would order again. It would be nice if they had a local microbrew on tap. Most of the menu is as you would expect, "bar food". I ordered a French dip with an appetizer of onion rings. My wife got a taco salad and my mom got Mac salad. My French Dip was supposedly Red Osier roast beef and I must admit it was real good. I didn't touch the pickle or potato chips that came with it. The onion rings portion was HUGE for an appetizer! I ate most of them in lieu of the potato chips and my mom had a few as well. Very crispy and great tasting. My wife's taco salad had a very nice presentation but an average taste; made up by a large portion size. My mom is elderly and has a reduced size stomach, so it's normal for her to order something like a side of Mac and Cheese or in this case, Macaroni Salad. Again, generous portion but fairly bland to my taste. I would add a little seasoning salt or celery salt. Remember, this is a bar and that's the primary atmosphere. Although the riverside view is killer. Honestly, everything else could be pure crap and this place would still get 3-stars for its location and view. Considering that we'd normally do something like Bill Grays or Schallers on a lake trip like this, Silk O'Loughlins is a worthy alternative and worthy the drive over the River to Summerville. Slainte!

I am reviewing the newly reopened deck at Silk O'Loughlin's bar and restaurant. They poured a concrete deck along the river and it is awesome! It replaced the wood deck. They have hung some outdoor string lighting which brightens up the place a little bit. The food is pretty much the same as before - great wings and burgers etc. I had the O's burger today with hot sauce - fantastic! And I washed it down with an Everyman IPA from Stoneyard Brewing. A good choice. The bar was filled with regulars who were just waiting for them to re-open for the summer. Come on down and check out the newly reopened Olies!

Despite that I keep thinking about what I want to try next time I go. The atmosphere, scale and feel of the dining room is fantastic. It sort of feels like a Rochester version of Cheers. I love that they had all the doors open and the beautiful summer evening climate was enjoyable whether you sat inside or outside. This meant dealing with a few gnats or flies at our indoor table. I started with a Caesar side salad which was very good. The entrees we had were Salmon and Chicken Riggies. The Chicken RIggies were great. Not spicy at all but made-to-order so it could be made spicy. The pasta was perfectly tender but firm, the diced chicken was flavorful and easy to eat. It was THE most successful Chicken Riggie dish I've tried to date anywhere and I took the leftovers home to enjoy for lunch the next day, a rarity for me. The salmon was not a hit. It seemed pretty fishy especially in the areas that were thinner and had become chewier from the grill drying it out. What they call roasted corn is really 'chili powder roasted corn'. The chili powder flavor was quite pronounced and not very well integrated into the dish. It tasted like very ordinary corn with very ordinary chili powder sprinkled on it. I'm sure that isn't how the dish is made but that's what it tasted like. The Cheesy Eddie's carrot cake was absolutely perfect and tasted like it was just made. It's hard to defend the pricing. Our 2 entrees, 1 side salad, 1 soft drink and 2 small glasses of wine and 1 piece of carrot cake ended up being 145 dollars after tax and tip. If the wine pour had been a nice 9 ounce pour I would have had a single glass but I had 2 because they were small. Even with 1 wine this was going to be WELL over 100 dollars for 2 people even before tip. In any head-to-head comparison with something like The Distillery or Genesee Brew House, this pricing is probably out of line. If we go back, it will be with great appreciation for the setting and modest expectations for the food.

I do not consider it to be the world's greatest, but it was pretty solid for sure. I also love that when you order it with all the fixins, that includes ketchup, mustard, relish, onions, hot sauce, lettuce, tomato and pickles. I like fixins. This location of Bill Gray's happens to be right by Ontario Beach Park, and it's serving up all the things I want for a lunch during a beach day: the aforementioned burgers, chicken tendies, hot dogs (red and white hots), and all the fried things (curly fries, onion rings, regular fries, etc.). Also beer. They have beer in the tap room, as they should. Get all the unhealthy things, and eat at the tables outside in the breeze, or inside in the air conditioning. You can't really go wrong. All I will say, is that it was worth it. The place and the menu are pretty cool/chill. Plenty of seating with firepit style table tops, extremely dog friendly, self serve water, and food/drink selections were great too. The waitress was very sweet, but was obviously overworked and busy too. She apologized and gave us free drink tokens and comped us a side order of garlic fries after they ran out of side salads. None of that was her fault, but it shows how the employees and establishment care about their valued costumers. We had the veggie focaccia, garlic fries, and buffalo parm wings (they were huge). No complaints on the quality of food or the portion size since we had more than enough to take stuff home. We will definitely come back. I live only a few minutes away by foot! I also was a bit late in getting a reservation so I was lucky to get one there. Our reservation was at seven and we were seated within five minutes after chatting a bit with the bartender who is really friendly. We had a booth to ourselves in the main dining area. There's also a smaller side room with two person booths. They had a great selection of beer so I ordered a hazy IPA as usual. It took a while for us to figure out what to order because this menu is huge! I shared some pictures of the menu and the special sheet. We ordered the Italian calamari as an appetizer. It was very good, with banana peppers, and olives, and an Italian dressing on it. Also, the bread they gave you was really great! They have a woodfired pizza oven, which is massive by the way. You can see it from the main dining room. My wife ordered a medium veggie pizza. It was very tasty, I tried a few bites myself. Not as crispy on the bottom as I'd like, but with a veggie pizza you're fighting a losing battle I know. All those veggies have a lot of water in them so making a crisp crust is tough. I ordered the Chicken Riggies - which I will be honest. I think it's the first time I've ever ordered it! It's rigatoni with breaded chicken pieces and lots of green, red and spicy peppers. They said they could make it as spicy hot as you wanted. I ordered it medium and it was medium, which is fine. I've tried it at some restaurants in the Utica area and it comes out so fiery hot that I can't even hardly eat it. You can always add heat you can't take it away! It was really good though. We both took half our meal home so we had dinner the next night too. I will say that the prices at Charlotte Tavern are very reasonable and the food selection is awesome. We will definitely have to come back! The atmosphere of the place is really cool too. It's been around since 1873 and they have old pictures of Charlotte landmarks adorning the walls. Our server was great too - I forgot her name but she was the owner's daughter and she did a great job. She apologized a few times that the food was taking a little while, but we realized on Valentine's Day places are busy. I guess they had a lot of takeout orders so people must know the food's great and if they can't get a reservation, they just order it to go. Which is not a bad idea by the way. We will definitely make this restaurant one that we go to regularly.

The full menu is available Wednesday - Saturday, bar menu (limited choices) only on Tuesday, and closed Sunday and Monday. Hoping they bring back local made desserts soon because COVID messed that up. Tuesday night still has live Irish music every week. They have a Touch Tunes machine for music otherwise. Tonight we came in and were pleasantly surprised with their St Patty's day week-long special of Corned Beef sandwiches (platters also available). This sandwich was the best corned beef sandwich I've EVER had (and I've had a few over the years lol). They offer choice of Sauerkraut, Cole slaw or house made cabbage (cooked in the corned beef juices) on marble rye with 1000 island on the side. We came in a couple months ago and the special was a prime rib Beef on Weck - my all-time favorite sandwich- and this sandwich is now my "gold standard" for beef on weck! So, fast forward to Thursday night and my wife wanted a buffalo chicken wrap and this place popped into my head because they had advertised as a wing place. I wanted to check out the website but oops they don't have one. That was red flag 1. They do have a FB page that is almost empty except for bands promoting themselves and people complaining. But.... Adventure! And come on I already bought the gift certificate! So we drove down to the lake on a chilly Thursday night, found it right away and it was like a ghost town so easy parking. When we walked in we noticed the one front window that had been broken by ....? Had another smaller window duct taped over it. Wtf? RF#2! There was 1 customer, a bar tender on her phone and the cook on his phone. We sat at the bar and a bar is definitely what it is. This is a dive bar that has a kitchen. We ordered Cajun parmesan wings, a buffalo chicken wrap and a steak garbage plate. Wings were dry and over cooked with little flavor. Do NOT go for the wings. My wife said her wrap was generic but fine. My plate was above ok and below good. Like most what keeps it from greatness is a weak Mac salad game. It's too thin, almost watery and lacks flavor. Half way through eating some truly obnoxiouse customers came in, you could tell they were regulars and we're just trashy. The bar tender started to brag about being banned from The Mirage, a low end strip club, as we paid up and left. If your going for a show then maybe but I can't really imagine ever suggesting anyone go here for any reason.
