This Heinen's is a lot smaller than it appears. The produce section doesn't have the amount and variety that I see at other grocery stores. This location seems like a specialty grocer, has the feel of a Fresh Market or Whole Foods. I was shopping for cheeses and other items for a charcuterie board, and while I did find some fun items like quince paste and round Italian crackers (taralli), I didn't find all that much. It was funny to see Dolly Parton pies in a freezer case and that Incontinence supplies are on the signage ( not funny to some I guess). I might stop in if I need a few things but if I need the full service grocery experience I will probably go to my other standbys. read more

Recently visited this Heinens since I was in the area about to make my way over to the Detroit area and wanted to grab some energy drinks that I know are exclusively sold at Heinens and a few health bars. Overall prices here were fair and the selection was great. Great hot soups to grab and go too. Staff here was friendly and helpful during my visit. There's no self check out lines but the lines did move pretty quickly. Incredibly fresh grocery Options! Overall, I did enjoy my visit here just like I enjoy visiting the Cleveland, Ohio area locations. read more

One of my favorite grocery stores! The produce here is always fresh and often locally sourced as well. I love that some of the produce is marked with signage which indicates the midwest farm it came from! The staff always goes out of their way to help. I've only had outstandingly positive interactions with a variety of staff members. There is also a great wine selection, something for everyone there. read more

I went to Heinen's this evening and picked up a beautiful plant, along with a quick dinner from the deli department. I decided on flank steak accompanied by Roasted root vegetables. I can honestly say this meal was so fantastic. The flank steak was accompanied by teriyaki sauce and the woman working in the deli was so knowledgeable and helped with every single item that I chose. I mentioned to her that I needed several meals since I had been feeling dizzy for awhile and just didn't have the energy to cook anything. I walked away with Chicken Piccata, the Flank steak, roasted root vegetables, stuffed cabbage, and fettuccine with tomatoes and bacon. I had the flank steak and vegetables tonight and feel so much better. I am planning on having the stuffed cabbage for lunch tomorrow and will have the Fettuccine with tomatoes and bacon on Monday night. I order Home Chef so honestly I don't go grocery shopping too often. Plus I live in WI. I get so excited to visit my Mom and go to Heinen's since it is an exceptional grocery store. I used to frequent Sunset Foods when I lived in Lake Forest. Now that my Mom has moved I discovered Heinen's. The service, the food, and my experience was fantastic. The only complaint I have is that I wish they were open past 7 p.m. on a Sunday. I literally had to run in and gather my items and then run out. read more

Beware of pricing switching. On two different shopping trips prices were incorrect. On May 10 was told " oh somebody forgot to take down last week's price". So instead of 4/$5.00 was now 3/$5.00 on Avocado. Many retailers would want the customers to be happy but not all. The customer is not at fault and the staff is not doing the job. This store was recommended to me by locals... they warned me right away that it's not a discount supermarket... so I at least had proper expectations... While some items that were "standard" from other stores appeared a bit high in price... I then saw the prepared food section... OMG!!! Beautifully cooked beef tenderloin. Giant perfectly cooked garlic shrimp... and the list goes on... The fresh salad section was diverse and appealing... My usual pet peeve: the fish station... but no: the fish was bright, not skinned over, nice selection.... I literally wanted to take the giant half of halibut home. Then I went to the meat station: here were bright red, gorgeous steaks... they were just calling my name... So two steaks, some mushrooms, onion, sour cream, then gnocchi out of the cooler section... a beautiful bottle of wine from the amazing wine selection...and a fresh beautiful plant... Absolutely beautiful Super market that is well organized and super clean. When you first walk in you see the bright colors of all the produce that are perfectly stocked and fresh. The aisles are well labeled so it makes it easy to find what your looking for. The back of the Super market is where the deli, bakery, and butcher are. The Meats look high quality and amazingly delicious. The Deli makes daily sandwiches and they smell so good it makes your mouth water. Another cool feature is that they have Kombucha on tap for those that are into health and it seems like this store really caters to those healthy eaters. They also have beer on tap and you can purchase growlers for those that are beer lovers which I think is super cool. Overall really nice super market with great staff that are friendly and helpful. read more

Great grocery store with a good selection of items. Best is the beer and wine department. The selection is, IMHO, the best curated in lake county. One can purchase single beers as well as growlers of draft beer. And Kaleb at the counter is polite, friendly knowledgeable about the offerings; which always makes the shopping experience pleasant. Love Heinen's! This has become my new local grocery shop ever since I moved to Lake Bluff. They really have everything you need. Some may say it's way more expensive to shop here but you just have to know how to shop the deals and buy what you can eat for that week or two. Really, I don't end up spending any more here than I would at the Jewel or other grocery store. Throughout the store, they have tons of unique options, carrying everything from your basic brands like Kellogg's to more speciality organic and local labels. Heinen's carries a decent amount of vegan options as well. They always have a great produce section with wide variety of fruits and vegetables, organic and nonorganic. Always stocked up on spinach and greens, they've got a specialty milks like Almond and coconut milks. Heinen's has a mighty cheese section, a great deli and wonderful beer and wine selection. You can even sip while you shop. Haven't tried this yet here, but I've done it at a different grocery store and it was awesome. Lots of flowers to pick from in the front of the store and Heinen's always has fun seasonal treats on your way in. Right now they have some glazed pumpkin donuts calling my name. I did cave and picked up some pumpkin spice cinnamon raisin toast yesterday however. read more

I was very excited when this grocery store opened because it is near my house and I love eating organic food. My excitement has been turned into disappointment in an year because of frequent bad experiences. I got bad eggs one time Hienen's brand. I had hard boiled two eggs. One of the eggs when I peeled, I saw there was weird brown liquid gushing out from inside of the egg at one part. I told their customer care, they replaced the eggs. I usually take salad to lunch with me with an avocado. I had frequent bad avocados experience.Then I have also had bad salad experience. One time the salad was so dirty inside even though it said 'Triple washed'. Other time the leaves were so dry. Also, the salad is never fresh. The leaves start turning mushy after a day or two. I was picking bad leaves out of my salad today. Bad avocado and salad experiences have left me hungry at lunch many times now. I feel the same brand salad at walmart is more fresh. I think hienen's does not have a good stock control that they are always trying to sell their older stuff. This week I also brought grapes, those were bad in two days. I have decided to change my store and use hienens only for emergency needs. read more

This is my sanctuary when visiting family in Lake Forest. Sort of a food heaven where you can walk around with booze in hand while tasting delightful morsels of cheeses and pastries or whatever else you ask the nice workers to let you taste. One time I asked how the bbq ribs were and the guy gave me a spare rib to enjoy as I "shopped." My partner joke that if we lived nearby, this place would be a date night destination. But for real, this is a foodie's dream, a beer snob's heaven, and a wine drinker's second home. Nice and smaller Heinens. Clean and friendly. Ok if convenient or in a hurry, otherwise drive a few miles south on 43 Waukegan to the Heinens at Bannockburn which has better bakery, meat, produce, deli, and everything else. Produce is pristine when fully stocked and prouldy priced. Sometimes run out for some of the green stuff (kale and spinich). Bakery is very small with limited selection and hard to get good sliced bread. Meat counter is well stocked but prepackaged is limited. Cheese and dairy is good. Parking lot is clean and easy to access but tight parking spots. read more

You just lost an avid produce costumer - I've been a customer due to convenience (you're a two minute drive for me) and I've thought your produce was hit or miss since the get - go but based on today I'm done buying produce from you. All of the broccoli heads are soft, lemons are squishy, and when I merely picked up an eggplant to see if it was safe to buy my thumb went through it. I took it to the manager who said "this is not okay" and then I saw him go up to a guy (I'm guessing the produce manager) shrug and throw the eggplant in a box. I'll come back if I ever need milk or eggs in a hurry but your produce is absolutely pathetic 99% of the time... I will now drive 15 minutes down the road to Jewel-Osco or Sunset for now on. read more

After Dominick's closed we were without a grocery store nearby, so I was delighted when Heinen's took over the place. I really wish I could give them 5 stars. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the store is clean and pleasant with lots of nice touches (even a wine bar). The food is fine quality too. My main beef is that they close so early - 8:30PM! That would be tolerable if not very customer friendly; but what's worse is that as early as 7 they seem to be "closing up shop," with the Poke (Hawaiian) bar closing down, a lot of the bakery items disappearing, and so on. Also, the health/beauty section is small and a lot of standard items just aren't to be had. I guess this is because they want to be an old fashioned grocery store, not a clone of Jewel/Osco. Still, all in all it's a good place, and I recommend it. read more

I recently ordered a half sheet birthday cake for my wife's 50th birthday party, and it was truly amazing. A simple white cake with buttercream frosting, didn't need anything more. I like this groceries store especially the pre-made foods that you can heat at home! But this place is too expensive for me to do all of my grocery shopping. Either they are a dishonest company or their Sales system is just failing. I've ran into multiple situations where the label on the shelve said a product was on sale, but when I checked out I was charged with full price. Today I had to take a picture of the price label to prove to the cashier. Unbelievable! Be sure to check the price next time when you shop there. read more
