I only just discovered this TJ location and I think it's the best. They have their own dedicated parking lot and the store isn't jammed with people. I really enjoyed the Everything But the Bagel little crackers -- I enjoyed them so much I had to go back and get more -- and was rewarded with a Dukedom. Such nice people. One of the staff members was leaving for the evening and as she said goodbye, a whole lot of people said goodbye back to her. Friendly! read more

So, I've been going to this Trader Joe's for about 12 years. I've watched managers and employees come and go. I'm a big fan of Trader Joe's because of their affordable prices, community service, natural foods, healthy comfort foods, and seasonal varieties. The counter table is great. The coffee samples were wonderful but needed when COVID was active. The ambience of the store is typically pleasant. The employees are like a box of chocolates. "You never know what you will get". Yet, for the most part, I have encountered some nice employees who are kind, positive, respectful, and share some of their experiences with the items for sale. There are usually employees found around the store who can help find items or look up to see if something is out of stock. This Trader Joe's is kid friendly, offering lollipops,stickers, and mini carts to keep the kids busy. read more

TJ is definitely one of my favorite grocery stores that I've loved for a while. It has a wide array of delicious items at unbeatable prices. It's an experience that everyone needs to have as most products are under the TJ brand. They also rotate some items seasonally. A few of my personal favorites include (but are not limited to): -Unexpected cheddar cheese -Olive oil popcorn -Truffle-flavored olive oil -Atlantic smoked salmon -Everything but the bagel seasoning -Tangerine juice -Honey greek yogurt -Dark chocolate peanut butter cups -Cookie butter I've been to multiple locations but this one by far is my favorite. I love my local Trader Joe's!! Although smaller than some of the other TJ's in the area, the produce is always fresh and reasonably priced. They've definitely been stepping up their vegan game over the last few years as well! The last time I was here, I was searching for a handful of vegan wines for my annual Friendsgiving, and Carly and Manager Scott went above and beyond helping me look into different brands by Googling and/or contacting the distributors directly if there wasn't any info on their wine lists. I don't always agree with their prices but that's true with me and other places too. It's a small shop but overall, you can find a good variety of items from produce, dairy, juices to baked goods, cereal, nuts, frozen foods, beer and wine. I have had good experiences here in all my visits. I like to browse through their isles for items that aren't even on my grocery list. I like their beer, cereal and frozen foods sections the most. They limit the number of customers in at any one time, they have staff at the front entrance guarding it, if there's too many inside, then you just have to wait outside until they are ready for you to enter! What a GREAT store! I love Trader Joe's. Sadly there isn't one in my community. Whenever I travel for work (which is often) I look for a Trader Joe's. This store has the best service and staff of any I have been in. Yvonne was an absolute GEM. She made sure I had a Chicago bag and gifted me some flowers for my birthday. It's been years since I've been in a grocery store where the staff actually greet and talk to customers. She seemed genuinely happy to be at work. I am a firm believer that happy employees make for successful businesses. Trader Joe's has the best "fall flavors" I look forward to their season products but especially fall. I typically go to my local Trader Joes in Libertyville, IL.. I have frequented this location since it opened, however recently my experience has been less than ideal and I just wanted to make light of it. It seems to be a pattern sadly where a lot of items in the frozen food aisle here have either small holes or tears in them. (and not the kind intentionally placed there from the manufacturer). I normally dont inspect my frozen foods before buying like I would for yogurt or produce. So unfortunately I stumble on the holes/tearing once Ive gotten the product home and am ready to make it, intentionally looking at the bag for prep/cooking instructions. I inventoried my freezer and unfortunately have about 7 or 8 items that arent sealed properly, either have small holes in, or tears and I dont necessarily feel comfortable consuming. I doubt you can exchange frozen foods, so I am sadly having to just eat the money and toss them away. I dont know why this seems to be such a consistent problem at this location? Are the employees being too rough when unpacking the boxes? Perhaps the tears are from the box cutters? I dont know. One other thing I noticed, and I will attach the picture I took, is the shelf stable tart cherry juice, has almost a fluorescent yellow ring of film floating on top of the cherry juice. I dont think this is normal, as it wasnt affecting all of the bottles. However, the ones it was floating in look particularly unappetizing, and perhaps blooming some sort of food bacteria. I hope you can have someone look into this issue. The best buy date isnt until June 2019. Not so good!! read more

I love me some Trader Joe's. This location is great! Everyone is always willing to go the extra mile and make sure you are fully satisfied with your purchase. I was creating a cheese board, and asked for one employees opinion on various cheeses to pair. After giving me his feedback, he insisted I try the cheeses for myself before purchasing. I ended up purchasing 2 out of the 3 he suggested. Once I was checking out, the cashier had offered to have someone load my groceries into my car since I was with my son. My favorite Trader Joe's to shop at in the area. I'm not sure if this is the newest, but I'm sure this is one of the largest locations in this area of the suburbs. The store is always well stocked and clean, with tons of organic and natural selections at reasonable prices. One reason I like this location in particular is the great selection of value priced gift items. I love how Trader Joes has many great looking items that work great as gifts for under $10. These have different flavors and presentations than what you'll find for similar items in a chain store -- but also taste great as well. This location also has friendly service, quick checkout, and a parking lot layout that avoids lots of cross traffic and allows you to park relatively close to the store. Overall, if you want to eat well on a budget and be pleasantly surprised by a regular influx of new items -- shopping at this Trader Joe's is for you. read more

As always, (even before supply issues nationally) they are often out of what I'm looking for or it's been discontinued. You have to watch the dates very carefully. A BIG improvement would be getting rid of kiddie carts! Parents often aren't paying attention and the kids are running up & down the isles. Just saw an elderly lady get hit in the back of her legs and pushed into the meat display. Those carts are a huge liability and dangerous for elderly people. Not once did any employee step in, just stood around watching the 2 kids running and yelling. Used to be a pleasant shopping experience, not so much now. read more

I'm no stranger to Trader Joe's. My father, a lover of the infamous "Two Buck Chuck", introduced me to the chain several years ago. A girlfriend of mine also raved about TJ's and so, I became a TJ convert, making frequent trips to the Northbrook store before the one in Libertyville opened last year. However, a switch to predominantly organic & all natural eating led me to another grocer (I won't drop any names, but I'm sure you can guess who it is!). But, I've made my return to Trader Joe's, having discovered that prices for certain organic items are cheaper than my go-to grocer. For example, a 32oz tube of yogurt, which we use for smoothies costs $2.99 (vanilla, low-fat), which is cheaper than the competitors who are in the $3.50-$5.00 range. We've been making smoothies regularly this summer, so I see no sense in purposely paying more when I can buy the TJ's brand, which tastes just as good. Also, the organic fruit is slightly cheaper than our other go-to grocer. For our lunches, we eat ground turkey with green beans and potatoes. We've discovered that a 16oz tub of ground turkey costs $2.99 as opposed to $5.99-$7.99 at our go-to grocer. Needless to say, we've been buying it from TJ's. With regard to their other food items, I enjoy their frozen food selection. Favorites include the mushroom and black truffle flatbread, pre-cooked turkey meatballs and mushroom ravioli. Also, you cannot go wrong with their sweets, which are located above the frozen food items. Favorites include dark chocolate covered almonds and dark chocolate toffee. I'm a big fan of their chips & popcorn selection as well. You must try the white cheddar and bacon popcorn. It's a steal at $1.99, though, if you're like me, you can devour the bag in two sittings. In the winter, make sure to try their Peppermint Joe-Joe's. Joe-Joe's are TJ's version of the Oreo, but ten times better. It has pieces of peppermint in the cream filing. The store clerks that I've interacted with have all been friendly and professional. The store does seem a bit smaller than other locations I've visited, but is easy to navigate. The only downside would be the fruit section, which in terms of both organic and conventional is nowhere near as good as other grocers. Despite that, I'm definitely back on the TJ's boat and can see myself stopping in weekly to purchase my ground turkey and other items. read more

It's been open for three days, and I'm the first to review? Everyone else must be gorging on their organic produce and new treats. Their loss... Trader Joe's is new to Libertyville, but obviously not to its residents -- many of whom likely used to go to the Northbrook or Lake Zurich stores to get their fix. This location seems a bit bigger than most. Navigating down aisles didn't feel like grinding on someone, which is a refreshing change. I don't understand why Trader Joe's insists on placing their aisles askew, but I'm sure they have a reason. It leads to confusion, as there's no clear accepted culture of how to navigate the system. People are stopped in aisles chatting or looking around; head on collisions of carts abound. But the nuts and bolts -- they have great, reasonably priced produce (organic or otherwise). The fresh flower selection is unbeatable in variety and pricing. The food is healthy, good stuff that you want to put in your body. No weird, unpronounceable ingredients or preservatives in this place. Even the junk food is the real deal with actual sugar, chocolate, etc. Get your staples here, but also branch out and try some of the fun things you won't find other places. My biggest gripe about Trader Joe's -- and this isn't specific to this location (or even just to TJ's) -- is that they have little grocery carts for little kids. In theory, this is a great idea to let kids learn the process of grocery shopping and how to pick out their favorite foods. In practice, it becomes a shitshow of toddlers running amok into the backs of people's legs or unattended toddlers nearly being squashed by grown-ups cruising toward the Two (Three) Buck Chuck. Until parents can responsibly watch their children in the store, I vote the little carts out of the store. They can be phased in later - make Libertyville earn them. read more

Love this place! Wonderful efficient staff. Very knowledgable and they make great recommendations on their food products. Great value for your money interesting selection of ethnic foods. When I was a temporary vegan they offer an extensive sheet of there items that meet your dietary needs. Such as gluten free, vegan free etc.etc. if you like salami the one that comes in a pair with a white skin that's edible, bring it to room temperature like eating butter. read more

This is my go to trader joes and I love it. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Great selection of organic products, and very competitive prices to Mariano's across the street. Love their sprout bread selection. Great frozen products such as veggie medley, mandarin chicken, specialty foods and etc. If you are dairy sensitive like me you'll be happy with their dairy substitute products such as coconut milk ice cream (the chocolate one is to die for), coconut and soy milk yogurt, and all at very reasonable prices. They have an awesome organic brown quick cook basmati rice that I love, it's a must try. Large wine and beer selection, most at very cheap prices. Oooh and the goat milk brie for $4 is incredibly delicious, it makes for a good "cheat day" treat. So many yummy dessert options, from cookies to chocolate covered almonds, to waffers and ginger snaps. Aaaah so many goodies! Come here, get good clean products, or something extremely yummy, (yes not all products are "clean" this isn't whole foods but be a smart consumer and read labels), great prices, you will not be disappointed! Love Trader Joe's in general, and this location is really good. They make the effort to keep the safe clean and hygienic. They decontaminated all shopping carts, unlike other stores in the area. Pre-covid, they always had good samples. I love their banana bread and their spicy dried mango slices. The hummus combos are always fresh, and so is their pesto. Pricing is always consistent - no clipping coupons etc. read more

Updating this to a 4 star just because I haven't really seen the rude employees since that issue and most of them have been nice. The returns I did went well and were stress free. The cashiers have been very nice to us, we especially like this one guy who is mid 20s and brown/blonde hair. He cares about his job and you can tell. My issue I still have with this location is the produce isn't always fresh and neither is the dairy it seems. TWICE I have bought dairy products here (heavy cream and half and half) and had to return them because they were spoiled before I ever opened them. If you open heavy cream and it smells like old raw hamburger meat... that's not okay. At this point I just buy my dairy else where. Oh and the last time I bought shredded cheese (the Italian blend) it was liquid-y like it had been held at the wrong temp for too long. They also still have an issue with keeping price tags on all their products. Overall I'm happy it has improved over time and shopping here isn't that terrible now. read more

I totally love this location. I love that they play 80's music that I can actually hear. It probably keeps me in the store longer than necessary. They obviously have the same items as other locations which I really enjoy a lot of. The difference to me at this specific location are the people. The management team has really done a great job selecting a staff that is ALWAYS upbeat, friendly, offers to help, opens additional lanes for you etc. They chat in an always friendly way, and seem truly happy to be there. Gluten-Free review -- Since TJ's came to Chicago's North Shore area, it's always been the first go-to of my weekly grocery shopping for price, gluten-free, good choice of organics, and fresh produce. Workers are always friendly, English-speaking, and helpful. If you haven't shopped at the store before, they will get you a list of all their gluten-free-related* products. If you can't find something, the shelf-stockers will stop what they're doing to direct you to it or look it up in the system. If they're out of an item, they'll order it for you and hold it. If you shop here (or any other of their stores) regularly, they're very likely to remember your name. Though the Libertyville store has one of the larger TJ layouts in the area, it still is relatively small, compared to conventional supermarket size. For this reason, many products are only carried seasonally, whether or not a season is normally associated with a product. For example, last November I bought a few cartons of their new organic turkey bone broth. I bought some more in early December. When I came back for more in January, they told me that it was a Thanksgiving-related seasonal product. This can be frustrating, especially when you go there expecting to pick up a specific thing. Another issue related to store size is that there is little to no diversity of brands and almost all product is under one of the TJ labels -- though this is not necessarily a bad thing (see yogurt mention below). One of the exceptions to this is in their wine, beer and liquor department. The good thing related to store size is that I can make my trips here shorter than at conventional grocery stores. The not-so-good thing is that I usually have to also stop, at least, at one other store to complete my shopping list -- usually for brand-name items. However, they do have many things -- like internationally influenced or culinarily/health progressive foods/products -- that are hard to find elsewhere. Back to GF... *Some of their products may be labeled, "Made on equipment shared with products that include gluten ingredients, " "Made in a facility that also processes gluten," or "No gluten (ingredients) added." I'm not exactly sure what the last one means, as this is the only place I've seen that used. I suppose it's a disclaimer of intention, as in, "We didn't intend to use gluten-contaminated ingredients, but at least we didn't knowingly add any straight gluten to this recipe." Is it that hard to test to officially declare it's GF? I'll leave it to you to determine how the worst-case scenarios of the other two statements might affect you. Note: There are no inspectors to determine how thoroughly shared machines are cleaned out between product runs, and HVAC equipment can spread flour around. I suppose the nature of TJ's slapping their house label on third-party-made exclusive products is at the root of such a weird disclaimer. They mustn't be able to have their own inspector around for the product's ingredient acquisition, handling, and manufacturing process. Sometimes their third-party suppliers are the makers of the actual name-brand products, that you think they're trying to imitate, operating incognito -- for reason I can only guess has something to do with pricing for competing business customers. This came to light for me when a favorite peach organic non-dairy GF yogurt that TJ's and Whole Soy & Co both sold was not available at the same time, when an independent manufacturer for Whole Soy reneged on their contract. Whole Soy decided to build their own facility and started production later that year. TJ's miraculously started stocking it again at the same time until Whole Soy went out of business (bankruptcy) a few months later. This was a few years ago and the product hasn't yet made a return to any TJ's. So if you have a belief that that their house labeled items might be inferior to name-brand items, you might be pleasantly surprised. All in all a positive experience. Just be cautious of the nature of GF labeled items, if you may be effected. read more

I don't care for Trader Joe's. Sue me, I don't care. I hate shopping but I dont mind going to costco or Mariannos. Maybe because I have created strategies and surviving skills for those places. Still I do mind going to trader joes though. The size of the place is practically the same square footage of my living room. Not that it is a bad thing but everytime I walk in, it reminds me of a bit more pretentious and classier version of Aldis. It's not bad price wise but it's not cheap either. The amount of foods is beyond underwhelming. I don't buy potato pancakes but if I did I would like to have more than one option. However, I really do like their hot teas so that's the only reason I go there. I also do appreciate that they are a very eco friendly place. read more

Chatting with cashier, mentioned that it was interesting to see the difference between products available at the Libertyville store and the Portland OR locations. I come to trader joes to buy those special items that are cheaper than you can find at grocery stores or ethnic places. Produce here is not particularly cheap. Overall, trader joe's is for the uppity and hippies, i would not rely on this place for SERIOUS grocery needs. Better trader joes around, don't need to compromise. read more

I have been a Trader Joe's girl long before they came to Libertyville because I lived in Chicago. I find myself stopping by here on my way home every friday for the TJ's triple threat: Wine, Cheese, and chocolate. Amongst other great items. At TJ's not everything is organic, but it is much higher quality and tastes a whole lot better then the food from Jewel. Here are a few of my favorite items from there. Cheese: Brie light, apple cinnamon or garlic and herbs goat cheese, caramelized onion cheddar, tuscano, the shredded salad blend, pesto gouda, the brie medallions.. just to name a few... you for sure can't go wrong with these items. The antipasto meat platter goes well with any cheese... and wine. Wine: LaFineca Malbec ($4.99, hands down my fave Malbec), Earth Tone Savignon Blanc ($4.99), any of the Secca sparkling wines, and there are a few Reislings that are really good. I've also had the Greek white table wine as well as several sangria mixes from there. Honestly I stopped buying wine anywhere else since this came into the hoods. Food: Well, I could spend hours listing off things I like..because there are so many. But you really should try the cookie butter and some specalooo's cookies... The frozen chicken quassadilas are so good. The indian food is actually pretty awesome... with some garlic Naan bread of course! I love the parmesan chicken skewers, you dip those in marinarra and its a perfect snack. I also am a fan of their fancy frozen pizzas. And did I mention they really go all out for their seasonal foods. Like in the fall everything you can ever imagine is pumpkin! LOVE! On top of that, pick up a nice flower arrangement. My only gripes is they never have the mild or medium fresh salsa or bruschetta like they do in the city ones! Come on L-Ville... we need the SALSA! read more

Awesome to have a trader joe's in the north suburbs. I would typically have to go out of my way to Northbrook if I wanted to stock up on some TJ items. So imagine my surprise when I was driving home from work and scoped out this place. The place is typical - small and well-stocked with their typical nuts, prepared foods, dairy, etc. I was surprised to see the prepared citrus chicken salad that I could only find in California! They didn't carry this at the Northbrook location. More convenient for me, and so glad to have this in the area. The store isn't crowded at all after work. Bonus! read more
