Buying a 100 dollar pair of somewhat gothic style pants, the original owner guy I purchased from was kind of cool. we chatted things up, he kind of gave me some pointers for sf fashion spots, talked to me about some of the other items around the shop (including a 1000 dollar concealable leather pouch). I usually like to give things time... evaluate places before sticking with them... so opting to wait on anything else... I make a trip to japan (where I purchased another gothic style pants from the yellow house... which were even more disappointing that Ceiba. Details are in the review I made for them). Also, mind you, both pants are elastic and the material is a little thick, they were both very comfortable. after coming back, I had to get both pants repaired. the ceiba pants I've had to have repaired twice (but it still has more damage on it that I haven't gotten repaired. the pockets are falling apart for one) now while the japanese yellow house pants I've had to have repaired 3 times now. It's rare that I need to have my clothes repaired... mostly its seams coming undone and I can usually fix those myself.... usually... but these were more that the fabric was giving out. the seams were strong but the pants were fraying or giving out around the seams. I cant just sew that back in. I've gone to Ceiba twice to try to talk to them about the material, the pants, repairs... and just to find solutions. the first time for them to give me advice on to handle it myself... and the second time, after SEVERAL times having to pay to get them fixed, to see if maybe the item was just bad or something and finding more vendor and patron solutions. both times it was a woman this time and both times she could not help. I do not recommend people come here for clothes, its a nice name place to show off a bit and pretend to be more socioeconomically established but little more than that.

I chose Tim & SFBAY-RE from a list of others because he's a licensed certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser in the state of CA and has over 15 years of appraisal experience throughout the Bay Area, with a particular focus in San Francisco. He provided the appraisal in plenty of time to support the Sept '24 submission deadline. Two days before I was set to appear before the Appeals Board in May '25 the SF Assessor's Office contacted me and agreed with the assessed market value that Tim established in his appraisal. Based on the current FMV that Tim provided I will be receiving a substantial credit for tax year '24 and the new property tax will result in a considerable savings going forward. Tim was easy to work with and very responsive to my questions throughout the entire process. I was particularly thankful for the guidance he provided in preparing for the Appeals Board meeting. The cost for the appraisal was both competitive and fair and well worth it. I highly recommend Tim & SFBAY-RE if you are in need of an appraisal for a property tax appeal.

Heirloom Engravers is the place to go for high quality workmanship in engraving. I'm a watchmaker, and at one point, I was having problems with colleagues "borrowing" my tools and not returning them. So I brought my tools to Wade in groups, and he artfully added my initials to every single tool. Needless to say, my tools stopped disappearing, and I could not be happier. I was downtown and needed to get a photo frame engraved for an event that was 5 days away. I used…read morethe Yelp iPhone app (disclaimer: I work at Yelp) to search for "engravers" nearby and EGO was at the top of the list. I was told they could rush the engraving job for a $20 same day rush fee but I didn't need to make use of that service. The selection of styles for the text was wide and in the end I was very happy with the engraving job that was done. The turn around time was about 2 days. I was also impressed with the wide selection of gifts that you can purchase at EGO. Most notably, they have liquor flasks, lighters and trophies and I imagine they'd engrave any of them. Perhaps I'll go here for a trophy if I ever arrange a hot sauce eating competition.

There's a variety of designs which looked good. Some of them were dedicated to Oakland's Mayor and to Members of Congress. If it's good enough for Congresswoman Barbara Lee it's good enough for me. I went to personalize a birthday gift for a friend. I bought him a rare bottle of whiskey that came in a wood box and wanted it engraved. The design and engraving happened pretty quick and it cost $25, I don't know if that's high or low since I've never gotten anything engraved before but it turned out well. Adding the engraving makes the gift a lot more meaningful. I think I'd do that again for really good friends and loved ones.
