Esthetician's are unlicensed students who aren't trained to provide any of the services offered here. Helena prefers to use unlicensed students so she can take advantage of cheap labor. There are dead cockroaches hidden in all of the corners. Helena doesn't refer to TDLR guidelines when it comes to sanitation. Instead of using barbicide to clean her service rooms, she uses bathroom cleaning supplies. Helena also reuses lancets and tweezers without proper sanitation. She has never once cleaned her hot towel warmers (they all have a disgusting odor coming out of them). She claims to practice "sustainability" when in reality she's cutting costs by reusing one-time-use items. She makes her own wax which often times causes your skin to break out in a rash. Wouldn't suggest coming here and paying for expensive services that the esthetician's aren't even licensed to do. read more

Wonderful salon. It is true luxury and relaxation. The spa is situated off the road in a gated entrance. I was greeted by a very sweet receptionist who checked me in and showed me to the changing room where I was able to put on my robe and slippers as well as secure my items in a locked cabinet. I was then greeted by the owner Helena, she is sweet, knowledgeable and a perfectionist. No her is safe around her., she gets it all. She is thorough and a true crafts woman of her trade. The whole experience was a true education and I learned quite a bit about the whole waxing process. She keeps you distracted with pleasant conversation and is very quick and does her best to minimize any discomfort. I really like the hard wax she uses and I always turn out very smooth. I came here after researching "holistic" Day spas and reading glowing reviews. My experience was less than glowing and prompted this necessary review. First, I now know that just because "spa" is in a name doesn't mean that is the case when the spa looks residential. Originally, I had booked a package with multiple services and ended up only getting two. My issues were the following: 1. Upon booking I was not told there would be construction going on; 2. the order of services was confirmed but then changed around due to "the sauna being downstairs" and general unpreparedness; 3. booking was sketchy with unprofessional communication(I should've known then that something wasn't right when they asked me to send pictures of my credit card and ID to book); 4. due to construction and unfinished decor it was not a spa experience and left much to be desired for a half day of pampering; 5. the literal locker room was unkempt and had no clean-looking slippers (I had to ask for some others because the ones in the lockers looked used); 6. I downgraded my package to two services because the unfinished "spa" was so undone, uncomfortable, and unclean-looking(a dead roach stayed on the ground as if no one else saw it); 7. subpar expensive "facial" with little to no steaming; 8. no essential oils. Overall, the facial and massage were not worth the time and money spent after all the hoopla. Hopefully the "spa" will provide the 5-star service they are reviewed to have once all constructions are complete? I'm leaving 2 stars because the staff were cordial and I believe it was the owner who came and apologized/ offered to make it right. But my hope is this review conveys that my issue was not just with construction noises, it was the issues listed above and questionable cleanliness that ruined the experience for me. I've been here 3 times and all three times I had great service. The first two time I was getting waxing done. Both women were nice and thorough. They wanted to make sure I left satisfied no matter how long that took (and I can be picky). Being in the service industry can be difficult but they really made it seemed as if they loved what thry did! The third time I went, I got laser hair treatment. Please note I went there for another wax, but was recommended laser hair removal based off of my excessive hair due to pcos. I was skeptical at first because I'm African America n and have heard different results can happen because of how dark our skin is. But this was pleasant. Although I could feel the laser, I felt NO pain as she was blowing cold air at the same time. I definitely plan to go back and resume this laser hair treatment! read more

I had the hour massage and facial package; first time at this spa. I had the first available appointment of the day at 9 am, they asked me to arrive 15 minutes prior to appt. I waited at the locked gate until 5 minutes til 9 when someone arrived to unlock it. When I approached the front desk they were not friendly and just walked me back to the "spa" waiting area. The waiting area was not relaxing like most spas...nothing to look at (no magazines/books, no comfortable seats, no tranquil setting) and of course there was no water available to drink. There was still no water to drink after my 2 hours of services. The massage was just ok. Nothing impressive. My facial was really nice. Lisa was the only person in the spa that was friendly (to me) and acted like she really enjoyed me being there and cared about my skin. read more

I have been going to Helena's for over three and a half years now, and yes I have never written a review. It's one of those things I kept meaning to do but never got around to. I have been going there religiously for my Brazilian and other waxing services. I was never disappointed and loved the work they did. Although they are a bit more expensive than other spas, they are very clean and meticulous in their work. I would have to give them a 4-4.5 stars for the services. Now you may be wondering, if you went there for three years, why the one-star review? Well here's the scoop: Seeing as there was a holiday weekend coming up, I was trying to make an appointment with my usual esthetician. When speaking with the receptionist (who I schedule with all the time), she helped me know when my esthetician would be there and we scheduled the appointment for that Saturday. I received a voice mail the following Friday reminding my of my appointment. The girl's voice who left me the message was unknown to me and when I called back to confirm, the same girl informed me that my appointment was for that day (Friday). I explained to her that the other receptionist told me it was Saturday. She rudely told me that no, it was for Friday and did not even offer to see where the scheduling mix-up was. I told her that I would be unable to make it then because I was on the other side of town entertaining family. I was then rudely told that "every time you make an appointment with us, you end up canceling or rescheduling." I was dumbfounded. First, I have maybe canceled/rescheduled appointments a handful of times over the course of 3 and a half years, second, the owner and my esthetician have never counseled me on cancellations or rescheduling and third, why on Earth would a new receptionist say this to a loyal client of over three years? She they proceeded to say that, "a bunch of other people were calling to try to get in with her today and we had you booked up with her for a couple of hours. We need at least 24 hours notice." Again, I thought WTF. It wasn't worth it to argue with her, so I then told her very politely, "Okay, that's fine. Just cancel me and I will no longer go there for my services." (And BTW, anyone who knows me knows I'm a spa junkie, I refer everyone I know to spas I like, and I go every 4 weeks for services... so you do the math on how much business I bring to them.) She then stops and says, "I'm not trying to be rude to you." (and we all know ppl that say that know they ARE being rude). And she proceeds to try to get me to reschedule for that Monday. I tell her again very politely, "No, that's okay, I will no longer go there." Did she try to get the owner, my esthetician, or anyone else on the line to help keep a client? NO. She just says, "OK, sorry" and I hang up. So although I enjoyed their services, I refuse to spend what I spend at a business to be treated like that. **So any referrals to new spas are welcome! =P ** read more

I'll admit it, I'm a freakin' masochist. Bleeding heart? Check. Tortured soul? Check. Helena's gives me the satisfaction of receiving pain while "beautifying" myself. Like Posh Spice said, "short-term pain, long-term pleasure." With that said, I've had my Brazilian's done here before and I absolutely loved them. The spa is located on the second level, and they have to ring you in. When I asked why they do this, they said it's to keep the "creepy men" from coming in there and asking if this place does "special massage treatments." Yeah. When you walk in, you're in a small receiving area with some misc spa items that they're selling. If you're a first timer, they'll have you fill out a medical info form. They then let you freshen up in the restroom before putting you in one of the private rooms for your wax treatment. The rooms are clean, sterile in appearance. They also have a tv in each room that's hooked up to monitor the front entrance. Seriously, they must get a lot of unwanted business there for them to take so much security measures. But I digress. The wax they use is that blue Brazilian wax that's supposed to be better suited for pulling those pesky, unwanted hairs. Each dip/swipe in the wax is done with a new, clean stick. The girls I've had were meticulous in their work, going back even to tweezer out any hairs left. I usually take some form of pain killer an hour before hand just to ease the pain. Yes, it's painful. I had the most curious experience here. During my call to make the appointment, the receptionist asked who I wanted to have my session with. When I told her it was my first visit, she suggested Helena. I was like, really, she's available? Why not? Cool. So when my session started, my esthetician asked me who made my appointment. I was like, huh? Do you mean who called to make it or who at the salon answered the phone? She asked me again and I was like, um, I made it? (confused here) She dropped this line of questioning for a more bizarre one. She asked me why I changed my appointment. I was like, huh? I didn't change it? (even more confusion) Like the first question, she asked it a few times. Then halfway through the session it came out that the esthetician I was with was not Helena. Okay things are sort of starting to make sense. So is she here? Yes, she's in the next room, with another client. I could hear them in there chatting and laughing. My confusion has somewhat abated but now I'm feeling slighted. That's when I realized I was never introduced to my esthetician (I just assumed she was Helena -- she wasn't wearing a name tag.) Isn't it customary, especially if it's one's first visit to a salon? (So-and-so will be performing your service today.) To my knowledge, no one tried to contact me to notify me or to ask if I approved of the change. If that wasn't bad enough, the esthetician was one of the worst I've ever had. She kept burning me with the wax, even after I repeatedly mentioned the wax was too hot. She removed the hair in the wrong direction resulting in a bad grow-back (lots of itching). And she removed the wax too slowly, causing me pain. I like to boast I must be made of steel since I don't normally find waxing to be painful. I guess that's true only if done correctly because this session atypically hurt a surprising amount. Oh well. Off to find a different waxing salon. read more

I've been getting Brazilian waxes for years at Nina's Creations in Kansas City but when I relocated to Houston in January I was very reluctant to get the procedure done here. It goes without saying that is a sensitive area and you just can't let everybody touch your who-ha. Lucky for me, Nina has a sister that lives in Houston and also has a spa! I went to Helena's and was waxed by Helena herself and had a complete 5 star experience. The facility itself is beautiful, quiet, and private. There's even a separate waiting area in the front vs. the back so you don't have to sit out in the open with everyone until you're escorted to your room. The receptionist at the front was friendly and knew who I was when I walked in (even though it was my first visit). The wax itself was different -- she uses a hard wax and then follows with a cream wax but it was the best most thorough wax I've ever received. She even followed with a probe thing that helps eliminate bacteria in the pores. At the end of it, I was completely smooth. And the grow back process (that I usually hate) has been so seamless I didn't even notice that it's almost time for a repeat visit. When you pay, the receptionist rings you up and you place the tip in a tiny envelope and put it in a box for the person that performed your service. I like this *so* much more than what I've usually experienced which is the person that did the service ring you up and you have to say the tip aloud directly to them. I always tip well (they are, after all, taking care of one of my most prized possessions) but this seemed like less pressure. If I had to say one bad thing about the service is that it is not a quick appointment. Total my appointment (virgin not retouch) was about 1.5 hours. I've been looking for a good waxing place for while, and I found it! I had my 1st appointment with Helena last week, and it is everything I was looking for. Helena is a great professional and knows what she does. After my service we talked about the other services, and I ended up scheduling the deep tissue massage with some modifications to attend and help with mine "water retaining" issues ... she directed Tatiana on that and the massage was perfect, I already felt better after my 1 st session and already scheduled a 2nd one. What I want in a waxing boutique is cleanliness, professionalism, and preferably fast and affordable. Helena's is certainly the first three, though a little on the high side price wise. I decided to go all the way and get a Brazilian along with underarms and lower legs... My esthetician, Ira, put me at ease (it is a little embarrassing at first), was very thorough, and was very personable. While I had to wait for my appointment to start, she was fast--which certainly helps with the pain component. I went to Helena's to get a Custom Facial w/ Micro, and unfortunately I was a little disappointed. I get married in 6 months, and I was hoping to really discuss my skin and what the best facial regimen would be for me over the next few months, whether it be peels, or more micros, etc. When I arrived at the spa, I was quickly checked in, but not asked to fill out a form or sign any type of waiver, which I am pretty sure should have happened. My esthetician was nice enough, but did not show any interest in making any recommendations for me even after I told her about my upcoming wedding. Having worked in a day spa when I was in college, I would have thought she would jump at the opportunity to sell me a series or something of that nature. My skin does feel and look good this week following the facial, but I will most likely be looking for another spot next month. read more

Great waxing salon. Clean, beautiful decor and relaxing atmosphere. Lindsay waxed my full face, under arms and Brazilian. It was pricier than I hoped ($215, tip included ) and my forehead and cheeks broke out in a rash after the face waxing. I didn't realize full face meant FULL face. In the past when I've had a face wax at other salons, that just means eyebrows, chin, lip and jaw, but Helenas goes all out! She did warn me I could break out, and Suggest I purchase "Prid" from them to help calm my skin(which I did). It helped some, but I wish I would've bought it from Amazon because it was half the price I paid (only $8 online!). It is CLEAN. This should be first on your priority list for a wax location. Also, they pour out the wax into disposable paper cups and do not reuse the cups. So there is no "re-dipping" or shared wax that you sometimes hear about. As for the process goes, Isabel does a great job. I have had Isabel and Helena and a few other girls but Isabel is my regular esthetician. If you want a comparison to European Wax Center because I have gone to both. EWC: You sign in, walk to the room with your waxer and litterally get dressed in front of them. A bit weird for me. My first time was a Helena's and they left the room for you to get ready and then came back into the room, so I just thought that was standard protocol. For the process, EWC does huge strips! They let the wax cool by room temperature before they remove it. Helena's use ice to harden the wax and then remove it. I mentioned this to the girl at EWC and she said that was wierd. But at the same time, I missed the ice process... EWC was faster, but it definitely is an in and out facility. Helena's is cleaner, more relaxing, nicer looking, just all around a better experience and worth every penny!! Bottom line: Come to Helena's ask for Isabel. read more

Called on a Monday to book 2 massage appointments for that Sunday. One for my sister (90 min hot stone massage) and one for myself (90 min swedish massage). The girl who booked the appointments was helpful and friendly. Saturday morning I received a text to confirm my appointments, I responded, and received multiple texts confirming. Later that day right before 5pm I received a phone call from the spa asking for 2 $50 deposits in order to hold the appointments. He had the massages wrong and booked it as a couples swedish massage, I corrected him and he ensured me they would be separate and one would be a hot stone massage. Leaving a deposit didnt bother me as I've booked numerous massages and leaving a credit card on file is standard practice. Calling me at 5 the day before after already confirming my appointments and then asking me for a deposit less than 24hrs before my appointment definitely bothered me. He told me the massage therapists were coming in on their day off for these appointments and that's why the deposits were needed. First, that's not my problem, Second, not something I want to hear, and Third don't book appointments if you don't have staff scheduled. He ended up charging me one $50 deposit after I complained. We show up Sunday at 12:20 or so for 12:30 apts. There was a sign stating to call to be let in. Once we were let in we check in and are taken upstairs to change into robes. They then call us back and it's the same room. We just go with it. My massage was definitely one of the worst I have ever had. I wouldn't call it a massage exactly, more like a rub down. The round pillow for under your knees while on your back was left on the table while on our stomach, at the very least it should have been moved to under our ankles. (I tried to move it my self but couldn't get it to budge). I'm only 5'3, in order for my face to be in the face rest the pillow ended up under my shins causes my spin to be super out of line. My back was killing me when I got up. The massage therapist had no idea how to handle the sheet and no concept of modesty. Her hair was past her shoulders and left down, which continually fell in my face and on my head as well as grazed over other parts of my body. I literally had to turn my face or move my head to avoid her hair hair on me. (Sister stated the same happened with her therapist). She had a bottle of what I'm assuming was oil which she would place on my bed while not in use once laying against my leg and once against my foot. Honestly I would be amazed if this person has a massage license as literally every aspect of the massage was less than amateur. My massage cost $175 my sister's $225. I left in more pain than when I walked in. Long story short, it was a complete waste of money and I will definitely not be back. They may very well be great at waxing but definitely not at massages. read more

Let me start off by saying that i never usually go back to the same spa place twice due to being so picky! But Helena's changed that! I first went there about 2 years ago for a facial. It was good but i didnt go back for 1 year (got busy) then last year i went twice and asked for sensitive custom facial. I didnt know about the eminence products back then but after that facial i started to buy their products (best choice ive ever made in regards to my skin) i know with this custom facial they used like half eminence products and half another product they have for sale too (which i dont prefer) so when i came back for a facial a few months ago i asked for organic only, and thats when i met the amazing Andrelina. She has given me multiple facials, all with improving my skin! I have roseaca, pigmentation problems, acne and above all, huge ugly pores. But with the products Andrelina used along with microderm treatments, my skin looks so much younger, cleaner, smaller pores, and overall beautiful! I recommend Andrelina for the best facials in houston!!! And my skin is SENSITIVE. But time and time again she does an amazing job. I even bought the special they had 4 facials for the price of 3? Dont quote me but i think thats correct. I will keep buying the facials in packs of 4 if they keep having a good deal!! Along with facials i have also had my cherry angiomas and red veins removed from my face - done by the owner, Helena. Who has done a great job each time. I dont know what the machine she uses is called but it does the job. Now i go back every few months (i get veins and spots regularly from having roseaca unfortunately) Helena is amazing too and never has left a scar on my face. She knows what shes doing. She even removed a cherry angioma from right under my right eye (bottom eye lid almost) and my skin there is thin but i still didnt get a scar!!!! Thats talent. Everyone please go to Helenas!
