Probably the best sausage and egg sandwich I've had in a while. Although not that these are actaul sausages rather than patties. The inside is small but there's a few tables for seating. Service was rather quick which is good as you may find people standing around for take away orders near the entrance. So let's break it down as it's just a sausage sandwich but then again it's not as it's packed with flavor the sausage has a very good flavor to it that's enjoyable to the end with a snap of the skin with each tasty bite that seems to be better than the last one as this time you managed to get some of the egg with it that seems to hide under the two good sized delicious sausage links inside that wonderful roll that just makes the whole sausage sandwich just right tell the end! This is it. Our new *regular* brunch stop on the way to the beach. It's been hiding here in plain sight all this time. Very easy to miss on the way by, it's just a little white shack on the side of the road with some cheesy hand-painted signs on it, maybe reminiscent of an old time gas station, which it very well may have been 50 years ago. A line of locals, likely on their way to work, wrapped out into the parking lot early on this October morning. I understand this is a daily occurrence here. Nothing glamorous inside, from the old wood paneling to the Elvis memorabilia - lived-in, but cared for. Practical. There was a small dining room in the back. Their system is rustic, but highly streamlined. Our line moved so fast and orders were handled so efficiently by two elderly ladies behind the counter, we barely had time to figure out the customary local term for the *regular* breakfast order- "a double with egg and cheese." Wanting to keep moving, we took our brown paper bag to the car. Kind of sloppy, so I don't necessarily recommend doing this. You'll find TWO *big* links on a fresh but fairly small sub roll filled with an egg over-easy and melted cheddar. They were reddish in color, with lightly charred ends - I suppose I would say they were in the style of Knackwurst, with their crisp casings (apparently you can buy them by the case as well). And for six dollars, I would have still considered it a generous portion with only one per sandwich. I can't speak for the other items on the menu, such as the burgers and pork chop platter, but from pictures, comments and intuition, I'd bet they're right up there with the remarkable sausage. Ask me next year. This is guaranteed to beat any reheated old breakfast sandwich you'll find on the road from home to OC. Plus you won't have to eat again 'til dinner! read more

My husband and I had an opportunity to try this place out. It is a little hole-in-the-wall but it is extremely busy and they generally sell out between 11 and 12 so get there early. The ladies that work the counter are very helpful and process orders very quickly. They only take cash so make sure you prepare, if not there is an ATM inside the restaurant. The sandwich was overall okay, nothing really special but what I really liked was the snap on the casing of the sausage and its seasoning. Dozens of people have told me to try out Helen's. Glad I finally did I got a sausage egg and cheese, came with 2 nice sized sausages on a soft roll. The fried sasuage was great, had a nice crunch on the outer layer that a regularly cooked grill sasuage can't replicate. I heard it's from Kirby Holloway, which makes sense why it's some good sasuage. I will say from a sandwich perspective I originally wanted to take out the 2nd sasuage because it was to big for the sandwich and roll. With the one link it was a perfect sandwich you could get all the flavors every bite. With the 2nd sasuage it completely overpowered everything else in the sandwich. Overall this was still a great sandwich, for only 5 dollars and you save a couple dollars from the tolls. You can get a great breakfast sandwich. Definitely recommend read more

The sausage breakfast sandwich was good. The fried bologna egg sandwich was ok 2 slices of your most basic white bread and not anything I would rave about. Good for them that they are doing well but if you have travelled on rt 13 there are literally no choices so this is intriguing to new comers and sought after by locals for the basic breakfast garb. The coffee was sub par in my opinion but you wouldn't expect a good roast here. The home fries were questionable? A gob of half cooked potatoes in a to go dish that i ended up not eating after the first bite. That said, the people and service are top notch and "intimate" as In personal. This place looks like a dump, but I can state with utmost confidence that if you need a breakfast, this is the place that you go to out of any other place in Delaware. You may miss it on Rt. 13 while driving down, but if you look out for the cinderbrick building with trucks, cars, vans and so on coming out of it, then you found her. The line is long, but runs through amazingly quickly; you can be ten customers deep and you'd still be in front in about five minutes or so. Enjoy the vague 70s decor and the Elvis stuff too; it complements the feel of it being a dump with a heart of gold... and cholestorol. I seriously recommend getting their signature sausage; it's the best sausage you'll taste in the state, and I'll be bold and say it's also the best on the East Coast. But I would not suggest getting their hot variant, if only because that isn't something they personally make. Their platters are pretty good, and they make the second best home-fries I've eaten, the first being my family's recipe. Other good items from them are their eggs, which go great with the wizz and sausage if you get a double sausage sandwich w/cheese, and I can also suggest scrapple for those who like it. But if you aren't coming for the sausage, then you'll miss out on their best item. The best part? They sell their sausage in bulk too, meaning you can chow down on them at any time. read more

The service was great. A small area to dine in. Elvis everywhere. Not only was the sandwich great but it was super cheap like $4.50. OMG great.
