So I used to love this place. The covid operation here is not ok. They charge you an extra $5 for every drink Because you have to have food however they don't surf food they have a food truck parked here that they have an agreement with so then you take your five dollar voucher down to the truck and they don't even sell anything for $5 and have to spend more money for food just to get one beer it ends up being $11-$15 last time I come here until this is over. I've been to plenty other bar since Covid and none of them are doing anything quite this ridiculous. read more

I visited this place on a Saturday evening for a retirement party located in the Sourworx building. The location has 2 separate buildings with beer offerings on both sides, one with IPAs and the other more of sours. I was impressed with the various options. There was a nice courtyard in the middle with live music. The vibe was great with a mixture of families with littles, couples and groups of people hanging out. I'd definitely come back! read more

Came here on a quick pit stop to a football game and I tried a west coast IPA mountains which was good but not the best I've had and my wife had 1 of there many sours which she said was good also but nothing to rave about. Another newer very good brewery. Been here twice and it didn't disappoint. The have very good beers across the board. The double IPA and black eye eye IPA are the smoothest ever without a lot of bold flavors. Nothing over 7.8% but that's not a bad thing.. Don't forget to try "Honor not inner"oatmeal stout. Industrial La Mesa area close to Spring street and east freeway access. They have food trucks some evenings here too. Very cool place to have excellent beer, a relaxing vibe with friendly and pretty serving staff, and on Friday and Saturday nights there is live music from 6ish to 9pm. It is so cool to sit outdoors, listen to live music, and drink local crafted beer. I just wish I could walk there, but the freeway access is excellent, parking is easy and there is always a very good food truck. What else can i say? Just a great spot. Wow, I had not been back to this place since they opened and the place is even better than it was. I brought my dog and had invited friends with kids. The place is super dog-friendly. The outside space was very cool and the 2 big warehouses were really cool as well. The selection of beer was top. I even liked the Sours. The 2 things missing was good food and non-alcoholic drinks for kids. There was a food truck, but that can be super limiting. I would definitely go back and I highly recommend a visit if you have not been or not been back in a while. I hope that they think again their strategy of not having food and serving non- alcoholic drinks. read more

Helix brewing is one of east county's hidden treasures. Marked by rustic decor and brickwork, the ivy and other trees/plants provide a welcoming atmosphere. Helix brewing consists of indoor and outdoor seating and often features a different food truck each day of the week with the addition of live music on occasion. It is easy to miss if you're just passing by but once you have been it is an experience you will never forget. Passing through the entrance, patrons are greeted by typical backyard games such as cornhole and giant jenga which make the place seem like an adult playground. The overall atmosphere of the brewery would be hip with a rustic feel but enough of the decor this place is known for beer and the sure do deliver. When I visited I tried the galaxy rye, the stanky dank and the stoner moment* (favorite**) all of which are IPA's with anywhere from 6.5%-7.5%. As noted the stoner moment was my favorite beer and I ended up taking a growler home for my Dad who loved it. Aside from having stellar beer and a wide selection of sours... this place is KID and dog friendly! I love how family oriented Helix Brewing is and love that there are so many well behaved dogs that visit. They have different food trucks so you always have a variety of food to eat and as you drink and eat ... your kids can play corn hole and love on the dogs. I just love this place! I'm obsessed by their building and patio... so much so that I prefer it to Magnolia Farms decor! The staff is always friendly and get this... the best prices for tasty beer! From the street where I parked I saw a food truck and the end of the building, and I wasn't expecting much as I rounded the corner to enter the property. I was immediately struck by how large the place is, including a big outdoor patio--with a tree, a stage, and some nice places to sit. There was a guitar player entertaining the fairly large crowd. (Including some kids and dogs. We were there until about 10pm on a Friday and it was consistently busy all night, which tells you they have a loyal following.) The long, narrow interior space containing the bar and brew house is brick, old wooden trusses and a corrugated iron roof; it sounds industrial, but it was really very pleasant. Inside there are a few seats along the bar, a series of high tops and a long low table right next to the tanks, where we sat. The cold box is visible through windows behind the bar. The bar staff were busy but friendly, helpful and quick. They were pouring eleven beers that night, including a diverse array of choices. I really enjoyed the beer. It is well-made and tasty. Bolt Brewing is also in the same area, so you could do a two-stop beer tour. It is a little hard to get to off the 8, with some weird winding roads, strange intersections and one-ways, but trust your GPS and you'll get there. Parking is difficult, so go after regular business hours when everything else in this commercial area is closed and you can use their spaces. I am on a quest to visit every brewery and tasting room in San Diego. read more

Whoa. The beer is so good. Between my girlfriend and myself, we started with the Helix Pale and the imperial red ale (I forgot the name). The pale was really light and crisp in body. I believe it has Centennial, cascade, and citra but not overly bitter at all (and don't get me wrong, I love bitterness, this was just light bodied despite the hop bill). The red imperial was everything you want from a red ale. A nice toasty maltiness with a clutch hop balance. We ended with a taster of Stoner Moment which was really good and then a pint of king Rufus chocolate porter which was really nice and the galaxy rye. I can be iffy on porters but this was really chocolatey and nice. As for the galaxy rye...bruh. Possibly one of the best beers I have had in a while. Galaxy hops, rye, and passion fruit? Executed perfectly! Enough about the beer Blaine! What about the setting? A nice gem in the rough of a La Mesa industrial park. Little rugrats abounds and dog friendly with a taco truck to boot. I finally got a chance to stop by Helix Brewing Co., and I was pleasantly surprised. I really like the character of the building. They've managed to keep the industrial feel of the neighborhood intact, while creating a space that feels warm and open. Obviously a lot of thought was put into the planning and layout of this space. It's definitely patron friendly. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is shaded. If you're sitting inside, they do have a tv for viewing sports. There's also a water cooler with cups for patrons to help themselves. It's dog friendly. Right now they have eight beers on tap. We got tasters and tried all eight. I would never hold myself out as a beer expert, so I usually just ask Walter to order for me since he's good at figuring out what I like. Even with the tasters he can predict which ones I will like. Neither of us liked the Acid Drop. I know that for me it was just too sweet tasting, I'm just not into that. I did like the Red 'N Active and the Active IPA from the first set of tasters. On the second set of tasters I preferred the Galaxy Rye and the Black Eye Rye. Both of which were IPAs, I guess someone is sneaking them into my palate. I didn't like the King Rufus Porter, which was a chocolate rye porter. I've tried other chocolate porters and this one just didn't do it for me. I did think the Honor Not Inner, the oatmeal stout, was smooth and enjoyable. We ended up ordering pints of all the IPAs and sharing. Service is very friendly here. They just recently opened. I called ahead on the Sunday afternoon to ask if they were kid friendly and they said yes. I brought my son with a bag of Legos and he sat at the table and did his own thing. They have a small amount of apparel available for sale, they did say they have more coming in this week. Parking is tight. You need to park in spaces that aren't reserved for the nearby businesses, ie, not the tow away spaces. If you're not from or familiar with the area, it may be confusing the first time you come here. I visited Helix on Wednesday at around 430-5pm and I was pleased to see a food truck outside of the brewery. If you have read my other reviews, food is often the deciding factor between a four and five star rating at a brewery so Helix was off to a good star. The #1 thing I love about Helix though is their overall atmosphere. I love the lights, I love the plants, and the whole set up. You might be wondering well why did she only give a three star rating. Location: The service here was quite the disappointment. Walking in I was super excited but approaching the bar was less than welcoming. The bartender appeared very occupied by the UFC fight on tv. When I finally decided I asked for 3 tasters of the Acid Drop, Helix Pale Ale, and the Red N Active. The bartender didn't tell me which glass was which. Luckily Hefs, Blondes, and the red ale have distinguishable colors that I knew. Further, when I told him I wanted to close my tab he kept my card so I had to remind him that I wanted to close it out. He definitely wasn't too friendly and seemed very preoccupied with the fight. Beer: Out of the three beers I tried, I surprisedly like the RNA. Hefs are my favorite so really, I can never go wrong with that. The Acid Drop reminded me more of a sour than a blonde but I'm not complaining about that. The reason I didn't love it was that it was little on the watered down side for me. I really wanted to try more but if I'm being completely honest, the service kind of turned me off and I was ready to go. I will definitely come back to give it another chance because its within my area and there was such a variety of beers I'm itching to try more. Food: The bacon truck was there but I didn't get any food. They also had some pretzels at the bar that looked really good too haha! All in all, I wish I had a better experience because the place itself has such a chill vibe and I can see myself hanging out there for hours. They had awesome games as well and seems like a fun time. First time visit last night was good. I like the space, the set up and the beer was ok. I enjoyed watching the game and actualy had a bug in my beer and the lady behind counter told me to cover our cups(not very reassuring) She did replace the amount I had but kind of off to me. I tried the marijuana IPA [best try] , Allstralia IPA (did not like this at all). I left with two Helix glasses which I really digged and checked out Sourworx across the way. Sourworx was my favorite. I love their sours!!!tried their red, passionfruit and blonde sour. I will definitely be back to sourworx. I am hoping that i will have a better time at Helix next visit, because so many have hyped this place up! read more

Sweet new brewery in town ! Slightly small but very unique selection of beers ranging from Bavarian Weizens to a Chocolate Stout. Mostly IPAs and Ale here. Sweet patio with enough shading and bags to play. Inside seating available with open windows. Vibe is "chill" and non pretentious. Tucker, the brewery's dog, roams around freely- super sweet, loves attention but is independent. Soft opening came with amazing tri-tip sandwiches and spicy beans. Hoping they will have a food truck around ! Parking may be a little tough, the streets have some side parking parallel to businesses that are not marked as Private Only ...so watch for those ! Great staff, great environment, great vibe, great. Pros - Beer variety - DOG FRIENDLY - Warm setting - Plenty of outside seating - Music volume is not too high - Games (board and cornhole!) Was told that food trucks come by and they occasionally have live music! Definitely going to check that out next time. This brewery has a family culture vibe to it. One side you'll see a couple with a stroller and the other side will see kids running around playing tag. Great mix of people however I wish there was a 21+ rule after 7pm or so. Beer rating: 3.95/5 Price range from $5-8 Not bad at all. The porter tasted more like coffee than chocolate but I very well enjoyed it. Very smooth. So was the Helix Pale Ale. The Acid Drop however was more of a sour and tasted light, like super light. I dig the decor and environment. Perfect place to meet a tinder date. read more

Interesting location. At first I was confused by it. I had to double back and one way street it but I found parking right in front. Then, I felt a little weird stumbling through the cornhole game to get to the bar. Dudes were cool about it though. After an awkward beer ordering situation I tasted my beer, made my way to the beer garden, and calmed the F down. This place is so chill. Nice music, fresh air, sunny garden action and GOOD BEER. I've been to a few obnoxious breweries lately with flat nitro beer and hipster crowd banter so I expected nothing less. Helix is just better than the rest. My husband and I moved to Fletcher Hills last summer and have been checking out all of the local breweries. I have to say that Helix is my favorite so far! The beers are great and the staff have all been really friendly. I love the decor.....understated but really cool, a number of different seating areas, and it's dog friendly! It's also nice that they have rotating food vendors since they don't have a kitchen. I haven't yet been on a night with live music but that's definitely in the near future! And on top of all that, they have super cute merchandise. I am in love with my Helix Brewing hat! read more

I was at Helix Brewery with my family and friends last night. We wanted to try it since one of our friends recommended it. The brick building was very trendy, metal wooden tables through out, really nice plants everywhere you turned. I loved the lights that hung from above, it gave it a really nice warm feel. I was happy about the kid friendly atmosphere, they provided board games for the kids. I know we need to have our 2 yr old boy entertained, for momma and pappa to enjoy a few beers. The food trucks change on daily basis, which is really cool. Last night it was taco night, a lil dissappointed though. I ordered the shrimp tacos, which included 4 small tacos with two large shrimps each with cabbage, tomatoe, sourcream and cheese. I was hoping for pico de gallo and guacamole. So the tacos were just Ok. Will definitely come back on a different night. The bartender (Guy with green shirt) I later found out that he was the owner of the brewery. He should really consider hiring help. Why I say that is because, he was picking up glasses, food plates and trash through out the brewery. He was doing a good job of multi-tasking, but he was spreading himself to thin I feel. Some customers wanted to order beer and had to wait until he came back to bar to dispense beer for them. I tried a flight of 4 beers: Red Ale, Session IPA, Oatmeal Stout and Chocolate Porter. One recommendation, maybe having identifiers for the beer flights, for those new to craft beer. Luckily I know my beer by look and taste, but someone new may of had a hard time figuring out what they were drinking. The beer was good just a little warm for my taste. I was able to try this place after a friend brought me here. It was a beautiful spring Friday afternoon and it was great weather to sit out in the cute patio they have. I tried the chocolate rye porter. It was a great full body beer with a great chocolate flavor. There was also a little Organic Food truck outside. I decided to try the lobster macaroni and cheese. The macaroni and cheese was creamy and had good flavor. It was a bit overcooked for my taste and it did have very little lobster. The food did come out pretty quickly and the staff was nice. I also tried the Belgian Blonde Ale which had a clean crisp taste to it. The brewery itself is so cute. It is family friendly and dog friendly as I saw families sitting out in the patio. The live entertainment definitely added to the ambiance outside. Everybody was very friendly, beers were good and the brewery itself has a lot of character.
