First, I have to say, for the few that gave low ratings, it never ceases to amaze me how entitled some reviewers sound. It's clear they didn't grow up Greek or Macedonian and the nasty language in one review was unnecessary, uncalled for and extremely disrespectful. I have made the trip from Jackson and Lansing to this bakery for years for whole sheets of spanakopita and tiropita. They are truly worth the trip simply for that. I also love the tsoureki sweet bread when it's available during the holidays. It's just like my yia yia used to make. I find this bakery and their offerings to be very authentic to what I am accustomed to from a family-run small business and have always been pleased with my experience. We stopped in because it looked like a cute little shop. Although it is small they have a lot of basic Greek supplies. I chatted with the staff a bit and she was so kind. She told me about all the different cheeses they had available and offered me a sample of each one. She was very knowledgeable about all the products. This is a small family owned bakery. What they have is quality fresh products. No preservatives means ... not a long shelf life. Have you tried their spinach pies, cheese pies or delicious fresh bread ? Baklava with walnuts and plain biscotti that aren't sweet? No one else compares to these hand made products. Absolutely delicious. They have the GREEK/ Mediterranean staples. And Greek wines. Not your Big Box store just the perfect amount reminiscent of the shops in Greece. Wonderful Greek bakery and grocery! I buy my olive oil there ($12-20) for a large can of oil, which is an excellent buy. I also will purchase spanakopeta and tiropeta by the tray...around $20 for a full tray! Their kalamata olives and feta in the deli counter is always fresh. Their grocery supply is small, but compared to any other local grocer, they carry the biggest selection of Mediterranean with the most reasonable prices. For instance, I bought the largest container of Kalas (sea salt) for $2.09. The staff is very friendly and courteous also. I can't forget to mention the delicious baklava, kourambiethes, galaktoboureko, koulourakia and homemade bread! Tip: call ahead to order a pan of spanakopeta or tiropita, they'll have it ready and waiting for you! read more

First off, this place hasn't changed in years. I don't even know how they in business with their empty shelves and shitty quality food. I bought a tray of baklava thinking it will be great because I had bought it a couple of years ago and was impressed with how good and authentic it tasted. I have had my share of baklavas in my life. I know what good baklava is. I go in, I ask the lady for a tray and she goes in the back doing god knows what for what must have been like 5 minutes. Absolutely no respect for my time. I also grabbed kadaiffi and some almonds made in California. I came home and tried the atrocity she sells aka baklava. I spit out the bite instantly, I was so fucking offended and I felt robbed. She must have made it with the weirdest oil in existence. The phillo sheets were all crumbly and fell apart and the taste was oily, syrupy disgusting bland mess. The kadaiffi was the most atrocious sweet taste I've had in my entire life. I took $50 worth of food I bought her her godforsaken store and threw it all in the fucking trash. This bitch even managed to get me to spit out the almonds cause they were stale as fuck. Fuck this bitch and her store. FUCK THEM read more

After frequenting this market for several years, I will not be returning. Easter time is certainly one of the busiest times for this place but when I asked if the bread was fresh and made today, I was told yes! When I cut a slice later that day and took a bite I was disgusted by how dry and old tasting it was. No doubt that this had to have been in a freezer probably since last year and then it gets sold to those who don't speak fluent Greek. The selection of cheese was not plentiful. When I asked for cheese that I would be grating for spaghetti I was sold a soft cheese that simply did not grate well. Luckily the Mediterranean market in Ann Arbor sells all that I need. read more

It wasn't at all what I thought it was going to be...I thought it would be something similar to going to Cantoro's, The Italian Bakery...The shelves were bare. There were three loaves of bread and a sheet of cookie like treats (9:30 a.m) It's itsty bitsy tiny. The poor guy at the counter probably thought I was crazy. I walked in, walked up the one row and back down the second row. The back row had several offerings of large containers of spices. I looked for all of the specialty items, but I've found more selection at Hillers and Westborne. No offense to the owners of this bakery. I guess, I misunderstood the previous reviewers. read more

I love the Hellenic market like stepping back in time with the wonderful smells, delicious foods. I will stop just to pick up a piece of spinach pie but never leave with less than a 1/2 doz and a loaf of bread. The cheeses I can't find elsewhere unless I went to the old country.
