Due to a food allergy I didn't want to style the tart myself. I contacted a number of local bakeries as well as Plum Market, Whole Foods, Zingermans and more. None could accommodate my specific request. Finally, I came across sweet dreams and they were able to make me a beautiful raspberry tart to use for my images, based on the appearance, I wanted and in a timely manner. My friend had been talking up their chocolate chip hamantaschen, so I got one of those and a raspberry one, plus a black and white cookie. It's been many years since I've had hamantaschen, but theirs was pretty good. However, I was a little disappointed in the black and white cookie... I've had those from New York before and also from Trader Joe's and I thought the cookie here was just okay. That being said, everything else in their display case also looked really good, especially the homemade bagels and bagel sticks, so I will be back at some point to try more of the selection. Pricing was pretty fair as well, the hamantaschen was $1.90 each and the cookie was $3.50.

This is a cake shop that stands out above the rest because of how down to earth the staff is, how customer oriented they are (willing to deliver cakes just about anywhere, but practical about how important it is to eat a cake soon after making it), and how delicious the food is. My fiancé and I have been to several cake shops for our wedding and have very particular goals. Their staff is completely dedicated toward getting it right. Everything we've tried has been delicious, almost too decadent from the cakes to croissants to sandwiches. We've also had their coffees and hot chocolate. Can't go wrong with a handcrafted beverage to warm you up or cool you down. They do provide a water carafe on the house you just have to go up and get water yourself either way the cups provided. There is a side register near the exit, not sure if that's just for coffee or pickups. Haven't investigated that yet. They have some seating inside of tables and bar seating but nothing more the a 2-3 seats per table, not a place for a large group. Outside on the patio they have large umbrellas and heat lamps depending on the weather. It's also better luck to find a table that can accommodate 4 outside, although the tables are small cafe tables to it's a little cramped for 4, perfect for 2-3. They have low and high top tables available. If you do have a larger group, there is a park a block and a half up Eton that has picnic tables and benches so you can always take your treasures to go and enjoy some people watching at the park. Ample parking is available in the lot just make sure you go in the correct driveway at the north end since it's a one way in/out situation.

I asked the man behind the counter if there would be a discount if I bought the entire stock of one of the desserts in the display case (about three dozen). He went and got who I assumed was his wife, who wasn't happy to wait on me. She said the desserts were sold by the pound. (I had intended to purchase more than three dozen desserts and would have bought several dozen more desserts had their attitude been different.) I wanted the desserts that were in the display, so I asked what the cost was for all three dozen. The woman begrudgingly began to weigh them and told me it would be "$30 for all of them." I asked her if she would put them in a box for me. She again begrudgingly said that she could put them on a tray but that she would have to charge me for the tray. Never before have I been charged for a tray for a bakery item that I purchased. She ended up charging me $3.00 for the aluminum tray, stating that "trays are very expensive." I'm surprised that she didn't also charge me for the plastic cover. While I was there, another customer came in who happened to speak their language, and the couple was very polite to her and smiled and gladly helped her. I can only surmise that it was my blonde hair and blue eyes that they didn't like, or perhaps the fact that I didn't speak their language. I wasn't looking for a handout; merely to be treated fairly and with respect. If they don't want to treat all their customers fairly, they shouldn't be in business. I live in West Bloomfield, and I've never encountered this kind of treatment before by any shop proprietor. As I was leaving, I could hear the woman in the back room complaining to another employee about the fact that I had asked for a tray for the desserts that I purchased. I told her husband that she shouldn't be complaining about a customer who just made a purchase from their shop. I won't be returning to their bakery and from now on will go back to Sweet Dreams. Sweet Dreams at 4153 Orchard Lake Road is amazing, the desserts are out of this world, and the staff knows how to treat their customers. I wouldn't recommend that anyone give Adela's their business. By the way, my grandparents were immigrants from East Central Europe. They and my parents taught me better than to treat people the way these shop owners treated me.
