I just found out about this market that sells Polish and Mediterranean foods. Most are important in our real imported foods, mostly written in Russia or Polish name is the Polanka Market is located on Plymouth Road east of Middlebelt on the south side of Plymouth Road. It's a small place so look carefully. You won't regret it if you're in the mind for this type of food, they also have all kinds of prepared food for dinner, dishes, disorder, or whatever both first they bake cooked or set up in a freezer. Clean, organized, fair prices that can honestly be a one stop shop. I was in the area and by chance stumbled upon this store on the week of thanksgiving. From fresh sauerkraut, meatballs, stuffed cabbages and "Chinese coleslaw" to frozen polish crepes and pierogis. We bought some Angel wings (fried dough with powdered sugar) in addition to some items I listed. They even have snacks that are way cheaper than Kroger and Meijer and when you got two little black holes hungry every 15 mins, this is a nice stop to find. The fresh items like the slaw and the sauerkraut was not to my liking (too sweet for the slaw), I would still want to return to buy more snacks and instant dill pickle soup for those busy days, try out more of their baked goods (angel wings were delicious), and the frozen pierogis. read more

It's been a minute since I wrote my last review so I think it's time to write an update. Not much has honestly changed here since I last wrote ELEVEN YEARS AGO, but that's a testament to their quality and longevity. The sausage here is still great (the double smoked is my favorite) and they have a really good selection of other smoked meats (the smoked Canadian bacon is another fave of mine and my mom always grabs some slab bacon and head cheese for their house). They have a light selection of baked goods like apple cakes, cheesecakes, and a few small bites like creme horns and chruściki. There are some light dry goods here, a few cookies, some noodles, jarred goods, etc. Not a huge selection but I usually find everything I need. They also have a great array of prepackaged pierogi in sweet (blueberry, cherry) to savory (meat, sauerkraut, potato & cheese, etc) flavors. And in the refrigerated section they also have some premade foods to reheat like nalesniki, fried cutlets, gołąbki and more. Prices are really reasonable and though it doesn't look super fancy in there they have a nice array of staples and treats. Check them out! read more

I guess I'm too polish. Tried the city chicken and I was disappointed. No seasoning on them what so ever. The ingredients said they use pork tenderloin. I think if they used pork shoulder. The shoulder gets the tenderness this type meal needs. Garlic powder onion powder and salt and pepper would take up the blandness of these city chickens. Tried they're smoked keilbasa. Had nice smokey flavor but really slight garlicky taste. With little or no pepper. I realize this is only my opinion. So with that being said. Give them a try. Very clean business. This is a two-part review - first for the store/food, then for the owner/operators. I've been going here for several years and the place is decent enough if you need some kielbasa - but it doesn't compare to Srodek's or Polish Market. For some reason, they get their kielbasa from Chicago which is puzzling considering the excellent kielbasa made right here in the Detroit area. I grew up on the stuff, and their kielbasa is NOT the same quality as Srodek's or even Kowalski - it contains a noticeable amount more of fat (which is cheaper than lean meat). Their pierogis are small, frozen and expensive - I couldn't get away serving them at my house. I do like their ready-to-eat chicken cutlets, city chicken and potato pancakes. The brand of horseradish they sell is from Canada and contains sugar and artificial flavor - eeew. For me, the bottom line is that this is a place I'll visit if/when I can't make it to Srodek's. The second part of my review has to do with my most recent visit on 4/11/20, during the Corona virus lockdown. I called ahead to the store to see if they were open and offering curbside pickup. The lady who answered said they were open and people could come in and shop. When I arrived, much to my surprise, people were allowed to enter the store at will; there was no limit to how many people were allowed in the store, so it was difficult to maintain a safe distance from other customers in this little store space. Half the people in the store were wearing the recommended masks, but many weren't. Shockingly, NONE of the store employees were wearing masks or gloves. Horrifyingly, the two ladies at the register were NOT wearing any kind of protection: NO GLOVES, NOTHING. When they finished ringing up the person in front of me, I expected them to spray down/wipe/sanitize the counter but they did nothing of the sort. In fact, the lady had to take my credit card (with her bare hands) to swipe it in the machine. I cringed when she did this, thinking about how many other credit cards she may have contaminated, then handed back to a customer. I just couldn't believe they are so careless during this dangerous time. Luckily, I brought a cloth soaked with 91% alcohol, so I wiped everything down when I got to my car. If they are this careless/thoughtless during a deadly pandemic, it makes me wonder if they are similarly careless when they prepare food for sale during 'normal' times. CAVEAT EMPTOR! read more

Small store with some authentic Polish favorites. If you just want to get a quick fix of the food your grandma used to make its a good choice since they have some precooked and packaged options in their fridges ready to eat. The packaged pierogies were small but pretty good. read more

I am so happy to discover this great little market so close to home. As much as I love exploring Hamtramck, its a 40 minute drive and sometimes I need crepes, dill pickle soup and pierogis faster than that and with less planning. Whether you are in need of a fully cooked, genuinely Polish dinner or a great selection of imported prodcuts, Polanka is the West-Sider's answer to quality Polish food. I was disappointed with the lack of a bakery selection. There is still plenty of sweet goodness to fill your craving, but it was in the form of packaged cookies and chocolates. The deli selection was quite good, with many kielbasa choices in a range of prices, as well as other meats and cheeses. For the small size of the market, I found the overall selection quite good. I couldn't read many of the packages, but I think this is a great sign in an ethnic grocery store. The worst part was driving home, smelling my keilbasa and not being able to dig in right in the car! read more

Just happened to pass this on the way home from going to eat. So what the heck decided to go in for something sweet. At first sight I noticed right off that it was more than a bakery. They had multiple refrigerated cases with tons of premade foods such as pasties, soups and salads and many things I couldnt even pronounce. But all looked delicious. Then further in there is a grocery section with tins of polish ingredients from sauces, noodles to seasonings and cookies. They also have a long row of freezers with packaged pierogis. They came in a ton of different flavors from farmers cheese, sauerkraut to blueberry and prune. There is a bakery with pastries, angel wings and bread. I grabbed a box of angel wings and a cream filled pastry and was on my way. I would go back again if I have have polish night at my house because the variety was great! read more

I came here mostly for convenience since it's close to home. However, it just doesn't compare to other Polish markets. As others have mentioned, they lack in the bakery department, it's mostly chrusciki and a couple loaves of bread. That's a little misleading since "bakery" is included in the sign outside. It's mostly a deli and they have a fair amount of meat, including Polish selections. read more

Friendly and helpful staff, and excellent kielbasa / packaged polish food! Their food reminds me of Wigilia when I was very young and my grand parents / great aunts made the food. I gave them 4 stars because they certainly do not have the selection of the larger polish markets like Srodek's in Ham town, or Polish Village in Troy if you are looking for more obscure things. In their defense I'm not sure the area would support a larger store, so maybe the size is based on what that area will support. Overall, when I am in the area I do stop in and get things because it is good... but if I have to make a special trip, I would likely head to Srodek's as they have more options. read more

Coming from a Polish family who never turns down a Polka at a wedding, my mom and I checked this place out today. It's a very cute little market with a nice meat selection including fresh kielbasa and "Grandma's Polish Ham". I picked up some dill pickle soup and frozen pierogis. My mom got a jar of pickles, hot horseradish, flour and City Chicken. Really a great selection of Polish goodies. The sweets looked tempting, but maybe another time... Parking lot seemed fine, so maybe they updated it a bit. read more

It's a small shop, but good. Great place for getting lunchmeats, breads, and home style meals 'to go'. (It's NOTa dine in place). It's been there for years, so they must have steady business.I've been going weekly for about 2 years now. They have a deli, baked sweets and breads, and other grocery items - many from Poland. They make a lot of home made foods on site. Most are real good. I really like their galobki (stuffed cabbage), which are very much like Mom used to make. I like the cooked meatballs in gravy, and get some containers of chicken noodle soups every week almost. She makes her chicken broth on site. I also usually get a container of either the chicken, or pork, 'gelatin' which I add to the chicken noodle soup. It's all natural chicken broth she makes - no additives or preservatives. It's correctly called a 'bone broth'. I've tried most of her cooked foods. they are all good. City Chicken, meatballs, galobki, sauerkraut with kielbasa, The one thing they do not make on site is pierogis, but they carry a frozen brand which is better than others I've tried, although not as good as Mom's. She does make a few different things every so often - try them if you spot them - apple pie, ground beef pot pies, bean and sausage soup, fried chicken/cheese 'cutlets'. I like the food here. I recommend trying a few items, and seeing if you do too. read more

This is one of my favorite places to grocery shop. The deli prices are excellent, the ham, sausage, and salami often get eaten on the way home. The juices are fun to try, the fresh baked crusty bread is out of this world! I especially like the 90% dark chocolate and Polish teas and desserts! They offer precooked pork chops and stuffed cabbage which I often bring to work or serve to my family for a quick and delicious meal. Every time I go there is something new to discover, and it is fun to often find Polish speaking customers strike up conversations with the staff. You might forget you are in Livonia! read more

This is the "real deal". Unbelievable display of good quality smoked polish sauasge, made with good nice cuts of meat. Priced fairly. Different varities of wonderful perogi's. And take out sizes of many authentic polish meals. This place puts "Kowalski's to shame for the simple reason that its quality is "so much higher". I had a blast finding the traditional favorites my grandmother used to make. Their patrys are "to die for". We bought some "high quality" deli meats(very flavorful head cheese, sliced pork, and some of their FRESH homemade hard crusted knot rolls. Went into the car and made us a great sandwich for the 3 hour drive home to Northern Mi. But, of course, they'll make you a great sandwich to go!.Great variety of perogie's from "meat, to potatoe & cheese to Mushroom filled! Excellent, not "thick and doughy".We'll definitly drive the 3 hours in every couple months to stock up". I thought their homemade smoked kielbaska(5 to choose from) was MUCH better than Hamtramck, or the polish store in Bay City.EXCELLENT, nice helpful people!.Desserts are to die for! Make it a point to go there! A rare find indeed...Oh, you can even buy single serving dinner items such as surekruat & Mushrooms, dill soup, stuffed cabbage, "city chicken"(Very hard to find) , all the authentic polish favorites your grandmother used to make. We need "more" of these high quality ethnic stores across Michigan. Someone wrote that there wasn't much in bakery treat...She must not have "paid attention". Yes, the place is too small" for a large bakery section", but what they "did have" were homemade pastries made from scratch to DIE for!. And, they will "make you a sandwich to go for the road"...Us, we bought some delicious deli meats, some fresh baked rolls(still warm) and I made sandwiches in the car...Simple! Oh, and did I have the patience to "wait 3 hours before I got home to "dig into the 3 varities of flavorful smoked Kielbaska? Heck no! we tore off a piece of each and snacked on it!~laughing~ It was a "picnic in the car" all the way home! UPDATE! Well, today I reheated the homemade "city Chicken" I purchased. It's totally cooked, but to reheat "polish style" put city chicken in a cassorole dish(oblong) spray with PAM, add sauteed chunks of onion and celery and garlic. A bit of chicken broth about a 1/4 inch deep. Season to taste. Place city chicken" on top of this mix. Cover with foil and reheat till warm. Serve with mashed potatoes and gravy on the side.Or really "whatever you want. Please do not "nuk these , as it will make crispy breaded coating soft. Buying them "alread cooked" from this Polish store, saves u a lot of work. Then you "finish them off as I did. I was not sure if these "would hold a candle" to mine, but "they did". I did taste a different seasoning on the coated batter(I think a splash of nutmeg", but is still was good.I use salt/pepper/garlic and onion powder on mine. The nutmeg gave it a "slight sweeter taste. But again, VERY GOOD! There are about 5 sticks per package, and they are "hearty" in size. Oh, tried Dill pickle soup! AWESOME! I really can't say that anything was "not top standard. Very fair pricing too! read more

There is a lot of goodness packed in to this little store. Obviously not as much variety as you'll find in Hamtramck or even the Polish Market in Troy, but it has the essentials and it's nice to have so close to home. Fair prices too. read more

My cousin discovered this place and purchased pierogi for our traditional Christmas Eve dinner. I hate to say this since I live only about 4 miles away from Hamtramck....but their peirogi are much, much better than those at Dudek's or at Szrodek's. They have much more delicious filling and less gooey dough. This is especially tru of Szrodek's where there pierogi have gotten heavier and heavier on the dough with less and less filling. I haven't been here yet myself, but I plan to get there soon. Szrodek's still has great kielbasa and lots of other good polish items though. read more
