After driving past this place for a number of years, I finally decided to go in and check it out. It's located in a plaza with independent parking. When I went in there, it was about 3 o'clock in the afternoon on a Friday. It was rather dark in there, and most of things were sold out. And then the other section of the store it was just kind of empty. The atmosphere is kind of dark seems kind of dusty. Since I had hurts my positive things I want at least try something since I made this stop. I tried their chocolate cookie, which was $8.99 a pound so my cookie was about three dollars. It was OK. I'm not sure I would come back just for the cookie next time but I guess I'm glad just to try out the local place. read more

I ordered a cake and 3 dozen cookies in person at the bakery. The young lady at the counter had trouble writing down the order but she read it back to me correctly. I was uneasy, leaving without paying a deposit or getting a receipt with the order but she assured me that's all they needed so I left. I called the morning of the order pickup and found out they had the wrong pickup date written on my order. A date I'm certain wasn't written on the order form since I watched what was being written while she took my order. After several apologies and an offer for a discounted in-stock cake (wrong flavors and sizes) and an offer to pick up whatever cookies they had in stock, I ran around town and found 2 cakes and cupcakes for the party. I called back to tell them I was all set on the cakes and since I ran out of time, I wanted to know if I could pick up the complimentary cookies the next day. Long story short, after being told they couldn't just hold the cookies for me because they would get hard (the day I was supposed to pick them up), so they sold them but told me I could come the next day and pick up fresh cookies. I picked up what looked like about 20 cookies and dropped off a majority at my friend's house who has 3 kids and kept about 5 for myself. Mine were stale. I called my friend and told him about the stale cookies and he said they noticed a few of theirs were stale too. The next day, I tried another, hoping it was a fresh one. Wouldn't you know it, there was a hair embedded into the cookie. See photo. I am so done with this place. Kroger bakery had excellent cake and cupcakes and the bakery employee was so wonderfully pleasant, I'm sorry I tried giving this place my business. I found another red velvet cake at Colasanti's. I had to make 2 last minute stops the day of the party to make up for their screw up. I wasted several hours calling and making my stops. I was sooooo mad. But I was willing to overcome the mistake until I was given crappy stale cookies and one that had a hair in it. I was really trying to support a small biz but they failed me 3 times on one order! I stopped in here one day when I was craving something sweet. I was really surprised that they had more items than just bakery. Almost felt like a little bit of a deli too. I would like to say that I took pictures of the cookies before I ate them but I didn't. They were that good that my hubby and I ate them right away. We bought a chocolate chip cookie and a peanut butter cookie that had dallop of chocolate on top of it. Been around Novi forever! Everything we've had from here has been delicious. Stuffed peppers, chicken explosion, corned beef egg rolls. You have to try their sandwiches as well, just fabulous. Maria is so outgoing and remembers her repeat customers by name. Their cookies are so good, whether giant chocolate chunk, or frosted themed cookies along with their cakes are worth it. Wow what a hidden gem. This bakery is located in a strip mall and has so much more to offer than just pastries. They had Italian groceries, cookies, breads, salads, prepared meals and more. Staff was so incredibly friendly and helpful. I could've spent a lot of time in this small shop, but we were only after some sweets. My mom and I both got various cookies which are sold by the pound. Called back and was told that that is the only frosting they use...the website says otherwise and if you only offer that selective type of frosting you should clearly state that when someone is ordering a cake and asks for buttercream. First time buying pastys here. They're a bit different than the usual northern Michigan pastys, but they were good. Much more beef. Much less of the staples.They are also quite large, as was the price per pasty. We cut it in half and it was plenty. Pastys are apparently not always available here. This was my first time visiting this bakery. They need to have a number system like other delis because it is total chaos when customers keep walking in and no one knows who is next. Also, all items in the cases should be clearly labeled with item name and prices. They have so many signs all over it's hard to read everything. Because it was so busy, I didn't want to keep asking what the items were in each case so I just didn't get the items I didn't know. The prices were reasonable. The baked goods were delicious! I got a cinnamon roll, a chocolate macadamia cookie, a peanut butter cookie, baklava roll, coconut layer bar, frosted sugar cookie, an apple turnover, 7 sugar cookies, and a pizza roll for about $25. One of the staff members was rude when another customer kept asking questions and I felt bad since I had the same questions being a first time customer. The customer also questioned what she was being charged and she was being overcharged for another item which she didn't order. So pay attention as you are getting ready to pay. I have been going here for years. I continuously find myself there whenever there is ANY event that needs a sweet. I had Maria's cookies for my sweet sixteen, my graduation party, and today. At no time have they ever disappointed me or anyone attending. Not only is the product good, but the service is too. Every signal time I come in there is a smiling face and great costumer service. Whether it's from the employees or from Maria herself. I know this is a random review, but as I'm laying in bed about to go to sleep, I just really enjoy Marias cookies and I wish I had another one! First off, clearly, I have nothing but great things to say about Maria's. Ive been going to this bakery for years for her cookies. My obsession for her cookies has slowly evolved into an obsession for different daily assortment of muffins, cakes, pies, cream filled cupcakes, and breads (all sorts of sweet and regular for you lame folks! :) ), I have never had a thing at Maria's I didnt enjoy! Im sure this comes off as over enthusiastic however I am deeply passionate about this place. Anytime I need to say thank you, I head to Maria's and pick up a box of her hand decorated frosted sugar cookies. They are so soft and the frosting so wonderful and sweet! Not to mention always adorable and holiday themed. People DIE for these cookies. I have yet to have a person who I gifted these to NOT ask me when I was bringing more. Personally, her chocolate chip and sugar frosted big cookies are my favorite (cookies are sold by the pound). All the cookies are the same consistency ; super soft, super rich and super yummy!!! They are extremely decadent and FULL of chocolate chunks, raisins, cranberries, oatmeal, M&M's or whatever the cookie is. The sugar cookie is topped with rich buttercream vanilla icing and normally topped with sprinkles or colored sugar. Again it is to DIE FOR. ( im posting a few pics of them ) Do I even have to start on her cakes? I have had Maria's bake me multiple cakes for birthdays and celebrations (I LOVE buttercream frosting). There is always something to offer you in the fridge next to the counter from Lemon bars, cheesecake, carrot cake, bumpy cake, whipped icing cakes, you name it they can make it for you or they have it on hand. CUPCAKES!!!!!!! (they are enormous and priced so well esp for the size! ) Always a nice selection of an array of flavors, Snickers, Oreo, Vanilla, Chocolate, Coffee, filled with yummy treats and topped with a huge mountain of my favorite...ICING! Ive also sampled the 'ready to go food'; pocket pot pies, the salads, the homemade pastas , pasta salad, fruit cups and meatballs...again , AMAZING!!! You can order your own sandwich on any kind of bread you like and they offer the best deli meats around. They cut it right in front of you and give you a large serving of meat ..and a pickle on the side just to be nice. Every time Im in there I see multiple people ordering the take home pizza or lasagna so im assuming its amazing, I regret to inform you I dont eat cheese! LOL Im probably forgetting a million other things that I love about Maria's but im afraid Ill make this too long. Wow! This place has been around for 40 years and for a good reason. They use only fresh ingredients and food items to go are made from scratch AND most from old world family recipes! Why go to a fast food place when you can order a premium sub or their fantastic pepperoni and cheese rolls (baked into a mini loaf of homemade bakery bread) hot and ready with Curbside Pick Up if you prefer. You've never had a better pizza than getting it from an Italian bakery like Maria's! I save money and time picking up dinner here by not having to shop for all the ingredients and prepare it when they do it for me! I just run in and grab a pound or so of bucatini and some homemade meatballs with fresh baked bakery bread or maybe another day I get kielbasa and sauerkraut. We like to impress guests with their dried pasta choices because the shapes are unique many found only in specialty stores. They carry top of the line jarred sauce if you prefer like Rao's to add to the pasta. Some prices are slightly higher but you get what you pay for - taste and convenience and freshness. This place is a small run family business which I'm thankful still existed after Covid. Maria's can best be defined as (hot) food to go with specialty Italian grocery store items with homemade desserts with fresh cut deli meats and lots of salads from orzo to Ceasar. Its also a take and bake pizzeria (and they will bake in store if asked). But the biggest hidden gem is the food they make that most people may not know about. After my first visit, I could not stop coming! Their sugar cookies are amazing and I had the German chocolate cupcake and it was one of the best chocolate cakes I have ever had. Holy cannoli! Maria's is top notch! This is one of those places I don't think I would have ever heard of if it weren't for Yelp. Maria's is difficult to find, and impossible to see if you are just driving by. When I first walked in, I wasn't too impressed. There is a lot of stuff crammed into a small shop, but it turns out its some pretty delicious stuff. I went in wanting a sandwich for lunch and came out with a "U-Bake" pizza and two cannolis, that were quite honestly the best I have ever had. The employees were quick and polite, and the food was outstanding.
