Our dog, Daisy, is very attached to us and hates when we leave, but we return to a happy, spoiled dog every single time. We use the dog walking, in-home visits, and pawjama party (overnight) services and have been completely happy with the communication (frequent messages/photos), timeliness, and friendliness. Their extensive training and expertise shows through their depth of compassion and care. On one occasion, due to circumstances out of our control, we had a major change to our arrival date/time. Michele was flexible and pleasant, allowing us to make the necessary changes to return home safely. She brought calm to a very stressful situation. I have always been very choosy about who I leave Daisy with. I prefer professionals who are trained for medical emergencies, encountering a hostile animal, taking respectful care of your home, etc. Never once have I been concerned about using Maine Sitters. When I am away, I do not worry or stress about Daisy or our home. I know they are in good hands with people I trust and that is a gift I do not take lightly. So, rather than shacking up with the next available dude who might make a decent dad to my 65 pound pit bull, I opted to explore the dog walker option. So much cheaper. And the interview process is not nearly as tedious. I was referred to Mindy by my neighbors who have two very dog-aggressive pups. And while Gus is not dog aggressive, per se, he doesn't like every dog he meets, so it takes a diligent and knowledgeable walker to ensure his and everyone else's safety. Mindy seemed to be right up our alley. Mindy stopped by the house and met Gus. He loved her. Immediately. Kisses and jumping and that lean in dogs do when they are feeling particularly affectionate. She asked all the right questions and, when I had questions, she had all the right answers. She leaves little notes telling me about their walk and whether his business was appropriately done. Unfortunately Gus can be a total pain in the ass and his report card will sometimes read "Gus was a little stubborn today." Which means he probably refused to walk and threw a temper tantrum with his leash. Mindy puts up with a lot of bullshit. But she never complains and I love knowing he's in such good hands. And I feel a lot less guilty when I have to stay at work late knowing that Gus has had an awesome walk that afternoon. My beloved neighbor Jaime, a retired Puerto Rican Vietnam vet who spends most of his summer afternoons sitting on his porch, keeping an eye on the neighborhood, told me this: "That dog walker lady you got is a good one. The price for a 30-min. walk has only gone up one dollar in three years; it's currently $16, which is cheaper than anywhere else for that amount of time. They accept PayPal for payment, which is super convenient since who has checks anymore? Finances aside, what I really appreciate about them is their flexibility. Sometimes, our walking days would change each week, and all they asked is that we email on Sunday night to say which days we needed walks. Or we'd go several months without needing walks at all. All of that was fine with them, and they couldn't have been more accommodating. Oh, and my dog completely adores Mindy! We were able to make all the arrangements online. The day I dropped him off we were greeted by a staff member named Joy. She is aptly named. She was a delightful woman, showing me the facility, and where my dog would be staying. She showed me where the cameras are so that the owner can look in the evening before she goes to bed to make sure all the dogs are OK. Each dog has his individual space where he spends the night. There is a group inside play area as well as several different fenced in areas outside where dogs can play separately or together. There is a man who lives on the property who is also available in case of emergency and works part time at the facility. When I came to pick my dog up the next day, he was happy and healthy! They said there were no issues, and we were all very happy with the experience.

My adoption process a couple months ago went very well. I arrived without any pets, and left with…read moretwo kitties! I walked in without an appointment, a couple hours after opening. There were some people there, either in the main waiting room or walking through the separate pet areas... wasn't too busy. Was greeted by staff behind the counter and I told them I wanted to look at some cats. They have you fill out some paperwork, mainly about what you're looking for and what your home environment is like (senior cat, kittens, other pets at home, kids at home, etc) to help them in finding an appropriate cat for you. You wait for a bit so they can find a staff member to walk through the cattels with you. You get to meet them, and pick some up in some instances. I deliberated because I intended to get a senior cat, but many of them had behavioral or extra medical problems. I ended up getting a disgustingly cute and impossibly smol brother and sister, and they've been wonderful. It may not be the cheapest, depending on which pet you want to take home, but obviously that cost goes into the program and really, can you put a price on a new family member?
