The day before, we got a phone call asking if we'd like to "upgrade" to a cabin, because the people staying in the room we reserved, wanted to stay an extra night. We had the option to say no, but one of the selling points to "upgrading" was the porch overlooking the nearly 3acres, so we said yes. The owner/host was very friendly and even left us a complimentary wine stating ticket, but we weren't pleased with the actual cabin. While we could have sat on the porch, the scenery wasn't really anything and if the RV sites would have been rented, we would have been looking at those. Also, the room had lots of bugs. I get we are in the hill country, but the seal at the top of the door was messed up, which allowed more bugs in. Our bed had a few on it, when we removed the covers (posted in the pictures) and there were dead bugs in the bathroom. Also, the room didn't stay cool enough at night and the TV was so small, it was hard to see and hear, even if you turned up the volume. Overall, I felt the cabin wasn't very clean and the shower curtain was also a huge icky point. For sanitary reasons, I'd suggest upgrading to a glass shower door.

They have a lot of different options for stays, too - rooms, cabins, even RV spots! We stayed in a regular guest room, and my parents brought their RV. It made for the perfect weekend. The room was comfortable and super clean. They went out of their way to include unique retro touches, and they went above and beyond. If there was a complaint, it would be that the walls are a touch thin, but we turned on fans to drown that out. The grounds are well-maintained, and there are multiple lovely meeting spots, including a renovated barn and a rooftop deck overlooking 290. It is a cozy, comfortable place, and I am already looking forward to going back!

Our cottage, the Tritch, had two separate bedrooms, and I appreciated the privacy and spaciousness it offered. The cottage came fully stocked with everything to cook on site, but the location is close enough to both Johnson City downtown and Hye, if you prefer to dine out, shop, or hit the wineries. The owners went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. They really thought of all of the little details, including providing fresh chicken eggs(!!), popcorn, ice cream, oatmeal, granola bars, and coffee and tea. There was a communal fire pit, which we enjoyed using at night, and an enclosed puppy park area for pet owners. They also have a beautiful event venue near the front of the property, if you are looking to celebrate something with our without on site lodging. There was an outdoor sitting area just outside of our cottage, where I was able to enjoy my morning beverage in nature. Last but not least, they included free wine tasting certificates in the cottage as an added bonus, score! The feel at Wrenwood Ranch is warm and welcoming, but the separate cottages give you as much privacy as you want. We went into Johnson City and Hye a few times over the course of the weekend, and we were never bored. Wrenwood Ranch is a hidden gem and a great value when you consider all of the extras they provide. We hope to come back and to send our friends your way!

Kay is very friendly, and made check-in quite easy, although a bit time consuming. You have to put a CC number in to reserve a cabin but they don't actually use it to pay for your room. They ask you to mail a check or pay in exact cash if it is less than 5 days. This didn't bother us, but it is kind of strange. Our cabin was large, relatively clean, and had some cute touches (including about 39 no smoking signs!). They stocked the fridge with fresh fruit, juice, milk, cereal, and some treats. Coffee and tea was provided as well. The best part though is the location. We felt like we were on our own private ranch. Cows were having staring contests with us, we spotted some deer and jackrabbits, and there was NO one around. At night, the stars were endless! We laid in our front and watched the Milky Way and incredible night sky. I wish we never left!!! The Country Cabin would be perfect for a family of 4, but was also great for just one couple. There's a grill out front and two ponds for fishing we sadly never made it to. The larger cabin is Right behind this one and luckily for us, it was empty. Would be fun to rent them both out some time. As a side note - the water does smell and is VERY sulphuric. If this bothers you, you probably won't enjoy your stay here. The water is also very hard, to the pint where it is challenging to feel clean after a shower, haha. This is no fault of their own though. Maybe that's why people call this place "rustic."
