I visited this vet because my gf and her family have taken their pets here for years. I have a beagle mix with severe allergies and, after many treatments, have had to break down and get her an allergy shot. Also, our other dog, was slammed into our front door by maintenance earlier in the week so we needed to just have him looked at as well. Upon entering, a lovely man with a Trump 2020 mask greeted me. When I made a statement about his, sarcasm, beautiful mask the receptionist-think her name is judy and also think she is dr. Nelson's mother, gave me a dirty look. Shocker, you all must be Trumpers the further North I go. Already wanted to leave but wanted to respect them due to their relationship with my gfs parents. As we are waiting to check in at the counter, another dog comes in who is barking and this of course makes our dogs bark. Such is life at the vet, no big deal, Judy scoots us both into the first room. And this is the next problem. THIS ROOM IS DISGUSTING! Drool, hair and dirt are all over the floor. Now, she rushed us in here so at first I wasnt too upset. Then I realized both our dogs records were already in here so this room was never going to be cleaned. Once Dr, Nelson walks in, he talks directly to my gf, doesn't introduce himself at all. My gf introduced us. He looks at our Yorkie whose leg was caught in the door for-I timed it-four minutes. Tells us he is walking fine, checked his breathing with a stethoscope, and done. Remember this for later. Then, still hasn't introduced himself, he asks for Bailey, my beagle mix with allergies. I pick her up and put her on the table, still no introduction, and he begins to tell me about the allergy shot. This entire interaction, from start on table until ending with her getting the shot, takes 15 minutes. Mind you-I am writing this review almost a week later and nothing has changed for my dogs allergies. So, we go to check out...this 30 minute excursion has costs us 129$! He looked at my first dog for three minutes and did no kind of exam he just had him walk around! My gf has been coming here with her family for years. This is the first time she came in with her SAME SEX PARTNER and how funny we got treated this way. We will NEVER be back. Homophobic, trump loving, money gouging jerks. read more

I had to go here in an emergency situation. They were very accommodating and got me in when my regular vet HAD NO TIME.. Alas.. I went. From the beginning, i felt that the technician was not listening to anything I was saying. I feel that the Doctor could have spent more time listening to me as well. I expressed exactly what I felt my dog needed. Against my gut feeling the doctor recommended pain medication and sent me home. If we had done blood work and possibly a radiograph my suspicions would have been confirmed and I would have been saved from the hell that ensued the next day with her. She had several spinal tumors as well as a brain tumor as I suspected. I REQUESTED LABWORK!! Our family lost her within 24 hours, we were all devastated. She was urinating blood which I was told there was no blood upon urinalysis. I know there was blood in it.. it was so dark.. I have been a veterinary technician for 16 years and i am currently a vet student.. I know whats up!! The gabapentin that was given only made her condition worse, she was completely sedated and never really recovered. Her body went into status epilepticus and we only had a few moments where she was coherent enough to know who we were so that we could say goodbye, as we helped her cross over. Sheer hell for my family and I. Her underlying kidney disease was mentioned in the appointment. Why wasn't anything I said listened to? I am completely dissatisfied and will never return. In fact i think they should send me a refund for my visit and service rendered. What ensued cost me over $2000 to try to save her and then another $900 for euthanasia and cremation services. When I called to inform their office of her death, it was no big deal... In all my years in veterinary, EVERY SINGLE client received a sympathy card. Something to let them know that you CARE ABOUT THE LOSS OF THEIR PET!! Back pain.. yeah she had back pain alright.. good job Doctor Nelson. I will be awaiting my apology and a refund. Real professional. Screw your stickers. Maybe you shouldn't book appointments at 5:00 PM and rush through your exams......your client paid the ultimate price. read more

I have been to several vet hospitals in the area due to the kitties I foster. After interacting with all of them, I decided to switch my own animals to Helping Paws permanently. My fur babies aren't treated like just another cat or dog, each member of staff always greets me with a smile and courtesy, and it is always super clean. Dr Nelson and his family are so generous and willing to go above and beyond with any animal, whether they are a foster or my own. I can't say enough good things about this place. I'm so glad there is a vet in the area where you don't have to worry about being rushed away because they have so many patients, even though they have their schedule booked. He answered my email promptly and assured me that he would be willing to work with us in treating our dog's ongoing condition. We are very pleased to have found such a caring, compassionate and competent vet. If you are looking for a vet who really cares about your pet and who will listen to your concerns and discuss treatment options, you will find that in Dr. Nelson. The facility itself is lovely and spotless and the fees are very reasonable. It is obvious that Dr. Nelson and his staff truly care for our dog and she is always happy to pay them her monthly visit. Dr. Nelson, his technical assistant Sara, and his wonderful receptionist, Judy create a caring environment for their patients! The location is so convenient to visit; The office is impeccably clean; and Cats and Dogs have separate entrances and waiting areas. Dr. Nelson saw my Collie for the first time. He got on the floor to examine her and she was completely relaxed. He had to give her her annual shots and she went over to him. He and Sara administered the shots with compassion. If this wasn't enough, Dr. Nelson told me he likes to allow time to answer any questions I might have. He wanted me to be comfortable and to understand everything. I appreciated the time he took with me. I cannot recommend him more highly. read more

My visit with Jagger was excellent, My Frenchie would cry every time when getting a shot at the previous veterinary clinic, this time the visit went uneventful as soon as we walked in Jagger was welcomed with treats and attention from Helping Paws Team. Jagger got a dish of cheese spread to distract him from the shot and it worked like a charm. Helping Paws Team was very professional caring and attentive, all my questions regarding Jagger's care were answered by Dr. Nelson and best course of care going forward was discussed. After nearly a year of dealing with a debilitating health issue with our senior dog, we decided on advice from a family member to seek a second opinion. We chose Helping Paws in Queensbury, NY, even though they were new to the area. It was the best decision we could have made. Dr. Nelson and his staff have been amazing. After a surgical procedure that we'd been told wouldn't benefit our dog, her while life has been improved. She's happier and more comfortable than she's been for quite some time. Oh,happy day!! I moved up here a little over a year ago. I went to my family's vet and had the most horrendous experience. It took me months before I could find a caring vet. Dr. Nelson and his staff are amazing. Office is clean. They actually have separate waiting areas for dogs and cats. I not only like my new vet, but more importantly, my dog loves him. An excellent veterinarian. Has taken care of my greyhounds as well as many other cats and dogs. He is so caring. Could call him anytime with questions and he was happy to help me out. When it came time to put several of my greyhounds to sleep because of bone cancer, which is very common with retired racers, he came to my home so they could peacefully pass in their own beds, surrounded by people who loved and petted and hugged them to the end and beyond. read more
