Terrible service. I had my wedding and engagement bands resized after I had my baby, from a size 6 to a 6 and a half, and the rings were still not fitting right. I was told by the manager to give it a few weeks to get use to. So instead, I went to Helzburg in Boilingbrook and it turns out the engagement band was sized to a 6 and 3/4 and the wedding band was sized to a 7 and a half. Both of the rings were supposed to be sized to a 6 and a half. Absolutely none of this was mentioned to me at the Orland Park location about the sizing mistake, and the staff was completely rude when I kept insisting it was the wrong size. When it turned out it was their error. Never go to this location. read more

I'm giving them two stars because I've purchased from them before and their sales associates were nice. However, went in to purchase gemstone jewelry that I'd seen online (Christmas gift) and they didn't have any in stock! The associates told me that I could order from them online and then pick it up (IF I put a deposit down) - well, of course I could! However, I like to see jewelry in person when I am buying it, which is why I didn't place an order when I was looking online. I was very disappointed! Very limited selection. read more

I would have given Helzberg Diamonds 5 stars about 5 years ago. In the past few years, I noticed that their selection has made a turn for the gaudy, when in the past there at least seemed to be more elegant choices. I would not recommend calling this store. The employees come off as being extremely rude and somewhat antagonistic. Maybe they're all foreigners and haven't learned proper inflections of the English language. I don't know. On a more serious note, Helzberg employee Marilyn was initially very hostile; it took a few minutes into the call for her to have an approachable tone, almost like I was gradually untwisting a broken, painfully flailing arm. I assume that she was having a bad day. Then, fittingly, the Helzberg Diamonds computer system seemed to engage in an act of self-immolation so that Marilyn couldn't look up any information about a previous purchase. Computers these days. Anyhow, the reason why I contacted Helzburg Diamonds went something like this: lamblike and curious, I explained my situation and inquired about a piece of jewelery -- a ring -- that was previously returned to the Orland location for repair. It was originally an exchange for another ring that I purchased for my girlfriend. (I didn't realize it at the time, but I picked a ring that didn't match her style at all. Hey, it looked okay in the store. AND I wanted to do something different. I still feel like a jerk for buying it.) So, this ring that was acquired in an exchange looked great. (Remember that I am using that word: "exchange.") My girlfriend wore it for a period of time, and then, for whatever reason, the ring wouldn't hold one or more of the stones. A prong or something of the sort fell off of it. As a result, we had to return it to the store to be fixed. I don't remember if she was given a new ring or if it was repaired. I am almost positive that it was a new ring. In any case, when the problem was solved, we took another trip to the store to pick it up. She wore the ring for a month or more, and as luck would have it, the ring broke again. We brought it back to the store, and that's where it has remained (as far as I know) because this particular ring had a particular problem that wasn't going away. The result of all this was that it was becoming a problem, and it was taking up too much time to keep going back and forth for some jewelery. What I did, then, was attempt to find out if the defective ring could be exchanged for something else. Why bother with fixing something clearly was causing an issue? The amount of money I was spending in gas driving back and forth probably wound up costing at least 1/4 of the cost of the damn thing. After speaking with an employee (who "has NOT BEEN WITH HELZBERG" in over a year!" per the current store manager) at some point in the past, said employee left me a voicemail letting me know that she obtained approval from the manager to exchange the ring. I returned her call, and I told her that I would need to wait because the my girlfriend would not be available (for various legitimate reasons) to pick out something new for an extended period of time. After that, I left it alone until recently. Back to the present: I spoke to the current store manager (who informed me about that employee in the previous paragraph), and I asked her if it would be possible to now accept the offer that they extended. I told her that I was able to locate the e-mail that verified that an authorization existed, and I was just curious about whether or not I could finally rectify this situation with everyone involved. A/the manager (who works during the late evening) snapped at me and said that bit I noted above. Then, she erupted, "That offer wasn't an open-ended offer!" She followed up with some more that I can't remember verbatim, but it essentially was something along the lines of "That was then! This is now! We'll just fix your ring again!" Pertaining to the latter, as I previous noted, my girlfriend and I were through with having the ring fixed. Fixing the ring was the continuation of running a fool's errand, a snipe hunt, a wild-goose chase! For whatever reason, fixing this ring was an insurmountable, hopeless task. Later, per the manager, "We'll have the old ring sent back." Realizing that I was going to be stuck in this labyrinth of conversation, I finally started to become very irritated. So, I said, "Well, I was put off with buying more jewelery for a long time. I don't want to deal with the ring anymore." I ended the call with some kind of variation of "just forget about it." SUMMARY: Helzberg Diamonds has rude employees and managers who don't have customer-friendly phone voices. A defective ring was purchased from the store, and they authorized an exchange. Later, they rescinded their offer because their offers aren't "open-ended." I do not plan to ever bring my business to Helzberg again. I plan on telling people I know to avoid the store because of their selection and service. read more
