I want to start with the food was good, i got huevos rancheros and husband a smothered breakfast burrito. Only complaint there was my hash browns were cold. In other news, THE SERVICE was a double "what the f***" My husband was already done with his drink by the time the food came out, our young server ignored it more time passed, pushed the empty cup more towards the edge so it was more noticeable and a older lady WATCHED me push the cup and proceeded to talk to our server and not tell him anything or refill the cup... .. not checked on once... husband got fed up and filled it himself and the older lady proceeded to say she would do it, BUT YOU DIDNT? He was trying to explain that to her nicely and she wasn't hearing it and kept ignoring and worrying more about screws because they were fixing something? My husband finished his whole meal with nothing to drink before he refilled it himself. Only got one apology from our young gentleman server minutes later. Nothing from the lady. OH and there was only us and one other table , so it's not like yall were that busy. Service went way down from previous owners. read more

Hen house is open 7 days a week, which is pretty unusual. Their chicken is wonderful!! Breakfast is also very good.

Food was decent. Service was horrible! Had to get up and get our own coffee refills. Hash browns were cooked good, but cold. Had to go seek out syrup for my pancake, which I had to ask for since it wasn't brought out with the rest of my food. Noticed a lot of just visiting amongst employees. Only saw one waitress looking busy. Never got out ticket, then had to wait until the host finished bs-ing with a couple (possibly the bosses) before we could pay. BF had a three piece chicken dinner. I had a taco salad. The restaurant is under new ownership, and I think this is what accounts for the deterioration in the meal that we had today. The chicken was not seasoned, cole slaw was incredibly bland, they brought out a plate of fries (15 fries total) were not seasoned and they were greasy. The roll that came with the meal was stale. My taco salad beautiful in appearance only. It has no seasoning on it whatsoever. I had the beef taco salad and it was very obvious they had made an extra hamburger to go out and merely pulled it apart to add to the salad. Finally, I don't know why restaurants keep insisting I tip on the total amount of the bill rather than the total prior to adding tax. The customer is not supposed to tip on tax. The wait staff were pleasant enough and attentive but that could t make up for the disaster of a meal. We won't return. read more

I cannot give a single aspect of this experience more than one star. 1) the atmosphere felt like an old, dirty version of tv show grandma's kitchen. Overall feeling was quite uncomfortable. 2) the prices are insanely high. I ate the same meal at twice the qual and half the price in SF multiple times. 3) If you want to pay top dollar for store bought frozen goods then this place is for you. my advice, skip this place and go to your local grocery store's frozen food section. We arrived early in the morning in Pueblo and were searching high and low for a breakfast place that actually opened before 8 or 9 am. We were in luck and found the Hen House Cafe. The Good: Not many people were here when we arrived, and we had the choice of where to be seated. Our waitress was a very nice lady and made sure that we had everything we needed throughout our entire dining experience. I decided on the Farmer's Breakfast Sandwich with hash browns, which was well put together and presented well. It tasted great as well. My wife chose the small smothered burrito. Ummm small is a funny description of this large and more then plentiful portion of a burrito. She was able to finish a little over half and enjoyed every mouthwatering bite of her breakfast creation. The Bad: This place is just a little off the beaten path. This creates a challenge for the owner to grow his customer base and get new people to try out this great little Cafe. The Ugly Truth: Jump in your car, grab the family and meet up here for breakfast sometime! Locally owned, not a chain, staff that cares about the happiness of their customers, and let's not forget amazing food for a good price! Cute little quaint place off the beaten path. Great customer service and very welcoming to out of towers. We wanted to find a non chain place to try after driving all night from Omaha. I has the small breakfast burrito that was smothered with green Chile which was AH-MAZING, the beans could have had a little more flavor though. My husband had farmer breakfast sandwich with extra crispy hashbrowns, which was good but could have had a little more to it and the hash Browns were perfectly crispy like we like. Our 1 year old twins had a pancake and a sausage patty and they gobbled the sausage down and mom ate most of the pancake which was perfectly fluffy and tasty. They have fairly new hours and now open at 6 am where most places around here don't open that early. If your ever in the area you should drive the extra few miles yo check this place out, it is truly a hidden gem.. read more

I think the food here is good. It's like home cooking. The green chile fries are very good and so is the chicken fried steak. Their steak special is very good, too. They are known for their fried chicken but, we haven't tried it yet. We hope to soon. read more

Today was my first visit to Hen House Cafe. This is a modest locals restaurant without bells and whistles. I was excited to see Heuvos Rancheros on the menu but my excitement quickly faded when I remembered I am in Colorado and everyone puts meat in their green chilie here. So I ordered a veggie omelette with added fresh jalapeño. But apparently they only have canned jalapeño so I nixed that. My omelette took a long time to come out of the kitchen. But it was pretty tasty. Greasy though! It was a solid country cooking style omelette. The service was ok. Everyone was very friendly. The server was just a bit slow to check in and refill coffee and such. The Hen House is not a place I would wake up and get all excited about going to. But I am sure I will visit again. read more

I ordered 2 double orders of fries to go. I didnt even get 1 full box. Usually when I order fries as a SIDE, the box comes full full full and that's just 1 SIDE order that comes with the meal. This time several people wanted fries and a side of green chilli as their MEAL. So I ordered 2 double orders. So there would be plenty of fries. I didn't even get what a regular side order is. So I specifically told the lady when I was checking out that didn't seem like 2 double orders of fries. I asked her to take them back and show the cooks. She told me it is. So needless to say I didn't get the fries I ordered. And the fries were for several people so, I guess everyone else has to do without fries. On top of all that they said the order would be ready in 20 to 25 minutes. I gave them 30min cause it's never ready on time. And I still had to wait 15 more minutes. What a disappointment this place turned out to be. I've been meaning to eat here for a few years, but its out of the way from Pueblo. I was surprised at the small selection of breakfast food combos, so I had to order from the side menu. The food is bland and served on melamine plates, so you have to brace your plate while eating so it doesn't slide all over. Its a dirty place, dusty wall hangings, sticky floor under the table. Dirty glasses, and the exit door is filthy! I didn't even want to touch it on my way out. There is an entrance door and you have to exit from a totally different door, so its confusing and weird. I've been all over the world and have never seen anything like it. There is also a bar, which is ok, I was just surprised a cafe had a bar. read more

As sides I ordered cold slaw, mashed potatoes w/brown gravy and potato salad. The cold slaw was fresh and well seasoned as was the potato salad. Real mashed potatoes. This was our first time going since it changed hands. I was wonderfully surprised at the refreshed look, and new spot for the front door. Olivia was our waitress, who provided friendly and excellent service. The omelette was scrumptious, and the syrup was served warm with my pancake. I can't rate the food because we keft before we could try it. The reason why is because one of the waitresses was very rude to us from the get go. I have a legitimate service dog. Very well trained and behaved. He is a small dog. The minute the hostess sat us down the waitress seemed to be in attack mode. She told me the owner didn't allow support animals. I said he is a service dog. He is a medical alert dog. He is very much needed should a medical situation arise as he alerts to any situation that I may not be aware of prior to it happening. When I told her that she got visibly angry rolling her eyes. Even my friend whom she was standing behind felt the negative energy. We were so uncomfortable that we decided to just leave. These people need to be educated on service animals. I will be filing a complaint with the ADA. I would not give any stars if it would allow, but it won't post without any. Have you ever been out to eat and just wanted to go in the kitchen and show the chef how it's done, knowing you could definitely teach them a thing or two? Well this is such an occasion. I hate to say that even under new management this place needs a overhaul. Billies why this place is getting one star is they managed to keep the coffee semi warm and our waitress was nice. My husband ordered the French toast. It was dry stale, small portion, and cold. I'm not sure how you can make French toast and have it be dry, but they achieved it, and it appeared to be made of it the cheapest bread possible. The supposed homemade corn beef hash barely had any pieces of corn beef in it, and the potatoes or undercooked by quite a bit. Hashbrowns should be crunchy, brown or nice and soft like the inside of a french fry. These were crunchy, hard, white potatoes, lukewarm at best. Breakfast is one of those easy meals that you really cannot mess up. If you have a good ingredients and serve it hot and I'm not sure how this place has four stars maybe we're eating at a different restaurant than what is being reviewed almost immediately after eating I had to go to the bathroom, I only ate a quarter of what was on my plate most restaurants this with Spark curiosity and have somebody asking was your food OK ?? BY the time I got home I was so nauseous I was back in the bathroom. DEFINITELY won't be back. read more
