Been coming here since I moved to Athens 10 years ago and it's my favorite coffee shop in town. I like the chill atmosphere and it's a good place to read and do work even if a band is playing. The lattes are perfection and the milk is always texturized. Really nice employees too. read more

Stopped in to try the Nitro cold brew since it's the only place in town serving it - wasn't amazing just yet, they still need to find the right coffee brew and coffee to nitrogen ratio for the taste & texture. I'll be back soon to try it again. So glad these guys are serving it. read more

I love Hendershot's! The west side of Athens (out on Oglethorpe Ave near the loop) is finally getting some cool restaurants and places to go: there's Transmet, Sr. Sol, and now Hendershot's Coffee. The cafe has coffee all day as well as wine and beer in the evenings. There are early (for Athens, at least) musical acts, open mic nights, and frequent fundraisers for partner businesses. Hendershots is a very cool spot. I stopped off before a board meeting in Athens. The space is large, and there are bright, big windows if you want 'em, and dark, cool corners if you'd prefer that. Not to mention a large outdoor seating area. And there is space for the odd band (or two) to do their thing. This place is huge! (And laptop friendly, with plenty of easily accessible power.) Yet still totally intimate. Personable. I didn't have to wait at all to be served or to find a spot to sit. Staff is fast and very friendly. Coffee drinks are hand-made in a jiffy. And they have Sioux City root beer! Bonus! read more

One of my favorite places to go to and work. If I go in the morning/early afternoon I can enjoy a nice cup of coffee, if I need to work during the later afternoon/evening hours they have adult beverages available. They also have musicians come in regularly, which is nice to experience some local talent. I haven't had a negative experience with the staff, they have always been helpful and kind. The coffee leaves a little to be desired, but decent enough - the atmosphere really makes up for it. read more

We had the Nutella latte (made with real Nutella!) and the mocha with caramel latte. Both were delicious and the mocha arrived with a mound of whipped cream and syrup (how can you say no to that?). I prefer small coffee shops to chains but good ones are hard to find. This one delivers! Good ambience for morning/early day. Tables were a little close together but that may only because the group sitting next to us was obnoxiously loud. Good wifi (free) and comfy chairs for relaxing. Also they have several outlets for charging laptop, phone, etc. I have not been at night so can't compare how atmosphere changes nor did we try any food. read more

Hendershots has quickly became one of my favorite spots. Though not a huge fan of their coffee, just yet, I have been enjoying their teas. The venue itself is great to chill and get some studying, reading, what have you, or just hang out and chat with friends. The only downside is there are only a few spots by the huge windows. In the afternoon it's usually pretty dim inside. The outdoor sitting wouldn't be too bad either. They also have a stage, plus open mic events, but I've never been. Seems fun though. I'm gonna have to branch out on their menu, since the last time I visited they ran out of expresso early. For non-dairy alternatives they have soy and, I think, almond milk. They also have a mild selection of teas that they brew as requested with simple syrup to add or not add as needed. Drinks and noms aside, I mostly love this place for the atmosphere. read more

I finally checked out their new location on Prince Ave. It's a lot more spacious than their last. Plenty of tables and seating areas. I had a cubano latte which the barista told me was essentially just a latte mixed with raw sugar. 10/10 would order it again. read more

If you're looking for an eclectic, trendy coffee shop, Hendershot's is the place to go. The ambiance is nice for working. It is not too loud and lots of place to sit down. The place is dimly lit with lots of different art work. There's coffee with better variety types than any Starbucks you'll ever go to. There is also tea and they also serve food and alcohol in the evenings. I had the chance to try the iced nutella latte and it did not disappoint. The second time I came, I had the angry pirate that tastes like a dirty chai with rum. This place also periodically has different events held at night. read more

Cool hang out place both during the day or night. They serve both coffee and beer/wine. Smaller venue and they typically have cheap or free events during the week, like Open mic night and stand up comedy. Parking is the only issue. I hear you can park at the church for free, but the parking lot designated for the bottleworks is slightly expensive... especially if you are intending to spend the entire evening there for one of the events. You'll spend around $5 for parking for 3 hours. read more

We stopped by on the way back from Greenville, SC because my wife wanted some coffee. I didn't want to take her to the same ol' place, so I looked this up while we were on 441 S and we stopped in. The parking in this area isn't very good, but it's not bad on a Sunday afternoon when school is out in Athens. It's right off of Prince Ave next to the Grit basically, so I thought it might be a quirky little place. I was immediately put off walking in the door, though. It's definitely a bar and a music venue, but it's also a bit overpriced in my opinion. $2.50 for an RC in a bottle? Around $5 for most drinks in there. People peddling goods by the door. I decided I personally did not want anything. It's probably a cool night joint and the drinks are probably okay, but I wasn't impressed. Something about the place was honestly unsettling to me. My wife ordered a double Macchiato and she added a few things to it and she said the drinks were pretty good, but she wasn't raving about it. I'll just take her word for it on that one. This is probably Athen's favorite coffee house of the locals from my experience. There are a few things that makes this coffee house stand out from the others in this town; 1. Location: It is located little bit outside of downtown for a little bit less of a hectic feel. There is also a large parking lot so you don't have to work the meters. Most importantly, it has a large outdoor patio, which is right next to some of Athens popular restaurant hot spots, like Seabear, The Grit, and Viva! Argentina. 2. Ambience: It just has that classic, independent coffee house feel. Low lighting, mismatched chairs, the couch in the corner, and the small stage up front to host live music and open mic nights. 3. Menu: I'm not a coffee drinker, so I always order iced tea. I would recommend having the staff under seep the tea, otherwise I have noticed it ends up bitter when they let it sit for the usual 3 minutes. My favorite is the jasmine green. There are also plenty of coffee choices, and beer as well. They also offer a small food menu of sandwiches and sides. Usually they have live acts on the weekends, open mic night on Mondays, and the occasional comedy night as well. Definitely a spot to check out. read more

I can't say how much I LOVE having a coffee shop so close to my house. It's awesome that I can just zip down Oglethorpe and be there in two minutes. I've yet to check out the live music, but I'm a fan of hanging out all afternoon with a coffee or a cider and working on papers. I foresee spending lots of time here when I actually get to my dissertation. Most of the booths have a nearby outlet, making electricity vampires (like me) happy. I also love being able to run a tab and switch between coffee, lattes, and beer or wine. Be sure to bring your own cup/mug for a discount on your coffee, too! read more

What a horrible experience. For ages I've noted that good musicians played here from time to time. So, I decided I'd try it and see the Solstice Sisters on the Winter Solstice. How cool does that sound? Bought a ticket online, had to pay to park. Couldn't go in the door nearest the parking lot, but instead was routed through some kind of stinky wood smoke. Arrived 20 minutes before the show, which was outrageously oversold. There were no seats; there was no place to stand; there was a line of more than 20 people waiting to get a drink at the bar. I stood in line for more than 10 minutes and it barely moved. At that point, particularly because I couldn't stand for 2 hours and because there was no place to stand even if I could, I requested a refund. Well, what do you know? No refunds. So I threw $$ and time out the window for a rather sucky solstice. Yuck! ADDENDUM: After submitting an e-mail complaint online where I had purchased my ticket, I recieved the response that I would receive a refund. Would rather have seen the show, but I certainly appreciate the response and the gesture. read more

I don't know why I haven't been to Hendershots until my third year of being in Athens, but I definitely plan on coming back more to study/hang. I came on an open mic night so they were busy and rather packed, all good things (#supportlocalartists). I ordered an Apocalypse Mocha with little to no background on it and it was reaallly good. It ended up being spicy--like a "mexican coffee." Definitely a good surprise and would order it again. I also got a turkey + cheddar sandwich--it was solid for a sandwich!! I love this place. I usually come here if I have group projects or if I just want a place to study off campus. The large coffee mugs are very large and defiantly worth the price. I would definitely recommend coming early in the morning on the weekends because it can get a bit crowded otherwise it's a great study spot. read more
