    Carrot cake and risotto!
    Christine H.

Super friendly staff! But service is a bit slow to me. I think that's just how it is over here though! No one is ever in a rush haha. Food: the vegetarian risotto! Very creamy with good feta cheese. The squash really made the dish though, it balanced everything out with its sweet taste. The arugula was a bit too much, but I just brushed it to the side. Dessert: CARROT CAKE. YUMMMM! Idk, I've just been craving carrot cake and it hit the spot.

*American reviewer* when all your dunediner buddies are vegetarian, you end up at a place with no meat. All good; this local institution does plant-based dining well, and deliciously. I didn't order the veggie haggis, but I was told it was quite lovely. I got the special of the day, which happened to be a chickpea and aubergine curry atop jasmine rice. It was marvelous. Service can take awhile, but this is due to the sheer volume of customers. Staff was very attentive and accommodating. Dimly lit with light music, and you have the makings of a romantic, vegetarian evening.

This was a a GREAT little veg cafe. Do take note, it's more of a cafe than a restaurant. There are a few tiny tables, but not much space to eat. It is a charming decor though nonetheless. The food, although previously prepared, was quite fresh and tasty. They sprinkle sone greens onto the plate for a little salad as well which is a nice touch to some of the heartier items. The choices were nice and diverse. I felt like a little spice and they had some Indian/Middle Eastern themed options. I also had some vegan haggis in a parcel which was fantastic! The people were very nice and helpful. I wished I lived in the area to come back again. One day when I move to Scotland I will be back!

A nice vegan/vegetarian restaurant in the heart of Edinburgh! They have a salad bar and restaurant, and around the corner a vegan portion of the restaurant. Some of the menu overlaps, but each has it's own menu as well. This location has lots of seating availability, and has a nice eclectic vibe as well. We had the cullen skink soup (made with tofu instead of fish) and vegetarian haggis which looked like spiced soya mince on a bed of mashed potatoes. The portions are quite filling as well. They also offer a variety of vegan desserts! A good place to visit if you're hankering for vegan meals!

Yummy and gourmet bean burger ! Cute retro under the stair Resturant . They have a bistro up stairs that I will try next time instead. Lots of room in the downstairs part for meeting big groups. I didn't like the cafeteria style ordering but they bring your hot food out to you so that's good. The food was really great! Gourmet veggie style dishes and beautifully presented! Food was well priced for the area and once again delicious !!!

This shop boasts to be one of the best at offering high quality health foods and vegetarian foods, but all this comes at a price that is perhaps overdone. That said, the specials aren't too bad value for money and this is a place that is good at providing quick food for vegetarians and vegans, which isn't a common trait amongst many shops around Edinburgh. If you are a vegetarian, vegan or even just a very health conscious person you are likely to find benefits to this place. However, as someone not in these categories I just don't get why this place costs so much.

Lovely vegan cafe. On one side is a cafe style restaurant, on the other, a salad bar/cafeteria style location. This time, we ordered the haggis plate and the sliders. The haggis cane with beautiful purple potato mash and gravy. The slider plate was enormous! Three sliders, chips, onion rings and salad. We ended our meal with a slice of chocolate nut cake and chocolate banana cake. All the food was fab! The only thing that was not up to par was the service. The hostess/waitress wasn't very welcoming and made one feel like if the questions about the food/menu/seating were stupid. Fortunately, the food was great !

    Dessert. Yum!!!

Always nice to find an all vegetarian restaurant in northern Europe! So many options! My partner and I both got the risotto and side salads. I thought the risotto was so so but my partner really loved it. It was quite moist and creamy. Side salads nothing special, but they have a lot to choose from which is nice. The star of the show was the fruite almond torte thing with fresh whipped creme that I had for dessert. Oh. My. God. So amazing. I would probably give it a 3 1/2 star if I could. The atmosphere is quite cute.

Hendersons is a veritable veggie institution in Edinburgh, so if you're non-meat inclined, or you're just in the mood for some super tasty food, then swing by Hendersons if you're around the new town. There is an extensive selection of vegetarian food available here, made with locally sourced, high quality ingredients, and you have a choice of eating in the basement restaurant, the bistro, or taking a quick bite away from the deli. The basement restaurant is probably my favourite part of Hendersons, with its canteen style array of amazing looking salads, specials, soups, and other enticing delights to try. The restaurant is open from breakfast time until the evening, where its laid back dining style and often live music always seems to attract quite a few people. The bistro part of Hendersons offers a relaxed, pleasant, and slightly more formal a la carte format in cheerful looking surroundings. A visit to the deli is a treat, with a range of yummy looking items, including the usual sandwiches, veggie pizzas, and frittata and falafel.

Hendersons is fantastic if you are vegetarian. I am not, so it ain't my thing. My Granny likes it here after she took my vegetarian aunty here when she was at Edinburgh uni, 30 years ago. So she often takes me and I can appreciate it is a great place for vegetarians with a huge selection of dishes. The service is top notch also. However. Why mess with Flapjacks? After the initial shock of my meatless lunch, my Granny filled my hand with change and sent me to buy a cake from the counter. I licked my lips and chose a nice thick Flapjack. I hurried back to my seat and took one bite and was confused. Where was the syrupy, chewy goodness I was expecting? It had been replaced by some rather tasteless sawdust. Clearly in Vegan/Vegetarian world nice sweet cakes are a no no. This gives me a case of the sads.

If someone had said to be that I would ever enjoy a purely vegetarian meal, I'd laughed in their face. Call me old-school, but if there's no meat in it, it's not a proper meal, right? Wrong. That was before I ate here. I popped in with a friend for lunch oe day, and as we were heading out for a big meal that evening, we decided to just get a handful of starters to share between us, rather than having a full-on lunch. The food was amazing, and it was also really good value into the bargain which, in my opinion, always makes it even tastier! We got a portion of their Baba Ghanoush, Humus, Tzatziki and Spicy Bean Paté with a load of breads to mop it up, and I can honestly say it was one of the tastiest lunches I've eaten in that price bracket in a long time.

Not a big fan of vegetarian but it is not bad here. Fresh and flavourful.

Even though we were here almost a year ago, (obviously still thinking about it) my husband and I LOVED it here. We had such an enjoyable and quiet morning together. My husband is not a vegetarian/vegan, but he loved the food (he got the pancakes) and I got the sweet potato shakshuka. We both got our coffees with their amazing hazelnut milk. It was all amazing! I also loved all the local health and community info located in the back. Thank you for a great trip and we hope to come back this year!

Probing why I was going a little, they got out of me I am of the Gordon Clan of Aberdeenshire, a Scotland of Old clan. One of my friends exclaimed, "Gordon!" He paused, looked me directly in the eyes and said, "You know we're rivals right?!" He is Nate James Lindsey. A member of the Lindsey Clan, one of the Gordon Clan's rival clans in Scotland of Old. Once we addressed our rival ancestries, he recommended to me The Baked Potato Shop in Edinburgh, the city I was flying into/out of for my first trip not only to Scotland, but to Europe as well. Well, I might as well go I thought, how bad can a rival clan recommendation be. The night I arrived in Edinburgh, 5 July 2019, I entered The Baked Potato Shop and was greeted by a friendly worker. After looking over the menu, I went with a baked potato loaded with vegan chilli and vegan Macsween haggis. After placing my order, paying, and getting the baked potato I thought the only thing missing from my first ever evening in Scotland was bagpipe music. No sooner had I thought that than I heard the sounds of bagpipes wafting across the cobbled lane out front of the Shop. Across the cobbled lane I went, lured by the wail of the bagpipes. After listening for a bit and providing a tip I returned to the guest house I was staying the night at. The food was delicious and filled my travel-tired belly. The haggis was the first I had of any kind, vegan or non-vegan, and it was an immediate favorite. Offset from my departure time zone by 8 hours, I went to sleep soon after eating. I woke up early the next morning ready to go. Turns out the baked potato and toppings cured my jet lag in less than 24 hours, quite remarkable. What a way to end my first day in Scotland, a recommendation from a member of a rival Scotland of Old clan yields tasty food. I will however note that I am also of Irish descent, so I am still not sure what to make of the recommendation in light of the Irish Potato Famine... Ahhh, Scotland of Old lives on.
