What once was isn't now…read more This park has a lot of potential. It was once equipped with park activities, but plans fell out. Now, it is mostly used for practicing and parties. People come here to practice baseball, softball, soccer or golf on the fields. The pavilion is shaped as a barn and mostly used as a picnic area for parties or lunches. It is a simple park. It has no laid in stone trails, monstrous jungle gym, or tents for shade. The closest thing to shade is once was and always considered as a tree! It is a park where grass grows on top of the pavement, whether it's green, yellow, or brown grass. Any parking space is considered a good spot---other than the where the signs are posted and if you sit a table under a tree you are prone to be a relatively attractive mate to the insects. It is peaceful and enjoyable park use you imaginative mind and make it your own fun out of it. There is a large pond behind the forestry, I heard from a local there are lots of fish caught in it. I enjoy this park, because I can come and relax without disturbance from loud noises.

I was introduced yesterday by my sibling. I told her that it reminded me of Arthur Storey park, but it's almost like a miniature Buffalo Bayou with the plenty of watering holes that you can go fishing, but it's catch and release. The walking trails are a bit of a labyrinth with it's different directions. I'm sure you can burn off all the calories your heart desires. There aren't any physical benches, but use your imagination; sit on a rock along the water bank and watch the ducks, but don't allow your children to taunt the innocent creatures. I like how the trails aren't linear slope, but some of the paths are a bit steep, but not too much. Easy level of walking across the board. The parking situation is a bit awkward with two lots that near the curve, but there's a full parking lot that can hold a few vehicles. There aren't many shaded areas so bring plenty of water and wear sun blocking clothing if you have sensitive skin in this Texas heat bath!

Our Texas friends had taken us here for a day trip on a Memorial weekend during Covid, and they didn't even know the name of the beach we were at. Actually, arriving at the beach was an adventure in itself. After exploring the Galveston area, we waited for the rest of the group to arrive. The friend we were with decided against driving her vehicle onto the beach. It had rained a lot the previous night, and there were a bunch of pools of water along the beach. We spotted many sedans and suvs getting stuck in the wet sand. Highly recommend driving your 4 wheel drive truck. One of my wife's friends had a Toyota 4 Runner so they made a couple of trips to pick us all up, and take us to the spot on the beach where they had set up our picnic. The ride through all the water, and through all the sand to get to our destination was a fun and rough one! Cool off-road experience!! There were a bunch of folks parked in their vehicles along the water line. Everyone set up for a good time. Vendors selling kites and balloons. There was even an ice cream truck roaming the beach selling ice cream. Very cool seeing families and friends hanging out and having a good time. There are no bathrooms at the beach. Fortunately, one of our friends had brought a pop up pod. One of those useful pop up tents that you can set up to use as a toilet among other things. Do your business inside, and have complete privacy. Beach was beautiful. Water was fine. Sunset was gorgeous. Terrific day trip with amazing friends we had at this beach (whatever the name was).

This public park is ringed by a 4 foot perimeter fence with plenty of green space inside to run around in. During breaks in my meetings, it was nice to walk around and see what's here. As far back as 1816, there were earthworks and emplacements here. It became Fort Travis in the late 1890s as a result of the US government building it out through WWI and WWII. Concrete gun batteries still exist though the guns are of course long gone. It was acquired by Galveston County and is now a lovely park with walking trails, interpretive markers and other facilities. I'm not sure about playing ball here as the wind was quite intense. The water was brown, as usual, but the weather was actually quite nice. We arrived around 5 pm, which made a big difference since it wasn't nearly as hot. There were still plenty of people enjoying the beach from playing in the water, swimming, and relaxing. Overall, it was a nice little escape from Houston. I just wish there were actual restroom facilities nearby. If you're going to have a beach this close to Houston, having accessible bathrooms would make the experience so much better!

Unlike the noisy, scalding, and car-dominated pavement on Seawall that most of Galveston beaches border, access 1C only touches grass, sand, and water.
