As I was searching up info on Crystal Caves for a similarly named national park, I happened upon…read morethis one. The day I paid a visit it had just rained a bit in the afternoon then cleared out for the rest of the evening. Up above this hillcrest on any given day I suspect would be ideal for watching the sunset or perhaps flying a kite. There was a consistent light breeze which felt refreshing, free from the congested traffic down below. Among the offerings include a baseball field, a modern jungle gym, basketball courts, and tennis courts. Specifically, tennis takes priority over pickleball. Further up the hill there's a small Japanese garden with a gazebo which while a bit worn out has a lot of charm. Street parking was plentiful and it never got really crowded. One thing I noticed was that my mobile network became somewhat spotty, but 'tis a minor inconvenience. If I'm free, I'd love to visit more often.

Parking can be found along McPherrin or other surrounding streets if you can't find parking. Entertainment: The city usually hosts a decent amount of festivities for the community at this park. Current Events: From May 7 - 10, they're celebrating cinco de mayo (5/7/2026 :5pm to 10pm and Monterey Parks birthday (5/7/2026 to 5/10/2026). Barnes Park Offerings: 1) Pickleball Courts (6) /Tennis (1): 2 month's ago they repaved and installed permanent pickleball nets. There's only one tennis court now... haha Pickleball is taking over! Pickleball courts are closed starting 5/4/2026 to 5/12/2026. Will reopen on 5/13/2026. 2) Baseball/Softball Field 3) Community Center 4) Gymnasium: Indoor basketball and pickleball courts (7pm - 10pm) 5) Restrooms: They're available. Not really clean though. 6) Teqball table: Don't see people use this table to play. I guess I'll watch this on youtube for now. Hopefully, one day.... I'll be able to see this sport in real life. Barnes For Thought: Overall, it's a nice park. Pretty cool that they had enough funding to install permanent pickleball courts. Perhaps the next thing they can fix up is the restrooms.

It has always been a well-maintained park with plenty of offerings, although the pool is currently closed. Plenty of parking in their lot (on the south side) or surrounding streets although parking can get tough when there are major events.

It's got that whole sloped setup, so you can climb up, pretend you're earning your post-snack calories, and then chill at the top like you've conquered something. The view's nice, especially if you're holding a boba or street tacos like a true Monterey Park foodie!! At night though? That's when it redeems itself. The lights come on, everything glows, and suddenly it's giving romantic picnic energ even if the waterfall is still ghosting you.

More of, we live in the neighborhood and are so lucky to have this park, type of spot. No playground or even a lot of grass to frolic on. There is parking though if you do want to venture for a little scenic outdoor dining like I did. That being said, it's gorgeous! I could see this being a great spot to take photos or just enjoy a book on one of the benches. There are also some stairs so you could get some steps in if you took a few loops around. There's covered tables I believe you have to reserve. I've come here at night before and there are above lights that keep it well lit. Parking towards the end of the day can be limited because the park is surrounded by homes. It doesn't look like the nicest neighborhood but this little park is so sweet. Don't be surprised to find many residents of the community doing dances and stretches and exercise in the morning. Many older women come in groups and go in walks. And there are people that come and use the smaller basketball court. The playground for the children is also well maintained. I've never used the restroom at that oark but there is one located right in the middle.

I decided the next time I go for a run, I'll stop by to check it out. Parking: There's a decent amount of parking available and is shared with the Community and Senior Center. Environment: Once you park, head up the stairs and you'll see the restrooms to your right and the splash pad to the left. There's also picnic shelters, tables, BBQ grills, and the play area. Not too far away, you'll see the sports field. Due to the drought, the water feature was currently closed. There's also a set of stairs on the East side of the park that leads you down to Orange St. Yay/Nay/Meh: Yay. Overall, it's a pretty decent park to spend time at. The picnic shelters are nice and kids will have plenty of things to do there.

They also have open fields where you can play catch or have a picnic. They have some pave roads where kids can bike, scooter or rollerskate. They also have tennis courts on the side of the park and they also have lessons for those who were interested. Unfortunately, they recently implemented charging non residents during the weekends. I don't support this charge since public parks should be for everyone. Whether or not you are living in the city. Other than that come to visit during the weekdays when it's free!

Big beautiful park with lots to do and plenty of parking…read more There's basketball courts, running track, exercise stations, tennis courts, softball field, tons of space, a l lake with ducks and turtles and more. My family enjoys the picnic tables here. Recently we reserved several tables by the lake which under covering or pavilion. It's $165 for residents and we had it from 10AM to 4PM. We had a 6 year old birthday party with about 15 families in attendance. It was great! The kids LOVED the ducks, turtles, and play ground. It was nice to have tables and shade. Plenty of trash cans to throw away our trash. And plenty of parking for everyone. We all enjoyed it!
