Then step inside where you find a very comfortable living room and the most beautiful stone fireplace I have ever seen! Most of the rooms have beautiful scenic views of the lake. I have a question though, is there such a thing as a million thread count sheet or pillow case? Because I think this place has them, I have bad shoulders and this was the best sleep I had in years!! That's why I was able to get up early and watch the sunrise and enjoy an excellent breakfast on the porch prepared by the owner himself, thanks Al! Last but definitely not least Al's wife Pamela is just the nicest person, making everyone feel as relaxed as if you were in your own home, she is full of ideas for all your local needs from dining to local recreation. This is a thoroughly updated establishment in which the details have been sweated out. In the two story great room, there is a healthy selection of good movies, lots of reading materials, games, and many good areas to hang out. Sondra, the proprietor, was a very gracious and generous host and a fabulous cook. It sounds like her menu changes, but for breakfast we had a strawberry, dark and white chocolate cobbler, an egg and ricotta omelet with fresh vegetables, home fries, cinnamon rolls, and bacon. The cobbler was even better than it sounds, the home fries were savory, the omelet was made with fresh eggs from the on-premises hens, and the bacon was crispy and not greasy. Finally, I would be remiss if I neglected to mention the setting. The view of the lake combined with the White Mountain range is so tranquil in the winter. The panoramic picture I posted of the sunset there doesn't do it justice. The way the entire building is situated on the lot and the way the decks open out onto the landscape is just wonderful and unique. One last note - if you like to watch TV, there is a huge menu of available cable channels, and if you use the Internet a lot, the Wifi is very high speed and works outdoors as well. However, your time would be wasted - your head should be pointed at the view and/or the food and not the screen!

The breakfast was fantastic, consisting of french toast that was to die for with asparagus and farm fresh eggs. The bed was equally as good, with a private bathroom and a nice little room warmer in the corner. The inn itself has the absolute best view of the surrounding lakes area that I have ever seen. The inside is beautifully decorated and has books and games galore. Sondra keeps it immaculate and makes you feel welcome, but the best part was her canine companion (Bernie?), a gorgeous male Burnese Mountain Dog who was friendly as could be. We first stayed here in May 2019 on the night my husband and I got engaged. We got engaged at the top of a multi-pitch rock climbing route in Rumney. Our families live far away, so we actually FaceTimed them from this Inn to share the news of our engagement with them. We went to The Last Chair next door for a celebratory dinner then had a lovely night at this Inn to enjoy our first night as an engaged couple. We came back to the Northeast last week for a wedding and spent a couple of days up in NH to do some hiking in the White Mountains. Now that it has been 5 years since our engagement, we thought it would be fun to stay here again to reminisce! We remembered Kevin right away--he is the most friendly and generous host. He makes you feel so welcome like you are family as soon as you arrive. We probably spent a couple hours talking with Kevin throughout our stay, he is just so wholesome and kind. He puts a lot of effort into adding special touches around the Inn to make it extra charming. Afternoon wine/cheese, a fridge filled with beer and waters, a coffee/tea station, freshly clipped roses in every room, chocolates and a cute quote on the bed, a guestbook to sign in your room, robes to wear. Not to mention the gourmet breakfast he makes for you in the morning! Ours was a fruit starter followed by homemade vanilla bean belgian waffles with hand carved local smoked bacon. There's also a hot tub outside that you can use. We came on a weeknight when the Inn wasn't very busy, so Kevin upgraded our room for free! We had such a lovely time here and really enjoyed coming back 5 years later. This place sets the bar high for a Bed & Breakfast--you get all the history (from the building to the stories of those who have lived there), beautiful grounds, a host with tremendous hospitality, and so many little things that add up to make this an unforgettable place to stay. Well, that's because hospitality at this fabulous inn does not extend solely to guests, but also to visitors, even the kind who pop in unannounced. My mother-in-law spent many summers in Meredith as a child in the 1960's! Her great aunt owned the house at the time. She told us stories of running around the wrap-around porch and falling down the stairs and breaking a toe (). Darryl took time to welcome us and allow us a tour as well as time to relive her memories. The beautiful wrap around porch still exists, now with an incredible porch added to enjoy the incredible view. The inn is absolutely beautiful. Darryl then went so far as to offer us WONDERFUL pumpkin muffins made that morning and they were DELICIOUS! This was our first visit to Meredith-- we were in town for a wedding. We called and spoke with Samantha, who answers their phone, but she could not give us any reason, whether another room was open, or who to speak to about this. For all the reasons you see on the website: the impeccable cleanliness, comfort and loveliness of the guest rooms, the elegance and style of the house and its history; the dedication to the comfort and pleasure of the guests, the homemade breakfasts, the location, the relaxed but elegant and welcoming vibe. But most of all, for us, what distinguishes The Mulburn Inn are the hosts, Dave and Karen. Dave had me at "Hello." I called to say we would be late, and he was simply wonderful; we were headed to theater up the road apiece and Dave was relaxed and kind and completely accommodating. Later we discovered Karen and Dave have set up their screened-in porch for their guests, with clean-burning propane fire tables filled with amber fire glass. Despite the chilly North Country climes, we were wonderfully warm. But if we needed more, they also had outdoor heat lamps, enabling us to spend hours hanging outside. It is bliss. Best of all? Dave and Karen hung out on the porch with us. I have never laughed so hard as I did at Dave's expert, hilarious storytelling. (Karen is the perfect foil, filling in the blanks with actual facts when needed.) And if you are really lucky, you will catch a glimpse of their two elderly Dachshunds who are the sweetest. Plus, if you are curious about the fascinating, star-studded history of The Mulburn Inn (formerly The Ivie Estate), just ask, and Dave will regale you with the best stories of its history! Karen's décor with the perfect style of country and cool top off the experience, as do the snacks they put out for night owls like my husband and me. There's much more to tell, but I'm trying to keep this shorter than novel length. We loved it so much, we made reservations to return 8 weeks later! The "inn" is their home and you rent rooms in their home. That may be fine for some people but not…read moreothers, including myself. The caretakers live in the basement of the property. They will ask you all kinds of questions during your "stay". I specifically told them, because they are always around in their kitchen and living room, I was leaving my dog in my room while I went on a hike. They said they wanted to get him out and that it was OK for him to run around. Well, he is a small, delicate and rambunctious chihuahua that can easily, accidentally get hurt and I told them I wanted him left in my room. When I came back from my hike I discovered the owners had gone into my room as the door between the bathroom and room was left open (I had left with it closed) and the rugs were shifted. And my dog was not in the quarantined space I had created for him to be in while I was out of the room. How do I know what happened to him? The owners treat this inn as their home because that's what it is and apparently they will do whatever they want. At real hotels you can hang a Do Not Disturb sign on the door and not worry. If this place had signs to hang they would say We Will Enter Your Room Without Permission Even When You Ask Us Not To Because This Is Our Personal Home. According to New Hampshire law they should be making it clear that they live there prior to making a reservation so this needs to be reported. In response to Sheila- your comments to your negative reviews give insight into your character. If you truly do care about customer satisfaction you would make it clear on your website that you are renting out rooms in a home. That would ensure the comfort of all of your guests.

The bed and breakfast has everything you could ask for. I came in with low blood sugar and they jumped to get me some juice and help me out. The breakfasts were delicious and Sheila even prepared a special Indian dish that had a low glycemic index because she knew we like ethnic food and that I am a diabetic. If you want a cold corporate experience this is not for you, if you want to become a part of a family I encourage you to stay at the Coppertoppe Inn.
