Definitely, definitely, definitely recommend! I know there are a plethora of places to go fishing in Henry's Fork, as well as guides who can show you the ropes but for a novice and a few amateurs Henry's Fork Anglers know their stuff. We had two guides on a four day fishing tour and each day was a different experience. We were pairs with a new guide every day and they all really knew their stuff. The area, weather wise made each day different but each guide made the best of it. I would say, overall the pro shop was well kept and clean and full of different items for purchase but getting down to the nitty gritty for fishing, exploring the areas best spots and each guide knowing their way around the area and really giving us the gold standard for treatment, I really felt it was a place I would want to return time and time again. Even if you just want to get a1-2 or4-5 day trip in, you can't beat Henry's Fork Anglers guided tour. read more

The weather was the worst ever. Our Guide, Pierce was the BEST guide we have had at Henry's Fork. He worked hard to help us "hunt" for risers and then took it to striking distance by walking the boat. Even with wild winds, we were able to get close to big fish and see a lot of action because our guide knew what he was doing. The first question he asked us was how long we had been fly fishing and what we wanted to do. Then he delivered. He was very enthusiastic and knew how to fish in the conditions that we were dealt. I have been fly fishing for 20 years. With what I learned from Pierce, the next day on the ranch I was able to get seven (7) large fish in one hour. That is the best I have ever done on Herriman Ranch. Next year when we come back, I will ask for Pierce. The attached photo is one that I took of my fishing partner and Pierce. I was disappointed with the guide trip. the guide was very good, but no call the day prior meant showing up at the shop at 8 am hoping the guide would be there. I had no clue about what to bring or what to expect for the day. When I asked if I needed to bring rods, I was told "yes, if you want to fish" since the guide had no rods with him or rigged up for the day. I was also told that we were required to buy flies or tippet needed for the day prior to heading out. I did get to keep all 12 flies including the unused ones. $700 for a guide trip and I have to bring my own gear and buy at least 12 flies that I may need. Fished with the slide inn the next day on the Madison. The guide called, asked if we wanted to go early for a better bite, got there, guide had rods rigged and all flies were covered. My hubby would say this is the best part of his vacation. He loves fishing. I am not into fishing, but also had an amazing time. Our guide, Jay, taught me so well what to do, I caught multiple fish (and rocks, but that was all me learning). When I got stuck, Jay got me unstuck. When I wanted to just rest and let the hubby fish, Jay chatted with me and made me laugh. Our friends had Shawn as their guide, and thought he was the best (I still say Jay is the best). Both were knowledgeable and funny, and we all had a wonderful lunch together. Speaking of lunches...the included lunch was SO good. The float down the river was gorgeous! The price was worth every penny. Small note to help everyone. If you love your adventure, be prepared to tip 20%. These guys work SO hard to make the clients happy. read more

We had a great day fishing with Hootie from Henry's Fork Anglers. I'd highly recommend them and we are planning to fish with them more this season. We weren't planning to fish with them, but my wife's birthday was coming up and while we were in the shop buying licenses, we overheard some folks talking about the great float trip they had. We shared a quick look, which lead to the question "do you have a guide available on Friday?" We met Hootie on Friday morning and he took care of everything. He helped us make a good decision on where to fish, fly selection, leader & tippit, lunch - and we were on our way. Great conversation on the way, and during the float, we felt like we were fishing with a friend. Being her birthday, most of his concentration was on helping her get the birthday fish. 20 inch rainbow, taken on a dry fly, fit the bill. When we needed help, he was there. When we were doing fine, he was rowing the boat to the productive areas. Its been two weeks since the trip. She is still talking about it to any and all who will listen. read more

I recently spent 4 days with different guides from Henrys Fork Anglers. The guides are great! The fly scam is not so great. Here's how it works: you sign a piece of paper that says the average angler needs between 12 and 18 flys per day. Your guide grabs an assortment of flys and additional line. The flys and line are not included in the guide price. At the end of your day you are given the remaining flys and line. The next day your guide will ask you if you have any flys from the day before. So you give him the flys and he swaps them out for flys that they feel will work depending on where you are fishing. Then they bill you for all the flys your guide just grabbed. However they don't subtract the flys you turned in from your bill. So over the four days of guiding I was will billed for 80 nymphs and various dry flys. I figure I lost about 5 or 6 per day. At the end of my tip I had 10 nymphs. When I add it up I was scammed out of a minimum of $150. Just looking at my bill they want their guides to run your bill up $75 per day on top of the guide fees. One day I was billed for 33 nymphs and $33 dollars in line. My suggestion is to fish with a different guide service. This place is owned by the one of the Rockefellers, Mike Lawson is the face of the scam, but sold it about 5 years ago. Well they may have gained $150 by scamming me, but they won't be getting my $2200 in guides fees ever again. And they don't deserve to get yours. read more

Fairly large, well-stocked shop. The associate I dealt with had only worked there a few months and his recommendations were vague and ultimately useless. Fly prices are a tad steep compared to other shops. The other clerk seemed preoccupied when I tried to get some intel on the local water. Unfortunately you will get charged for the following at the end of your trip: 2 spools of tippet that you may never use again Leaders 12 flies that you may only use 4 of It seems to be a way of gaining more shop income and it feels like a nickle and dime finish when you are paying premium prices for the experience. read more

I fished four days with this outfitter July 19 to 22, 2015. The experience was unbelievably below my expectations. For example when I requested to fish specific waters, they said no that river is not fishing well. Yet the river they selected for me was being flushed with a dam release and the fishing was poor. They offer many different bodies of water to fish on their website yet they our unwilling to be truthful with there customers on many levels. I spoke with other customers staying at the same lodge as I and they all had similar experiences with Henry's Fork Anglers. The guides fished the same spots primarily with each new customer regardless of the quality of the fishing currently. At the end of my trip as I settled up with Henry's Fork Anglers Fly shop they charged me 350.00 dollars for fishing tackle they said I had used in four days fishing with them. Since we lost very little tackle and didn't change out our fishing techniques or flies more than a few times, this amount of tackle was outrageous. We didn't even receive back all the used and/or unused tackle they had us purchase. I trusted the guides to purchase only for us what we would need for tackle along with the tippet and leaders, flies I had brought with me. When I asked for a receipt I was told they would e-mail me one later another lack of transparency with their customer service. When I initially complained to Chris Lawson the fly shop manager he told me I wasn't being a friend of the fly shop! Chris's whole approach to customer service was defensive. After many emails Chris reluctantly refunded me the cost of selected flies I had returned and that he deemed unused. This is a very unethical business; watch out for them! read more

Horrible customer service, horrible selection of fly tying material and a building that is 5 times bigger than what they need. Shop around the area when looking for services in the area. The weather conditions were brutal on July 11, 39 degrees, rain/snow mix and heavy wind, but the guide, Smitty went the "extra mile" to make it a successful float trip on the Henry's Fork. Mike Lawson has put together a great team of guides, some of which have worked there most of their adult lives. They are very knowledgable, professional and fair in what you need to know. How many guides do you know who will get out of the boat and hold you in a good fishing spot? The fly shop is amazing, everything is "top shelf" and the staff is very friendly and helpful. You can't ask for a better experience for a float trip than this. read more

Went fishing with Henry's Fork Anglers for this first time, this Summer, after hearing so many good things about the shop. We fished two different rivers on two different days. Our guide (Paul Hoelscher) worked super hard at showing us a great time... and succeeded by leaps and bounds. We caught lots of fish, including lots of big fish. That's not because we're great anglers. (We're not.) Instead, Paul helped us with our skills and put us in the right spots at the right time. I took an all day fly fishing trip in September and it was clearly the best guided trip I've ever taken. I have been on the water with many a guide in a variety of states. However, this day was magical. I caught 30 trout and learned many new techniques from my very qualified guide. I would recommend this outfitter many times over and I would definitely use them again. We had a fantastic experience with our guide and the services provided by Henry's Fork Angler's. The staff in the shop were attentive, professional and made us feel like old friends rather than first time customers. Our guide Matt took us out for a float down the river. He was on top of everything, changing our flies and tippets as needed for every change the river brought and we both landed some good size trout. Even though we are both well seasoned angler's, we came away with a few new tips and new knowledge, which for me is the best part of guide service. The price for the float was very reasonable.
